A Wish for Christmas

360 pages Avon publisher November 14, 2023 publication date

ABOUT THE BOOK

In this heartwarming story from New York Times bestselling author Courtney Cole, an unhappily married couple makes a wish on an enchanted snow globe that they had never met, but when they wake up the next day in separate lives, the magic of Christmas helps them to realize that some love is just meant to be.

Two weeks ’til Christmas…

Noel Blake is not in a great place. After several years of marriage, she and her husband Jonah are quietly drifting apart. The only time they really talk at all anymore is when they walk their dog, Elliott. And even then it usually ends in bickering.

When, one snowy day, Elliott manages to slip his leash, they find him blocks away in the care of a mysterious old man who asks them to make a wish on an old snow globe. Eager to get their dog safely home, they agree to his strange request. Neither one realizes that the wish they’re about to make will change the course of their lives… possibly forever.

When Noel and Jonah wake up the next morning, they’re in separate beds, separate apartments, separate lives. But are they any happier? As they live the existences they’d always wished for, both feel that something very important is missing. And when a chance encounter brings the pair back together, they find they have a spark of something very special.

Will they be able to find their way back to each other before it’s too late, or does the Christmas Magic have another fate in store?

MY THOUGHTS

This is a very magical Christmas story. I’ve never seen a book with this premise before.
A married couple who used to be so in love who have lost the shine in their marriage are walking their Mastiff one evening. Unable to control him the leash slips out of her hands, and he runs off through the busy streets into an elderly man’s Curiosity Shop, full of odds and ends you’ll find it all here.

The man gives them a magical snow globe and they make a wish to have never met.
Waking up the next day single, each has their own life and jobs they are proud of, and they don’t know each other.

A work-related task and an elderly parent both call them home for the holidays and they happen to both coincidently be going to the same town. We follow them on their day-to-day life as they get a second chance at writing wrongs and falling in love all over again.

That old snow globe may have just sprinkled a little holiday magic in the air for this couple. Sweet second chance romance in a charming small town.

First Line Friday

Happy Friday & welcome to First Line Friday hosted at Reading is my Superpower! It’s time to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line. Today I’m delighted to feature A Corpse Among the Carolers by Debra Sennefelder a book published in November of this year. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to read it soon.

276 pages November 12, 2024 Beyond the Page Publishing

First Line

Food Blogger Hope Early always gets a hearty holiday laugh knowing that the weeks leading up to Christmas are as frantic as they are festive.

Would you want to continue on with reading this? I probably would just based on the adorable cover alone. You’ve got to love Beagles.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hope Early is fully immersed in the spirit of the Christmas season, until the sounds of joyful carolers are silenced by the words “Ho-ho-homicide” . . .

Food blogger Hope Early always gets a hearty holiday laugh from knowing that the weeks leading up to Christmas are as frantic as they are festive. But in spite of everything she has to do, the one thing she always has time for is the annual Jingle Bell Stroll, a night when the community gathers to sing their hearts out and enjoy each other’s company. This year’s caroling feels especially heartwarming, until the final note lands with a thud when Hope finds the body of the man who’d volunteered to play Santa, a knife plunged into his back.

With virtually the whole town present at the caroling, the list of suspects seems endless. It doesn’t take long, though, for both Hope and the police to turn a sharp eye on the victim’s bitter and vindictive ex-wife, along with his new wife, who may have been after his money. Then Hope unearths a clue that suggests the dead man may have been hiding a sordid past and connections to unseemly characters. But as she closes in on the killer, they’re determined to wring her neck before she can ring in the new year . . .

Includes tasty and toasty holiday recipes!

Waiting for Christmas

280 pages Tyndale Fiction publisher September 3, 2024 publish date

ABOUT THE BOOK

In this hope-filled Gilded Age Christmas novella from bestselling author Lynn Austin, the year is 1901 and the hustle and bustle of the holidays is descending on New York’s Fifth Avenue.

