Book Birthday Blitz for Mistletoe Moments by Stephanie Wood, a festive novella.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Mistletoe Moments (Christmas on The Close #5)

You are invited to spend CHRISTMAS ON THE CLOSE where each of the neighbours are celebrating in their own special way.

Veronica and Owen are looking forward to a happy Christmas on The Close with their friends and neighbours.

Their son, Travis, is due to take some important exams, but will he be able to concentrate when a serious crush derails his schedule?

As their fortieth birthdays approach, some significant celebration will be required, but how can Veronica agree to Owen’s life-changing request?

The fifth standalone episode of ‘Christmas on The Close’ shows how sharing a treasured life with someone does not necessarily result in sharing the same treasured dreams.

MY THOUGHTS

Set at Christmas time though I feel this novella would be a fun read any time of the year. The Close is all about neighbors and this one feature Veronica and Owen and their son Travis. The couple are approaching forty. Though a couple they don’t have the same dreams. Their son Travis is growing up before their eyes, where has the time gone? No longer a child, but not quite grown he’s in a different life stage than them and they’re having a hard time relating to each other. We get a glimpse of life with the other neighbors, and I’m intrigued enough to want to read the other stories in this series now as well. Heartwarming and fun. A great read!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

Author Bio

I write contemporary fiction in the form of novels, novellas and short stories.

I have two series of linked standalone stories; one is a collection of Greek holiday reads called Aegean Sun and the other is Christmas on the Close which is set in a suburban cul-de-sac and reveals what is happening in each of the neighbours’ houses over the festive period.

I live in Lancashire where I have a large garden which takes a lot of maintenance, but I also enjoy reading lots of different genres and watching the soaps Emmerdale and Neighbours because I love character-based stories.

Book Birthday Blitz for Maid of Steel by Kate Baker plus UK giveaway

ABOUT THE BOOK

Maid Of Steel

It’s 1911 and, against her mother’s wishes, quiet New Yorker Emma dreams of winning the right to vote. She is sent away by her parents in the hope distance will curb her desire to be involved with the growing suffrage movement and told to spend time learning about where her grandparents came from.

Across the Atlantic – Queenstown, southern Ireland – hotelier Thomas dreams of being loved, even noticed, by his actress wife, Alice. On their wedding day, Alice’s father had assured him that adoration comes with time. It’s been eight years. But Alice has plans of her own and they certainly don’t include the fight for equality or her dull husband.

Emma’s arrival in Ireland leads her to discover family secrets and become involved in the Irish Women’s Suffrage Society in Cork. However, Emma’s path to suffrage was never meant to lead to a forbidden love affair…

Giveaway for UK residents. Rules at the bottom of the post.

MY THOUGHTS

I was drawn to the cover of the book and the subject matter sounded so interesting.
It’s 1911 in New York and the adventure starts at the very beginning of the book and continues throughout.

The women involved in the suffrage movement during this time period show such strength. No one’s words or opinions are going to stop them.
Being sent away to Ireland in the early twentieth century is meant to make Emma forget about women’s suffrage, but she becomes more involved than ever with it.

I was swept away in the beautiful description of Cork which just enforces my wish to visit Ireland someday to trace my ancestors.
You’re going to experience a lot of emotions while reading this, this story is so beautifully written.

A gripping story of self-discovery, family secrets revealed and a shocking scandalous love affair.
Glimmering with elegance this page turner will take you by surprise.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

MY THOUGHTS

After just reading the first book in this new series by an author I enjoy reading very much I was more than eager to dig into Finding Friends at the Cornish Country Hospital and get an update on the characters’ lives. Though this is a series it can be read as a standalone, but why would you do that when both books are so much fun.

The first book has Danni’s story and now we have Esther’s story. Esther was going out with Lucas, Danni’s ex but the jerk cheated on her. There is so much going on in this book, so many side stories that I am hoping to see a continuation of one that will develop into out next book in the series. There is also Caroline, Esther’s mom.

