MY THOUGHTS
Anne Blackburne is still a fairly new to me author as this is only the second book, I’ve read of hers. This is a sweet clean Amish romance.
Mary Yoder was injured in a buggy accident as a child and her father passed away in this accident. Despite having many surgeries, she still has limited mobility. Recovery from the surgeries takes a long time and despite the surgeries she still has a lot of pain.
She helps out on her family’s farm by raising specialty chickens and weaving baskets. Longing to be like the other women in her community and marry and have children she dares not to think about it too long, surely no one will want her as she is. As she and a Mennonite doctor in her community who’s taken over the retiring doctor’s office spend time together, she dares to dream of a future as a woman in love.
Dare she dream of better mobility when the doctor suggests a new surgical method that may improve her legs? Mary really has a lot of pros and cons to weigh and so many decisions to make. With the help of her mother and the community she’ll do what she feels is best for her.
This was a sweet and emotional book where Mary’s character just comes alive under the encouragement of the new doctor as we find he is interested in her for herself and not as a patient. An upbeat and uplifting story.

Shelley Shepard Gray has so many series out, she just keeps turning them out. This is a good thing though. I haven’t read a book of hers I didn’t like or couldn’t relate to. She’s one of my favorite go to Amish writing authors. I’m not sure how many books will be in this series, but this is the start of the newest series publishing June 2024.
4 siblings are looking for their anchor in life. They have been raised by a former Amish father and Englisher mother. They have a close bond and the older have always looked out for the younger. These siblings haven’t had the best of upbringings and feel peace of mind when they visit their Old-Order grandparents in Ohio.
Will they find the serene happiness they are seeking when they all decide to move to their grandparent’s house and want to embrace their lifestyle and become Amish? Will this give them what they have been missing out on in life? Life never seems to go as we plan though, and curveballs can be expected at the most unexpected times. All their circumstances are different but yet the same in many ways. I enjoyed all the characters but wasn’t sure about the decisions they would make.
I have read this author’s books for many years and always enjoy them. This one ended on a cliff-hanger so I’m sure it’ll take us right into the next in the series.

MY THOUGHTS
Sycamore Circle is the second book in the Rumors in Ross County series. Shelley Shepard Gary is an author who is talented in writing multiple genres.
I enjoyed reading Bo and Joy’s story. They both do community service. She’s helping people better themselves as she’s serving as a literacy teacher. Bo is a counselor for transitioning ex-cons. He’s big, brawny has tattoos and is an ex-con she’s soft, sweet and kind to everyone.
You wouldn’t think there would be that connection there but there is. Both are learning to trust again and recovering from things in their past. Joy has an ex-husband, a daughter and a secret she’s been keeping from Bo.
Someone is stalking her and sending harassing messages to her. The story moves at a steady pace and escalates as we approach the end. This is not one of the author’s Amish books but there are Amish characters and the culture added to the book which I enjoyed.
A light faith message, we see no one can do it all but through him all things are possible. Positive and uplifting. I look forward to many more books by this author.

MY THOUGHTS
Matched and Married is the second book in the Amish Mail-Order Bride series by Kathleen Fuller. Before I read this book today, I hadn't read an Amish book of hers in several years. The past several years she has had a contemporary fiction series which I have been reading.
Margaret Yoder is a young Amish woman ready to settle down after a rather wild rumspringa, running around period the Amish do before deciding if they want to join the church. Her past won't stay in the past though, it shows up on her doorstep in the form of former Englisher friends who want her to continue the behavior she has put behind her. With three daughters and Maragret the last, her mother just wants her to get married. Everything Maragret does seems to be met with her mother's disapproval. Margaret has no intentions of getting married anytime soon though. Going to Birch Creek to visit family will be the perfect escape from old temptations and to appease her mother she'll pretend to look for a husband. Her aunt whom she is staying with understands her and enjoys her visit though she's not looking for a husband. Meeting a local in Birch Creek, Owen Bontrager while out foraging for herbs for the natural medicines she makes Margaret is pleased to find out he's not looking for a spouse either. Knowing that she won't be in Birch Creek long she tries hard to concentrate on being a strong Amish church member but the more she's around Own the more intriguing she finds him. He's smart and they have interesting conversations which draws them closer. Knowing her mother wants her to return home soon to find a suitable match will she be able to go home and just forget about Owen and the awakening her heart has had towards love?
I've always enjoyed this author's series and this one too, though I don't feel the mother should have been so domineering.