For the first time in her privileged life, Adelaide Forsythe won’t be swept up in it. She couldn’t be happier about the prospect of a quieter Christmas. That’s not to say her transition from Miss to Mrs. has been without challenge. Though she doesn’t regret marrying for love instead of wealth, she can barely light the hearth or cook more than burnt toast. She feels woefully unprepared to run her own household.

Then, on the first Sunday of Advent, winter winds bring change through two unlikely means: a young orphan boy, hiding near Adelaide’s front steps, and a seasoned housekeeper who seems too good to be true.

The boy, Jack, claims he isn’t an orphan at all and is desperate to reunite his family. Adelaide and her husband Howard work tirelessly to solve the riddle of Jack’s story, while Adelaide’s new endeavors open her eyes to a world beyond her past experience—and all the challenge and possibility it holds. As Christmas approaches, small glimmers of wonder light the way toward the answers Adaleide seeks and the most miraculous gift of all.

Includes discussion questions for book clubs

The novella length of this delightful work of Christmas fiction about the true meaning of Christmas makes this a great stocking stuffer or host/hostess gift

Beautiful hardcover, giftable size

Great companion to All My Secrets by Lynn Austin

MY THOUGHTS

While I do enjoy Christmas romance books, I do actually prefer feel good Christmas books of which this one is.

Taking place during the gilded age in 1901, newly married Adelaide Forsythe who grew up in the lap of luxury has had enough of it and just wants to be ordinary and live within her husband’s means. It hasn’t been easy though, growing up with cooks, nannies and maids has left her unable to do the simplest domestic chores but she’s willing to learn.

Coming home one evening hearing a rustling in her bushes she investigates and discovers a ragged street urchin about nine years old. Bringing him in out of the cold he’s cared for.

Now I fell in love with this little boy, though he did have some problems adapting to a new way of life and insecurities plagued him. Though this is novella length it is a beautifully, pull on your heartstring filled story.

A child looking for the rest of his family and can’t rest easily until he does. It’s almost Christmas, will his Christmas hopes be fulfilled or will disappointment once again fill his life?

Poignant read, one that will be remembered for a long time.
Recommended highly!

MY THOUGHTS

I’ll admit it this author is an automatic read for me. Why you may ask. Because of the author’s humor and situations where people actually do what you would want to do in the same situation but don’t dare to. In other words, I love this feel-good relaxation book packed with laugh out loud moments and have more than once nodded my head yes to certain situations.

A nice and relaxing Christmas holiday was what Joy was expecting as she waited for her daughter and her family to arrive for the holiday. She had been eagerly expecting her daughter, daughter’s husband and two grandchildren vesting. Instead, she got her daughter arriving without her husband and in tears and the children sullen and rude.

A divorce is in the works for her daughter and she’s hitting the bottle hard. Her son arriving with his family will surely work out better. When the siblings are together, they seem to be fighting worse than the children.
Where’s this relaxing holiday with family?
When her sister suggests she visits her in France we see the real Joy come to life again.

While her family seems to be in shock that she’s left them she comes to realize there’s more to life than being at their beck and call. While sister Isobel beats to her own drum she gets Joy to open up and live life a little again. The experiences are marvelous and not at all what she was expecting but will she want to go back home again?

The book left me smiling and happy. Quirky characters, fast paced, and I loved the dialogue amongst the characters. I’d sum this up and sunny and delightful!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.

Publication Day Push: The Duchess Hotel. Book 1 Santa Maybe

ABOUT THE BOOK

Santa Maybe

Have yourself a merry little fauxmance—with a dashing Santa who just might make it real.

Rosie Gonzalez isn’t having a wonderful Christmas time. Not when she’s at risk of losing her job as assistant manager of the Duchess—Victoria’s oldest boutique hotel. If she and her team can’t bring in more guests by the end of December, she’ll be let go. Adding to her stress is a calendar filled with family gatherings where her mom will inevitably nag her for still being single.

Drew Richardson isn’t faring much better. As if working alongside his ex at Northlife Fitness wasn’t bad enough, now she’s invited him to her December wedding. And since all his coworkers will be there, bailing isn’t an option. To get through it, he’ll need a plus-one for moral support.