They say retirement can be really rough on a couple not used to being around each other all day long. As Caroline tries to engage her husband in activities to spend time together and have a closer bond, he seems to be pulling the opposite way, away from her. It was very realistic seeing Caroline and her husband’s story as often times happens with long married couples. They both has misconceptions about how the other feels and secrets are so damaging in relationships.

Danni’s brother Joe is in town from Australia and working in the same hospital. Things seem to be a great match with Esther but how could things possibly take a romantic turn when he will be here for such a limited time?

Once again, I enjoyed the realistic hospital setting and meeting the patients. There is a bit of a charged atmosphere with the hospital staff dealing with mental illness, as kindness is thought to be so much more. It had me feeling creeped out a bit.

The author does such a great job of drawing the reader into the character’s lives and having you right there with them. Such a strong story line, it kept my attention and had me eagerly reading it. I am hopeful there will be more in this series because I am not ready to let these characters go quite yet.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

Blog Tour for The Island Cottage by Jane Lovering

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Island Cottage

When Brid Harcus is sent to the Orkney Islands, in the far reaches of Scotland, she has high hopes for her trip being short, straightforward and lucrative.

Her mother has inherited a cottage from her Great Aunt Jennet which has been unlived in and unloved for decades, and the time has come to make it habitable and saleable. Easy, right?

But Midness Cottage has other ideas. For one thing it’s rather more ‘fixer upper’ than Country Living, with a resident goose and her goslings who have made themselves at home. And Brid definitely hadn’t planned for the strongly-held local belief that the cottage is meant to be the home of the Orkney Witch, and whomever lives in it must fulfil this role. Not the best message for the estate agent brochure and of course Brid doesn’t believe in magic, let alone have healing powers.

But Orkney does have healing powers. Its beauty and peace are enchanting, its people welcoming, and Brid’s handsome new friend Magnus is rather charming too. When her life back in York starts calling her home, will Brid sell up and ship out? Or did the last Orkney Witch cast a spell and leave a legacy of love if only Brid believed in magic…

MY THOUGHTS

One thing I love about the author’s books is their association with cottages. As someone who lives in the US, I associate cottages as being a UK thing. Yes, we have them here but not the same way as I see them over there. In my mind the cottages there are magical, cozy, maybe a bit small but perfect for a couple and maybe throw in a few fairy lights.
I just love books with cottages.

A fifty-year vacant cottage sits on Orkney Islands, in the far reaches of Scotland. Inherited by Brid Harcus’s mother she doesn’t want it, so Brid knows she’ll pop in make quick work of the repairs and make a nice turn around profit quickly. When she arrives, it’s vacant alright except for the goose and her goslings that she’s super protective of. Woe is anyone who dares to go near them.

Brid hasn’t counted on having such a handsome neighbor as Magnus. Lifelong resident Mangus knows the cottage called Midness Cottage is known to outsiders as the “Witches’ Cottage, as Brid’s great Aunt Jennet was known as while living there.

Can Brid fix the cottage quickly with Magnus’s help and not scare off the tourists who’ve heard rumors? Will Brid be able to open up to Mangus even though she’s planning on leaving soon as the fix up is done? I loved Magnus’s character; he reminded me of a big bumbling guy that finally gets seen for his compassionate and genuine side. Fun, heartwarming, a true joy to read. I loved it.

Boldwood Blog Tour-Finding Love At Roseford Blooms by Fay Keenan

About The Book

Finding Love at Roseford Blooms

After a rough year, the last place Lizzie Warner wants to be is Roseford. It may be a picture-postcard country idyll, but for Lizzie it will always hold difficult memories from her past. But when the alternative to staying with her Aunt Bee, owner of Roseford Blooms, is moving back in with her controlling parents – well, the choice is easy.

Simon Treloar was born and raised to be the Lord of the Manor, but now he’s had to hand over his beloved Roseford Hall to a heritage charity, he begins to question his usefulness. Can he find a way to make his mark, or is it better to walk away from generations of history and strike out on his own?

