Welcome To The Cornish Country Hospital: from the bestselling author of The Cornish Midwife, Jo Bartlett

330 pages Boldwood Books November 22,2023 publish date

ABOUT THE BOOK

A new start…

When Danni Carter moves to Cornwall from London, she hopes it will be the fresh start she so desperately needs. She’s nervous, but hopefully the change of scene will help her to finally forget her feelings for Lucas Newman, a man she can never be with, because he’s already engaged to Danni’s best friend, Esther.

An Impossible Dilemma…

But when Lucas and Esther decide to follow Danni to Cornwall, and both announce they will be working with her at the new St Piran’s hospital, Danni is thrown into turmoil again. She can’t lose Esther, but being near Lucas is getting harder to deal with. Will she have to give up her new life before it’s even started?

A chance to start again?

Throwing herself into work, Danni finds herself drawn to new patient, Connie Berrycloth, a woman Danni knows has dark secrets of her own. Secrets that are about to be revealed….

As the two women form a friendship, Danni begins to realise that letting go of her dreams might be the only way of holding on to the people she loves.

MY THOUGHTS

We are introduced to Danni as our main character in this warm and welcoming new series after the midwife series. The series has a hospital setting. I wasn’t sure how a hospital setting would be with all that could possibly happen there, good and bad but the start of the series is warm and welcoming.

Danni Carter is desperately need of a new start, so she takes herself off to London from Cornwall to get away from the memory of her breakup with Lucas. To make things worse her new hospital job she’s started at as her calming escape now has Lucas and her bestie Esther there working as well. Yes, Esther who is now in a relationship with her ex-Lucas.

So much for a new start away from it all. She doesn’t want to lose her friendship with her bestie but how can she cope with being by her ex constantly and working with him.

I’ll admit, this would be a really tricky situation, working with your ex who is now going out with your best friend. That’s a situation best left alone in my opinion.

As Danni throws herself into her work, she finds herself gravitating towards the friendship of a long-term patient who has a dark secret of her own.

I was drawn to this series and rooting for the characters. Drama, friendships tested, secrets revealed, and romance thrown in for good measure.

I enjoyed the character development and the strong story line. I’ll be continuing this series.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jo Bartlett was born a stone’s throw from the English Channel and still lives near the sea in Kent, with her family, so close to the South Eastern edge of England that they’re very nearly French. It’s probably why so many of her books are set near the sea too. Jo has made up stories for as long as she can remember, but never really took it any further, until a catalyst called cancer gave her the impetus to follow her dreams.

Since having her debut novel published in 2015, Jo has seen her books sold in stores all over the country, had numerous bestsellers in the UK, Australia and Canada, including a UK Top 10. Jo writes contemporary women’s fiction, with stories that focus on love, friendship, family and community. Since joining Boldwood Books in 2021, Jo has had a further eight bestselling novels in The Cornish Midwife series. With over 500,000 sales of her Boldwoood novels, and a further 500,000 thousands sales through other publishers, in 2023 Jo celebrated one million sales worldwide and, after twenty-five years in teaching, now writes full time.

Jo’s latest book, her 26th novel, Welcome to the Cornish Country Hospital, is out now and is the start of a brand new series from Boldwood Books. You can follow Jo on Twitter, Instagram, her author page on Facebook, or sign up to her newsletter – the details of which can be found on any of her social media accounts.

Have a wonderful day. Thank you for stopping in.

I fell in love with Cornwall after watching 11 (?) seasons of “Doc Martin,” which was filmed in Port Issac. I was in England last summer and was planning to visit, but we ran out of time.

This sounds like a great read! Thanks, Deanne 😎

I can imagine after watching 11 seasons of Doc Martin you got a real feel for Cornwall, Darryl. I’ve never been to England myself, but I know it’s packed full of history and would be an absolutely fascinating trip. Unfortunately, that’s how it always seems to work out, we run out of time before seeing everything we want to. Hopefully a return trip when you’ve a chance will remedy that.

You can’t go wrong reading one of her books Christopher. I am doing the blog tour for the second one in the series, so I wanted to quickly read the first, so I’d have a feel for the characters. Didn’t want to miss any important information about the characters and the second was a nice continuation of the story. To be honest I liked the second in the series better but of course that’s just my opinion.
