About The Book

A small-town baker learns to raise her expectations for love with some help from a handsome local teacher in this sunny romantic comedy.

Layla Dupree has given up on love. She’s waded through all the fish in the sea, each one more disappointing than the last. Apparently, owning the bakery at Inglewild’s most romantic destination does not help one’s love life—despite Layla’s best efforts. All she wants is a partner who gives her butterflies, not someone who ghosts her at dinner and leaves her with the check.

Good thing Caleb Alvarez has the perfect solution. After saving Layla from another date gone bad, he has a simple proposition: one month of no-strings dating. He’ll do his best to renew her faith in men while she rates his romantic game. It’s a win-win situation. All the benefits of dating without the added pressure of feelings and unmet expectations.

But there’s one ingredient they haven’t considered. The chemistry between them is red-hot, and the urge to take things to the next level is more tempting than Layla’s mocha fudge brownies.

My Thoughts

Yeah, you could kinda say I’ve enjoyed the Lovelight series. I’ve read all 3 books in the series and missed the first publication of the books but not this time.

I’ve read all 3 of them, Lovelight Farms, In the Weeds and this one, Mixed Signals. The series really is awesome, and I feel such a connection with the characters. The series really builds on each book as they all have characters from the previous books so you’re familiar with the characters while adding a few newbies in as well.

No worries if you don’t read them all or in order they work equally well as stand alones.
This one has the fake dating that we all know always turns into the real thing as they fall madly in love. I will say it was predictable, but you know what, predictable is okay sometimes.

Sensual romance that pairs perfectly with ice cream. I sure hope the series continues.

Sometimes the end is just the beginning…

When Jess Newman married the love of her life Ben she was sure they had what it took to stay together forever. So when Ben falls out of love with her only to promptly fall in the arms of new girlfriend, Naomi, she really doesn’t know how to come to terms with their divorce.

A year later, after an uncharacteristic leap of faith, she is raising her eight-year-old daughter alone while turning the beautiful Cornish farmhouse her grandad left her into a business.

It’s the fresh start she needed, but between learning how to lay gravel and making ends meet, it’s not quite everything she hoped it would be. Jess is determined to never need anyone ever again, even if handsome contractor Riley is always around ready to offer a hand…

If she is brave enough to let someone in, could one summer change everything?

Readers love Summer at the Cornish Farmhouse!

My Thoughts

I just loved the descriptions of Cornwall and the beautiful farmhouse with its glorious flowers Jess moves to. Seemingly coming out of the blue, her marriage is over, and Jess’s ex-husband has moved on.

Her daughter’s well-being is her main concern now and she moves to the beautiful Cornish farmhouse her granddad left her. She has the brilliant idea to turn it into a business. Renovations are underway and it’s shaping up quite well.

Contractor Riley gets the job done on the farmhouse, but can he unlock her frozen heart to let in love once again. I enjoyed seeing the family closeness Jess has with her granddad Cappy and how Cappy dotes on Lola, Jess’s young daughter.

This is so important when a child is going through times of uncertainty such as a parental divorce and moving to a new area. The story is warm, encouraging and upbeat. The perfect summertime beach read.

Blog Tour for The Berlin Wife’s Choice (previously The Flame Within Her) by Marion Kummerow

Book Description:

“I love you more than life itself. But you’re not safe. If you weren’t married to me, you wouldn’t suffer like this, terrorized by the yellow star on my chest. I could never live with myself if something happened to you—because of me.”

Berlin, 1939Edith Falkenstein once lived a fairytale life. Falling in love with Julius introduced her to a world she had only dreamed of. She wore the finest silk dresses to host parties in their historic mansion home.

But those days are a distant memory. Under Nazi rule, her Jewish husband Julius has been stripped of everything. Now the couple share a cramped apartment with other destitute families, and the priceless jewels that once adorned Edith’s neck have been sold to buy food on the black market.

Julius was lucky to escape being imprisoned once, and Edith knows he won’t be so fortunate a second time. The echo of boots marching across the city is a constant reminder of the danger they face. She begs Julius to flee the country, while they still can.

But as war rages across Europe, the journey will be fraught with peril. All Julius has ever wanted is to keep Edith safe. He knows there is only one way to truly protect the woman who stole his heart all those years ago—even if it means breaking hers.

Time is running out and Edith must decide: let Julius go or follow her heart and her husband into the danger that lies ahead…

An absolutely gripping, heartrending story of the lengths we go to for love, that fans of The Tattooist of AuschwitzThe Nightingale and My Name is Eva will adore.

My Thoughts

I love reading historical fiction. A well written book like this one has a lot of factual information in it. With how well researched the book is I am able to travel back in time with the author to a time of Nazi rule in Berlin.