MY THOUGHTS
Murder of an Amish Bridegroom is the first book in An Amish Seamstress cozy mystery series. I've read quite a few Amish books by the author, but this is her first cozy mystery, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Overall, I thought the book was good, the characters were well developed, and I wasn't able to guess who did it before it was revealed. I liked the fact that it took place in the state I live in, that's kinda neat. There were a lot of characters in the book which did make it a bit hard to keep track of who was who and what their purpose was. The dialogue was a bit simplistic at times and some of the conversations unbelievable. I'm not sure I would believe a police detective would allow a civilian to help with the case by letting our main character be as involved and questioning people as she did. Overall, a solid presentation that surprised me with the secrets revealed and I will continue the series, after all it is fiction so there will be some inconsistencies compared to what's realistic and what's not.

MY THOUGHTS
Kelly Irvin has written such a heartfelt book so full of emotions. Amish woman Abigail Bontrager has never felt she’s fit in with the other Amish in her community; a terrible baker and she can’t sew a straight stitch. Then she gets earth shattering news, she’s been adopted into her Amish family as a baby and her parents are English.
Mad at her adoptive parents, she’s confused and wants answers as to why they’ve never told her this information. Leaving her adoptive parents and Amish boyfriend she knows to be comfortable in life she must explore this English side of herself.
Her experience in the English world is so eye opening, the clothing feels uncomfortable, and she doesn’t feel covered enough, everything is faster, brighter, louder and more open. There are not the rules and restrictions she is used to, and her faith becomes severely tested especially when she starts dating an English man.
How will Abigail handle the pressures of the outside world, will she crave the less restrictions in this new fast life, or will her family and faith pull her back home? Such a beautiful story of a young woman following her heart while letting God lead the way.

Best-selling novelist Kelly Irvin’s latest Amish romance, Every Good Gift, debuted in February 2023. The third novel in the Amish Blessings series takes place in Yoder and Haven, Kansas. The series takes a look at adoption in Amish communities. The first book, Love’s Dwelling, won second place in the Selah Awards contest in the long contemporary romance category. The series follows the Amish of Sky Country series, which featured Amish communities in Northwest Montana affected by wildfires that destroyed thousands of acres in the state in recent years. The first book, Mountains of Grace, debuted in August 2019, and delves into the impact on not only an Amish man and woman, but also a smoke jumper, a sheriff’s deputy, and a young English woman forced to confront her past because of the fires.

Amish woman, Collette King is looking forward to welcoming Matthew Mueller back to Shadow Lake, a historic inn located near Lake Erie, Pennsylvania. It is being run by Collette and her sisters. She hasn’t seen him in some time, and she knows in her heart when he returns it is time to let him know exactly how she feels about him.
She eagerly anticipates the moment when he returns, and then he does. Her expectations fall to her feet when he shows up with another woman, a beautiful one, on his arm. Not wanting to speak to him, he convinces her to anyways. This woman is going around telling anyone who will listen and even some who won’t, Matthew is her intended and the wedding is upcoming.
Matthew made a promise to his late uncle when he was on his deathbed that he would marry this woman and he feel obligated to keep this promise though Collette is his true love. Collette has always enjoyed sewing, it clears her mind and relaxes her. As she makes a Christmas quilt honoring Matthew, she just thinks of him more.
I did not like the “other woman.” Her attitude is terrible. How could she treat Matthew this way? Will Collette’s heart stay broken, or will the holiday season ring in with a new true love?
I enjoy reading books by this author and this was a fun read.