So, when Rosie recruits him to play Santa for her hotel’s activities, he also proposes a fake-dating scheme to benefit them both. Just for the holidays—nothing more. But as things between them turn from nice to naughty, they’ll have to decide whether a real relationship could be the best Christmas gift of all.

MY THOUGHTS

Who would have thought a book taking place in a hotel could be so entertaining. Now this is what a Christmas book should be.
I loved the mmc, he’s humorous, entertaining, hot, generous, to sum it up, just about the perfect guy but with enough faults to be likable. Not to mention he loves children and is a volunteer Santa for them.

The Duchess Hotel is in Victoria, the provincial capital of British Columbia. It’s located on the West Coast of Canada.
Though not an actual hotel the descriptions of this old past its prime boutique hotel makes me think of it in its former grand days with all its elegance.

Rosie works there and has been there for quite a while, frankly she enjoys her job and works hard at it. With a new GM in she’s worried she and her coworkers will lose their job if hotel business doesn’t pick up drastically during this holiday season like it has at the competition, the Duke Hotel.
The holidays are something she’s starting to dread; all the family plans she must be present for, and her family is expecting her to bring a boyfriend.

A former love interest comes to the rescue, he needs a plus one for a wedding and she needs a few dates for holiday family gatherings. I love this couple, Rosie and Drew. Let the fake dating begin.

This rom com kept me in stitches, their interactions with each other was great and the other characters were just as entertaining. I loved seeing the plan they came up with to save the hotel. The book was so festive, it really had Christmas written all over it.

Hot chocolates, children’s crafts, holiday breakfast, beautiful decorations, cookies, I mean they thought of everything, and it makes the book so festively warm and welcoming.

What’s going to happen when the holidays are over, and the fake dating can end? Can they just go back to the way things were?
Fully supportive family and friends make this a holiday read you’ll be sure to read more than once.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series and it has a Fall theme.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

Blog Blitz for The Little Christmas Library by David M. Barnett

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Little Christmas Library: A warm and cosy romance to curl up with this festive season

Molly McGinley has had enough of London and, feeling like a failure, heads home to the unremarkable Northern town of Merry-le-Moors, to move back in with dad Jack for Christmas.

Jack, still mourning the loss of his wife and Molly’s mum ten years ago, nevertheless maintains a positive outlook on life, and to lift Molly from her slump insists she goes out with him on his daily rounds driving the town’s mobile library.

When an elderly man, Cliff, starts coming into the library for warmth and companionship, Jack and Molly provide tea and sympathy… and begin to attract the lost, lonely and jaded people of Merry-le-Moors, who gather each day at the mobile library to talk about books, life and love. Each of them is searching for something in life, and Jack and Molly know just how to find it in the library.

As friendships – and more – begin to form, Christmas approaches… and so does a dark cloud on the horizon. The library is under threat, and so too the fragile friendships that have been formed.

But this is Christmas, after all, and magic – like love – can be found in the most unlikely places.

Available now

MY THOUGHTS

Reading this brings all the memories of my childhood back. I was introduced to libraries at a very young age and still love to go to them today.
One of the libraries I went to was a mobile library just like in The Little Christmas Library, it was called a bookmobile, and we still have them here in the rural area where I lived. Oh, the nostalgia has a lot to do with helping people connect with certain books. This was such a lovely read set at Christmas time. I felt right at home amongst the shelves of books on the bus.
Jack, the bus librarian loves suggesting books from the shelves for patrons though he may not always know what a book is about to make the best suggestion his heart is still in the right place. I enjoyed Jack’s character.
His daughter Molly moves back home to Merry-le-Moors after a relationship breakup for Christmas. Molly soon finds herself going with her father on his daily mobile library bus runs. These runs are beneficial not only to Molly and her father but the companionship they bring to some down on their luck folks whose spirits are lifted in friendship by daily talks about books and life in general. When there is a threat to the continuation of the library itself will this holiday spirit ring true for these folks who need it so much? Just lovely, I enjoyed the book so much.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

MY THOUGHTS

Do you have favorite places you enjoy traveling to? So do I but I also have favorite places I love traveling to through the books that I have to always read the latest when it releases. As I real I feel as though I’m on a grand vacation visiting the characters who are best friends with me.