Jews must wear a yellow star on their clothing. Once she wore fine jewels and ate steak dinners, now the jewels have been sold on the black market for food and rationing coupons barely get the family by with the most basic of necessities.

Picking up where the last book left off, we see the continuous struggles the Jews have and feel their anger, grief, fear and the helplessness that has seeped into their soul. The German women are told to divorce their Jewish husbands and shunned if they don’t.

Despite the darkness that has enfolded them these women will stand by their man despite the hardships it causes them. Full of strength, and belief in their husbands these women who don’t get enough credit are the backbone of their family and hold it all together. They will go to any length to show their love despite the danger they find themselves in.
I greatly look forward to the next book in this series.

Honey Drop Dead (A Tea Shop Mystery Book 26) by Laura Childs

316 pages August 8, 2023 publication date Berkely publisher

About The Book

The murder of a political bigwig at a Honey Bee Tea sends Theodosia Browning buzzing for answers in this latest installment
of the New York Times bestselling series.

Theodosia’s Honey Bee Tea was an elegant affair set in Charleston’s new Petigru Park amid newly planted native grasses and a community beekeeping project. But when a phony beekeeper shows up and sprays toxic smoke at the guests, the party erupts in chaos. Worse yet, a shot rings out and Osgood Claxton III, candidate for state legislature, falls to the ground—dead.

Holly Burns, the gallery owner who asked Theodosia to cater the tea, is understandably heartbroken. A man is dead, her guests are angry and injured, and the paintings that were on display are left in tatters. When the police don’t seem to have a clue, when old-line politicos don’t want questions asked, Holly begs Theodosia to run a shadow investigation and help restore her gallery’s good name.

Between hosting a Wind in the Willows Tea and a Glam Girl Tea, Theodosia questions everyone that had a bone to pick with Claxton. This includes Booker, an angry outsider artist; Lamar Lucket, Claxton’s political opponent; and Mignon Merriweather, the dead man’s soon-to-be ex-wife. But the investigation becomes a political hot potato following a second murder, the revelation of a messy affair, a chase through a swamp, and a vandalized shop.

INCLUDES DELICIOUS RECIPES AND TEA TIME TIPS!

My Thoughts

I will have to say I’ve bought many books by this author, haven’t read them all yet but have read quite a few of them. I drink a lot of tea, iced and hot and love the setting of this cozy mystery series taking place in a teashop.

Theodosia Browning owns a quite popular teashop in Charleston, South Carolina. Aside from running a teashop she seems to call amateur sleuthing her second calling. Murder always seems to find her or perhaps she finds it. In any case there is a murder during a private tea party at her Indigo Tea Shop on Church Street.

It’s a honeybee themed tea party complete with yellow bumblebee decorations and honey filled foods. When a “beekeeper” shows up at the party the guests think it’s part of the entertainment, but this “beekeeper” has other things on his mind when he smokes out a guest with noxious gas and they wind up dead. You will be kept buzzing along as you piece together all the clues thrown at you, many which will throw you off track as you think you’ve solved it, but it turns out to be a dead end.

Very entertaining and well-paced cozy mystery. I’m satisfied with this book.
Don’t forget to read to the end of the book as there are delicious sounding recipes, interesting facts about tea and a fun list of things to do when visiting Charleston, South Carolina.

In her previous life she was CEO/Creative Director of her own marketing firm and authored several screenplays. She is married to a professor of Chinese art history, loves to travel, rides horses, enjoys fund raising for various non-profits, and has two Chinese Shar-Pei dogs.

Laura specializes in cozy mysteries that have the pace of a thriller (a thrillzy!) Her three series are:

The Tea Shop Mysteries – set in the historic district of Charleston and featuring Theodosia Browning, owner of the Indigo Tea Shop. Theodosia is a savvy entrepreneur, and pet mom to service dog Earl Grey. She’s also an intelligent, focused amateur sleuth who doesn’t rely on coincidences or inept police work to solve crimes. This charming series is highly atmospheric and rife with the history and mystery that is Charleston.

The Scrapbooking Mysteries – a slightly edgier series that take place in New Orleans. The main character, Carmela, owns Memory Mine scrapbooking shop in the French Quarter and is forever getting into trouble with her friend, Ava, who owns the Juju Voodoo shop. New Orleans’ spooky above-ground cemeteries, jazz clubs, bayous, and Mardi Gras madness make their presence known here!

The Cackleberry Club Mysteries – set in Kindred, a fictional town in the Midwest. In a rehabbed Spur station, Suzanne, Toni, and Petra, three semi-desperate, forty-plus women have launched the Cackleberry Club. Eggs are the morning specialty here and this cozy cafe even offers a book nook and yarn shop. Business is good but murder could lead to the cafe’s undoing! This series offers recipes, knitting, cake decorating, and a dash of spirituality.

Have a fabulous day and thanks for spending time here today.