This is a new to me author and quite often I am willing to give these authors a try. This is how I find some great reads. I am glad I tried this new author.
Though not at the writing level of some of the more established authors who write Amish fiction I still enjoyed the story. The presentation was easy to follow along with, the plot, nothing out of the ordinary that I haven’t seen in other Amish books, but it was a fun story. When you add in kittens, big friendly guard dogs, and mischievous goats I don’t think you can go wrong.
Ruth Helmuth, a childless widow has a nice farm, outbuildings and a dawdi house attached to her house. She uses all of these though to raise her goats and make her goat milk products, including soaps and lotions. When the bishop comes for a visit, he believes she should sell her farm to a man from the community who needs the prime property to expand his business. The bishop also believes she should remarry and quickly. She is pretty shocked when he makes her an offer, he thinks she won’t be able to pass up.
A widowed neighbor man with a young daughter starts helping her with chores around her farm and they become close. When he sees how takes she is with his daughter he knows she’d be the perfect mother for her but is that all he is interested in her for? It was fun seeing the interaction with her neighbor’s daughter and Ruth’s kitten. She is a fun and spunky little girl. I will be reading more by this author.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It’s tender and heartwarming but doesn’t shy away from real-life circumstances.
Pregnant Amish widow Mattie Byler is pregnant with her third child, she has two toddlers and a farm she’s running now after her husband’s death. Luckily her two sisters are able to live with her and help her, which she tremendously appreciates.
Her husband’s shunned brother shows up at her doorstep and tells her he’s going to marry her. She’s having none of it, he’s been gone eight years now that he’s left the faith. He says he fulfilling his brother’s wishes to take care of his wife if anything should happen to him, which unfortunately it has. As they spend more time together, she appreciates the chores he can do and the hard physical labor he can do she and her sisters cannot.
She finds herself falling for him but makes it completely clear he must make it right with his faith by seeing the bishop. Though he cares a great deal for her he’s not quite ready to return to the faith but she’s adamant in what he must do if he wants any chance with her. As they spend more time together, he comes clean on what life was like for him since he left the faith eight years ago.
It hasn’t been easy and has been a real eye-opener compared to the laid-back lifestyle of the Amish he was used to. He has lost in life because of choices he’s made but he’s ready to finally start anew with a renewed faith and a beautiful family.
Tender, sweet, realistic, loss and then renewal of life and faith. Beautiful! Recommended.

MY THOUGHTS
This is the third and final book in the Amish Holiday series with the others being a holiday Easter and Christmas book. I enjoyed reading this Thanksgiving book so close to Thanksgiving. Filled with pumpkins, harvests, apple cider and a farmers market stand the book is seasonally appropriate.
We are once again back in Promise Glen, a rural area with widowed Amish woman Rebecca King and her twin babies. The twins are rascals but utterly adorable as they babble In Pennsylvania Dutch. She dreams of expanding her orchard, but the babies take her time. Accepting help from her neighbor, who doesn’t always have the kindest things to say isn’t what she wants but she may have to take it.
I’m always pleased to see how the Amish come together to help each other. The community works as one, no matter what needs done they are there for each other. The story has a bit of a mystery to it and an unexpected romance for one of our characters.
The romantic characters each have problems that they are experiencing but they work through it together and help each other heal. The author writes a realistic Amish story, family, faith and love are strongly shown.