I’m always so excited to see when Christmas books start releasing every year as they are one of my favorite types to read and this one is full of holiday spirit.

I love the author’s books and her writing style and was so happy to be back in the world of Polkerran Point. We meet a few new characters this time around, one of them being Gemma. An accident has her spending the holidays in Polkerran Point and taking a job with boyband member, Matt as his housekeeper.

Now we have a grumpy meets sunshine here, Matt being the grumpy one here. Gemma takes a dislike to Matt, and I’ll say he didn’t really have a lot to recommend himself with at first. After all, how far do good looks go if you don’t have the personality to back it up.

I loved watching Gemma and Matt’s relationship grow and evolve as they came to understand each other and start getting on better with each other. A slow burn romance that you’ll love snuggling in with while getting lost in it.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

435 pages Barbour Fiction publisher September 1, 2023 publication date

ABOUT THE BOOK

A Rare Snowfall Leads to a Christmas to Remember

Three heartwarming, interconnected stories of faith, love, and restoration, brought to you by three Louisiana-native authors. Will a rare snowy Louisiana Christmas bring restoration and hope to the hometown and hearts of three women from the town’s founding family?

In A Louisiana Snow by Morgan Tarpley Smith, meet Mattie: A passionate visionary who learns to forgive and finds love in unexpected places…

In Restoring Christmas by Betsy St. Amant, meet Jolene: An artist and prodigal daughter who discovers love exists in the very place she once called home…

In A Christmas Reunion by Lenora Worth, meet Adale: A beautiful widow who finally dares to love again…

And don’t forget Granny, whose feisty spirit, blunt dialogue, and quirky ways play an important and endearing role.

MY THOUGHTS

I enjoy reading novellas and this is a lovely Christmas one. Each story builds off of the previous one and when one ends the next seamlessly starts as we find a generational thing going with strong and faithful women from the same Louisiana town.

We don’t usually connect snow and Louisiana but this season with a little holiday magic and a generous helping from the unexpected snowstorm forgiveness, romance and coming together again of a special family may just be happening.

Blog Tour for Christmas at the Board Game Cafe by Jennifer Page

ABOUT THE BOOK

With the holiday season fast approaching, and the town desperate to attract more visitors, Kate conceives a brilliant plan: an enchanting living Advent calendar. But Kate’s picture-perfect plans take an unexpected turn when her ex-boyfriend arrives in Yorkshire, insisting on creating the Christmas Eve display. Can Kate trust him to deliver a show-stopping window? And can she finally put the past behind her and embrace the future she’s always dreamed of?

MY THOUGHTS

WOW! How is it even possible the author has four books out already in the Little Board Game Cafe series? I’ve read and loved every single one of them.

This one is Kate’s story, and I think it’s my favorite, but I probably said that about all of them because I loved them all. I think it’s the most emotional of the series but not in a bad way. There are so many things going on and I don’t think this is a spoiler, but the book has a lovely happy ending.

I still wish there was a board game cafe near me in the states, it’s sounds like such a fun way to spend some hours. I love the characters that we got to visit from previous books and meeting new characters was a blast too.
Kate has been friends with the board game cafe owner since early school days and now that winter is here business is not only slowing down in the cafe but around town in general.

With dark approaching earlier there just doesn’t seem to be the draw from the business there was in the summer. Marketing guru Kate overhears her friend lamenting about lack of business during this cold and dreary time and knows she has to do something to jump start business for the cafe but also around town. The plan she comes up with is genius and in such a short amount of time.

A lot of the time is spent talking about this plan and its marvelous final results and I loved every minute of it.
I was so glad to see Kate had cleared up a big misunderstanding she had with her father, and it has brought their relationship closer.

There is also a possibility of a romance brewing for Kate with two very different personality types. There were some laugh out loud moments in the book and some awww moments too.

I also enjoyed learning about some Polish Christmas traditions too and even looked up a few more to learn more about it.
A very well received book, I enjoyed it so much!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.