Crisis Rescue Team

Book 1: Fatal Forensic Investigation
Book 2: Explosive Christmas Showdown
Book 3: Mountain Abduction Rescue
Book 4: Buried Grave Secrets

My Thoughts

Very well written Christian suspense. I loved the setting of the state park in the Canadian wilderness. It was the perfect setup for the romantic suspense. High nonstop action will have you holding your breath. A madman firebug is setting dangerous fires in the wilderness and won’t let anyone stop him.

When young boys turn up missing a mother will go to any extent to bring them back including putting herself in danger. You can feel the rush of adrenaline as time ticks away with dangerous fires popping up everywhere but when young missing children are thrown into the mix there is a whole new sense of urgency to find them.

With red herrings thrown into the mix to throw you off track this is a high stakes edge of your seat case to solve. Having read other books by this author I can recommend them all and look forward to solving more cases soon in the books to come.

My Thoughts

This is what you think of when you think of a Hallmark movie.
Part of the Christmas Tree Ranch series and the second book I’ve read in the series. Last year’s Christmas book was the first book. I can tell you this much, I will be needing to go to my library and find the rest of the books in this incredible series. I haven’t read many books by this author; I know she has quite a few but the ones I’ve read I’ve enjoyed quite a bit.

When you’re thinking of what makes a Christmas book fulfilling this is the type of book you’ll think of. Richly detailed for Christmas but the book doesn’t go overboard with sickeningly sweet like some books do, small town, children, wonderful characters, engaging plot and a realistic romance.

Divorced mother, Ruth McCoy just wants her children to have happy Christmas memories and wants to start new family traditions. A mama bear she will do all she can to protect these children, even her oldest a fifteen-year-old boy who is out to prove he’s a man who doesn’t really need Mama’s guidance, but we all know they do at that age.

A run in with an old flame stirs up memories on both of their parts and we get a flash back to Ruth and Judd’s past. Can he convince her a second chance romance with him is the best thing for her and her children or is it all just water under the bridge best left in the past?

A very warm and welcoming story where the characters seem like friends you’d want to stop and have coffee with. Will a secret from Ruth’s past put the brakes on the budding relationship between Ruth and Judd? A sweet romance that’ll surely get you in the holiday mood.
Recommended!

Autumn Laine has lost her creative sparkle. After losing her grandad and her job as an illustrator in quick succession, she is at a crossroads in life and needs a break. Spending time with her parents in Paris, even in the artistic community of Montmartre, doesn’t appear to be the answer.

So when her penpal, Rosie, invites her to stay in the Lake District, Autumn jumps at the chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of Paris. After all, where better to re-discover her creativity than the place which inspired her heroine, Beatrix Potter?

Arriving at the picturesque lakeside village of Willowdale, Autumn is swept up by the beauty and magic of the stunning landscape. Welcomed into the community with open arms, she slowly starts to feel like herself again as her creative instincts re-ignite.

But when she meets Dane, who has escaped to the Lakes for his own reasons, will Autumn’s walls come down to let someone in again after so long? Or will the secrets of her past continue to hold her back?

A new beginning is a daunting prospect, but could it be the start of something wonderful too..?

Join million-copy bestseller Jessica Redland for a brand new series, full of love, friendship and community.

My Thoughts

Though I was sad to see Jessica Redland’s Hedgehog series end I am delighted to see a new series beginning with the first in the series “The Start of Something Wonderful.” Full of a heartwarming story, hope, laughter, friendships, love, laughter and so much more. Small town vibes with such a cozy feel to it that you’ll just love. Autumn Laine was very close to her Grandad . When she loses him and her illustrator job she’s broken. She accepts her parents offer of visiting them in Paris. She hasn’t been back since a breakup many years ago. Though she’s an artist the artistic community of Montmartre just doesn’t feel right either. Though trying to avoid it a ghost from her past resurfaces, an old boyfriend who she had an extensive past with. As we read about their backstory, we get a clear understanding of their previous relationship. Autumn is an illustrator of greeting cards but has lost her mojo after her grandfather’s death. Upon meeting a new man their friendship progresses rather quickly as her encourages her with her artistic abilities and they may collaborate on a project. When her old flame is once again interested i rekindling things and her new beau wants to take it to the next level, how will she choose. I really loved the references to the Beatrix Potter illustrations, her gardens and home. The mentions of the many woodland animals and all the other animals was a welcome addition to the story. Warm and pleasant, I loved this story and its characters and look forward to many more additions to this series.

Publication Day review for Cherishing the Cowgirl: A Sweet Historical Romance (Colorado Cowgirls Book 2) by Jody Hedlund

238 pages Publisher Northern Lights Press July 25,2023 publish date

About The Book

Charity Courtney is at her wit’s end trying to save her boardinghouse from a bank foreclosure. Short of money but not short of marriage proposals, she dreads putting aside her fairy tale dreams of love and having to settle for a marriage of convenience. But with the need to provide for her two younger sisters, she doesn’t have any other options.