THE AUTHOR
I realized I wanted to be a writer at age eight, when I read my first Nancy Drew novel, The Secret of the Old Clock. Most little girl reach the end of that book wanting to be Nancy. I wanted to be the person who created the story!
The dream lay hidden for years while I became a teacher, married, had children…all the usual things. But eventually it re-surfaced, and I began to write, beginning with short children’s stories for Sunday school take-home papers. It seemed a long time until that first acceptance, but eventually I began to sell. After some three hundred published short stories, I finally found the courage to work on the novel I’d always wanted to write.
Sixty-some published novels later, I still feel the same excitement every time I begin a new book–a mix of not believing I can do it combined with an overwhelming urge to see the story on the page.
A lifetime spent in rural Pennsylvania and my own Pennsylvania Dutch roots eventually led me to the books I’m writing now about the Amish. The Pleasant Valley Amish series from Berkley Books are longer, more complex emotional stories with Amish main characters, while my forthcoming HQN suspense novels are more adventure-filled books set in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I’m also writing a Love Inspired series about the Amish, The Brides of Lost Creek.
When I’m not writing, I’m busy with church activities, traveling, and spending time with my three children and six beautiful grandchildren.

The cover of this book is very appealing, and I was immediately drawn to it. This book is by 3 popular authors of Amish fiction and each of the 3 stories are novella length.
The stories are full of faith and feel-good Christmas stories. These stories feature children and show the importance of family especially during the holiday season when many feel so alone. These are heartwarming and will touch your soul during this holiday season.

MY THOUGHTS
When I saw Shelley’s latest release in the A Season in Pinecraft series available I just had to grab it and read in less than a day. Never mind that it doesn’t release until November I wasn’t waiting to read it!
I’ve loved this series and getting to know the girls who met on a bus in an ice storm on the way down to Pinecraft. This happened in the first book. Each book in the series has taken us through the girls’ friendships and meeting their beau, marriage and them settling into adult life.
I enjoyed reading the descriptions of Pinecraft, Florida and its Amish population and how they’ve adapted to life there. This book is about Lilly Kurtz, leaving her old life behind is not quite as easy as she thought it would be. Secrets seem to come to light when you least expect it, but will it put a damper on her new budding relationship with hardworking farmer Eddie Byler?
Eddie and his grandmother, November have traveled from Ohio for a vacation. I’ll say November is unlike any Amish woman I’ve read about. She’s sassy and I love her character.
Lilly is happy, she’s found work at an inn and gets along well with the other employees and the owner. When she is blamed for an incident beyond her control at work who will she have to fall back on? I have really enjoyed this series; I think it may be my favorite by the author and greatly look forward to her next series. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. My Thoughts
This is very different from any Amish/Mennonite book I have ever read. And right there I applaud this because with so many books out there it’s truly hard to stand out and be an original, but this book succeeds. I have read every Amish book that the author has put out and am very impressed. I have not read her contemporary books yet, but I am looking forward to doing so. This book interestingly enough takes place during two time periods modern times and late 1930’s. Anyone who has read enough of my reviews knows how appreciative I am of a very well researched book that I also learn things from. This book fits those criteria.
2014- Ivy Zimmerman, a young Mennonite woman is adjusting to life without her parents after a fatal car accident. She’s also a carer for her younger sisters’ needs and coping with the strictness of Dawdi and Mammi’s strict rules. She’s also trying to figure out if she feels comfortable continuing her relationship with her boyfriend. To leave behind some stress she is looking forward to an upcoming trip to Germany for an international Mennonite youth gathering.
1930’s Germany- We find out about a family member’s story that happened during WWII. We also read some history of the Anabaptists, their persecution and the things they have gone through during this time period. The German’s quest to find the “perfect people” led to a lot of disgraceful experiments and eugenics. Though this is hard to read about it is an important thing to talk about and not forget. The book has many topics for discussion which adds to its interest. The flow between time periods is an easy transition. We see strong women in both time periods.
There is a revelation of the truth, and it adds a vulnerability to this character which makes the book even more realistic. There are ups and downs and many surprises in this story. I loved this story and kept me reading. My husband also read this story and enjoyed it as much as I did. Make sure to read the author’s notes at the back of the book, informative and interesting.
