Storm Clouds Ahead for the Village Midwife: A gorgeous romance to escape with

ABOUT THE BOOK

As the sun crests the indigo Lake District hills and blossom froths in the trees, midwife Zoe Padbury reaches for her boyfriend’s hand. Her life, at this moment, feels perfect. She has no idea of the storm clouds that lie ahead…

The villagers of Thimblebury know that midwife Zoe Padbury loves babies and now that she’s settled at Hilltop Farm with her boyfriend Alex, they can’t resist wondering when she’s going to start a family of her own. Yet it doesn’t feel like quite the right time. Alex is so busy and Zoe has her hands full with all her new mums to look after. Still, she has hopes for the future…

But what she doesn’t expect is to walk into her cosy kitchen and find Alex’s glamorous ex-girlfriend sitting at the scrubbed pine kitchen table. Virginia claims to be helping Alex with work but as she looks Zoe up and down and offers her a perfectly manicured hand to shake, Zoe can’t ignore a shiver of foreboding. What will this mean for her and Alex?

Zoe tries to quash the pangs of jealousy that wash over her, but with Virginia around what feels like all hours of the day, she and Alex end up in a devastating argument. And when she receives some news that changes everything, she doesn’t know if she can share her troubles… Can they find their way back to each other? Or will these storm clouds break their bond forever?

MY THOUGHTS

This is book four in The Village Midwife series. I’m really hoping it’ll continue after this one.
Zoe Padbury is getting settled into Hilltop Farm with her boyfriend Alex. She’s around babies all of the time but the couple can’t help wondering how it’d be with their own little one when the time is right. That time never seems to come, she’s busy all the time midwifing and he’s starting up a new business plus his daughter lives with them as well. They have plenty of time though, right?
When some concerning health problems keep popping up for Zoe, she’s scared and though she’s in the medical field she doesn’t want to seek a diagnosis but finally does with crushing results.
Everything seems well until the stress of the diagnosis, busy life and let’s not forget Alex’s ex is back in town again and they seem to be getting on a little too well for Zoe’s comfort.
Will the storm clouds roll away and sunny skies appear again? Or are things just too much for this couple to handle? Enjoying the series a lot.

MY THOUGHTS

This is the third book in the Skylarks series and my first read in it. Somehow, I missed the other books, but I definitely need to remedy that.
The Skylarks are an air ambulance rescue crew that gets the worst cases.
I live in a rural area right across the street from a large community field that is used quite often for the helicopter rescue ambulance, so I get a firsthand view of the first responders and their work.

Seeing the air ambulance and its workers you get a true respect for those first responders and are so thankful for the lives they save. Reading about them is a whole other thing. It takes these workers and brings them into your life in a personal way and it humanizes them as we realize they have time away from work and cares and worries just like all of us do.

The author writes with her usual creativity bringing to life the characters in a way that you feel as though you know them and are in their lives.
When a baby is dropped off at the Skylarks building and a worker finds it this causes her to have many emotions brought to the forefront again. Emotions she had tampered down and hidden deep within herself.

There is family drama, confronting emotions and beautiful haling within herself and in her family. Such a well plotted and beautiful story the author writes from the heart, and this is just the kind of story I love. Uplifting, this is my favorite type of book.

Blog tour and publication date post for debut author, Sarah Adler of Mrs Nash’s Ashes

About the Book

A Most Anticipated Book by Barnes & Noble ∙ BookRiot ∙ GoodReads ∙ Culturess ∙ and more!

A starry-eyed romantic, a cynical writer, and (the ashes of) an elderly woman take the road trip of a lifetime that just might upend everything they believe about true love.

Millicent Watts-Cohen is on a mission. When she promised her elderly best friend that she’d reunite her with the woman she fell in love with nearly eighty years ago, she never imagined that would mean traveling from D.C. to Key West with three tablespoons of Mrs. Nash’s remains in her backpack. But Millie’s determined to give her friend a symbolic happily-ever-after, before it’s (really) too late—and hopefully reassure herself of love’s lasting power in the process.

She just didn’t expect to have a living travel companion.

After a computer glitch grounds flights, Millie is forced to catch a ride with Hollis Hollenbeck, an also-stranded acquaintance from her ex’s MFA program. Hollis certainly does not believe in happily-ever-afters—symbolic or otherwise—and makes it quite clear that he can’t fathom Millie’s plan ending well for anyone.

But as they contend with peculiar bed-and-breakfasts, unusual small-town festivals, and deer with a death wish, Millie begins to suspect that her reluctant travel partner might enjoy her company more than he lets on. Because for someone who supposedly doesn’t share her views on romance, Hollis sure is becoming invested in the success of their journey. And the closer they get to their destination, the more Millie has to admit that maybe this trip isn’t just about Mrs. Nash’s love story after all—maybe it’s also about her own.

My Thoughts

Loved, loved, loved this book!
It’s fun, it’s funky and it’s fresh. If I hadn’t known this was a debut author, I would have never known by the writing because it’s absolutely brilliant!

Imagine going on a road trip, now imaging this road trip with a reluctant travel mate whose romantic notions don’t exactly match up with yours and the ashes of an elderly friend you are going to reunite with a special friend.

The characters…………….I liked her better than him in this rom com, but he grew on me and I got to liking him too. She is a former child tv star, used to people recognizing her, she can deal with the recognition as long as they’re not rude. He’s a struggling writer who won’t share his manuscript with her, he also tries to keep up a grumpy front and this is where he grew on me, he becomes more likable as he starts to like more of the things she does and becomes more agreeable to things.

A discovered secret leads to a big blow up, will this relationship recover in time? Mrs. Nash’s ashes take quite the cross-country trip with these two, if only they could hear the conversations being had!

Sweet, sexy, romantic, heartwarming and may just make you shed a tear or two.
Have I said already that I loved it? I can’t wait to see what’s up next for this author. You’re going to love this awesome and fun relaxation summery beach read book.