While visiting Fairplay, wealthy railroad magnet Hudson Vanderwater hears of Charity’s plight. Although he comes across as cold and calloused, he is drawn to helping women in need because of a tragedy that destroyed his sister. He concocts a plan that will save Charity—he’ll employ her and rent her boardinghouse for the month and in doing so alleviate her debt.

With a grumpy and demanding new boarder who is now her boss, Charity determines to hold the handsome Hudson at arm’s length. But she’s the sunshine for his stormy soul, and he can’t resist being drawn to her. As danger closes in and threatens to destroy Charity, he’ll stop at nothing to save her.

  • Grumpy-sunshine
  • Cranky billionaire
  • Crusty boss
  • Rags-to-riches
  • Fairytale
  • Class differences

My Thoughts

I am really enjoying the Colorado Cowgirl series Jody Hedlund has written. This is the second in the series but can easily be read as a standalone.
Charity Courtney is the eldest Courtney sister. She takes on the responsibility of her two younger sisters. They’ve inherited a home from their uncle, but money is owed on it, and they are in financial straits while desperately trying to pay it off.

I loved the meeting of grumpy and sunshine. What a powerful connection they have. Charity is a sweet young miss, rather naive just trying to pay off the home loan and taking care of her sisters.

Hudson Vanderwater is a wealthy railroad magnet, buttoned up, straightlaced he hears of Charity’s plight and wants to help her. How they meet is hilarious, he is being chased by an animal and she saves him. He is used to having women fall all over him trying to impress him, she doesn’t and treats him like any other guy, not like anyone important and he’s intrigued.

How can Hudson help her pay off her debt and keep Charity and her sisters in their home? Will Charity have to accept a marriage of convenience with a local banker who has been hounding her for marriage. When a scandal is almost caused will Charity be able to recover her dignity and upstanding name? Clean sweet, western romance and I loved it. Greatly looking forward to more in this series.

Bookouture Blog Tour for An American Wife in Paris-riveting historical fiction from Chrystyna Lucyk-Berger

About The Book

“If I go back to Paris, it would be my third time there as an undercover agent…” Kitty murmured. “I ask myself, how many chances does one person get?”

Paris, 1941. When Kitty is asked to return to Paris as an undercover agent, she knows the mission is her most dangerous yet. But she has been fighting the Nazis for too long to stop now. And her role within the Resistance has already cost her friends, family and now – almost – her own marriage.

Because while she and Edgar are more in love than ever, his role as an undercover Nazi means it is safer if they are no longer married. And while signing the divorce papers is a formality that breaks her heart, Kitty knows that she and Edgar will find a way to be together when the war is finally over…

More determined than ever to undermine the Nazi regime, Kitty has nothing left to lose. From secretly supplying Prisoner of War camps with essential items, to moving refugees across borders to safety, she will stop at nothing to play her part in bringing the war to a close, even if it means risking her own life.

But when Edgar goes missing, Kitty’s world stops. As she begins a desperate search for her beloved husband, she hears from her contacts that he has been killed. But Kitty feels strongly in her heart that, somewhere out there, Edgar is still alive. And she knows she must risk everything to rescue the man she loves, no matter what…

An absolutely gripping, heartbreaking and powerful story about courage, love and bravery in the midst of World War 2. Perfect for fans of The Nightingale, My Name is Eva and All the Light We Cannot See.

My Thoughts

An American Wife in Paris is the second book in the incredible The Diplomat’s Wife series.
Before starting this book, I do advise you to read An American Wife which is the first book in this series. It will give you the characters backstory and help you to understand their thoughts even better.

Once again, we see Kitty returning to Paris as an undercover agent. She knows it’s her most dangerous mission yet. Married to an Austrian diplomat she is thrown into a very different world than she was used to. Edgar is Nazi spy; it breaks Kitty’s heart to have to sign papers for a divorce for her safety. This is for you if you enjoy spying, thrilling, edge of your seat gripping stories.

One thing we notice is Kitty’s unfailing love for Edgar. It propels her forward and is the driving force and encouragement for doing what she needs to do.
Once I started reading it this book was very hard to put down.
You must ask yourself can you trust your contacts?
Kitty works with the Resistance movement and constantly finds herself in dangerous situations

The research is very evident in the book and it’s such a compelling read. Very well written. The ending was very tense, and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Her books tackle David-vs.-Goliath themes with strong women battling for the Underdogs against a system, be it political, geographical, or industrial. Sometimes all three. “I enjoy discovering the good, the bad, and the ugly in my characters when they come into conflict,” she says. “And all of my stories have been inspired by injustices I’ve discovered along my travels.”
