FIRST LINE(S)

Three weeks before Christmas

Moreau, Louisiana

Mattie Hayes froze, her fingers warm around a latte, and stared at the flurries of white outside the window of Le Petit French Press coffee shop, the sight briefly restoring faith to her disheartened state of mind.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A Rare Snowfall Leads to a Christmas to Remember

Three heartwarming, interconnected stories of faith, love, and restoration, brought to you by three Louisiana-native authors. Will a rare snowy Louisiana Christmas bring restoration and hope to the hometown and hearts of three women from the town’s founding family?

In A Louisiana Snow by Morgan Tarpley Smith, meet Mattie: A passionate visionary who learns to forgive and finds love in unexpected places…

In Restoring Christmas by Betsy St. Amant, meet Jolene: An artist and prodigal daughter who discovers love exists in the very place she once called home…

In A Christmas Reunion by Lenora Worth, meet Adale: A beautiful widow who finally dares to love again…

And don’t forget Granny, whose feisty spirit, blunt dialogue, and quirky ways play an important and endearing role.

Thank you for stopping in. Happy weekend.

My first line is “Det har just börjat skymma när tre mystiska herrar stiger in i hövdingens hydda”.It is an Asterix comic book translated to Swedish (from French). Asterix is a very poular comic that has been translated 111 languages and sold in 385 million copies, which I believe is a world record.

No I did not teach them Swedish. It is not a very large language and except for my oldest who lived in Sweden as a toddler they all grew up the US. He spoke Swedish and English at a toddler level, but he thought English was the adult language and Swedish was the children’s language. At the airport in Chicago he tried to speak Swedish to the other children but he was ignored. Then he tried English and he was shocked that they responded, in English. He had never met children speaking English before. I will never forget his face. Anyway, after that it was all English.

That makes sense and it’s very hard to keep up with a language without being surrounded by many who speak it. And of course, children want to fit in so English it was. I do wish the older generation had kept the cultural traditions alive for me. The authenticity would have really been neat but living in American I guess it went by the wayside. I didn’t care when I was younger but now that I’m older think about it. Reading the Christmas at the Little Board Game Cafe made me think about it. They mentioned a Polish tradition of putting straw under the tablecloth as a reminder of where Jesus was born. I have some Polish in me so it would have been interesting to know some of the traditions.

Here is another one of my TBR books from my stack that was I think a free book that is structured like a journal and called “When Faith is Forbidden 40 days on the Frontlines with Persecuted Christians” by Todd Nettleton!
The beginning of the book starts: Departure Day:

Preflight Checklist

Then quotes the scripture of Hebrews 11: 13-16 and starts by saying, “We’re leaving for the airport in twenty-five minutes. I hope you’re ready.”