When Lizzie and Simon meet, they recognise kindred spirits in each other. But with both questioning their futures, can one magical summer in Roseford help Lizzie and Simon move on from what is holding them back? Or is there too much history on both sides for them ever truly to be happy together?

Purchase Link – https://amzn.to/3CmOh7J

My Thoughts

Once again back in scenic rural Roseford. I just love these books in the Roseford series. You feel like you’ve made some friends and they’ll have your back if problems arise over a cup of tea. Just put on the kettle.
Our main character Lizzie Warner has gone through a rough spot the past year or so. Not wanting to move back in with her parents, her father is very controlling she goes to see Aunt Bee who runs Roseford Blooms floral shop. Unfortunately on the way there she’s in an accident and breaks her collarbone. Now I’ve never broken a bone, but I can imagine a broken collarbone is especially painful. Her aunt welcomes her with open arms.
Simon Treloar was born and raised as lord of the manor but due to circumstances not of his making he’s had to hand it over to charity.
I enjoyed seeing how cautious Lizzie and Simon are around each other though they are attracted to each other. They can sense a bit of a wariness in the other and don’t want to move things too quickly. A slow burn romance that I so enjoyed watching it play out. Aunt Bee is a sweetheart, so kind and understanding but she won’t let anyone get the best of her. There also is a wedding taking place with one of the characters from the last book and Aunt Bee is so busy planning it. When financial accusation gets put into Lizzie’s head it causes trouble with the couple. Will they be able to overcome this?
Full of lighthearted characters and a fun plot I’m looking forward to the next book coming out by this author.

Blog Tour For Kind Hearts and Carrot Cakes

SYNOPSIS

When you suddenly find yourself loveless and penniless, how on earth do you make it through?
An emotional but ultimately uplifting story of one woman’s struggles to get by, and the special someone who brings hope and happiness to light up her world…

Purchase Link – https://amzn.to/3GYGH5X

My Thoughts

KIND HEARTS AND CARROT CAKES is my first read by Rosie Green and I will promptly be looking up the rest of her books. Why didn’t someone tell me about her books sooner?
It’s so relatable and realistic. We all have struggles as we go through life, some more than others. We see this in Kind Hearts and Carrot Cakes but through hard work and help from family and friends our main character is able to get through this and she shines. Her main concern is not for herself but for her son and this is the right way to do things. This book is just what I needed, full of encouragement, it is a ray of sunshine for my day. I just can’t stop thinking about it and what a positive motivation this book is.

The Author

Rosie has been scribbling stories ever since she was little. Back then, they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’. Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all – unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Rosie’s Little Duck Pond Cafe series of novellas is centred around life in a village cafe. Each book can be read as a stand-alone story. Her latest, Kind Hearts & Carrot Cake, is a heart-warming tale about one woman’s determination to cope in the face of heartbreak and financial disaster, and how a problem shared can be the best way out of the nightmare. ‘Clara’s Secret Garden’, the first in a trilogy telling Clara’s story, was published in August 2022, and ‘A
Winter Wish’ and ‘Clara’s Christmas Magic’, followed. Look out for ‘The Cheesecake
Challenge’, out in April 2023.

Rosie has also written a full-length, stand-alone book, ‘Snowflakes over Moondance Cottage’, a heart-breaking but ultimately uplifting tale filled with the joy of the season.

GoodReads Synopsis

When Norah arrives in Venice for a ten-week internship she is surprised to discover that her guide for her work trips around the lagoon is the undeniably gorgeous and kind Gianluca. She can’t help thinking he might be too good to be true, with his endless fascinating local stories, and his infectious laugh.

Norah is still bitter after an accident left her with a serious injury and also meant the end of her long-term relationship. And besides, she’s serious about her career and that means leaving Venice at the end of the summer.

Gianluca has had a summer fling before that led to heartache for him and he won’t do it again. He enjoys the long hours out on the lagoon with Norah, but after a storm strands them on a picture-perfect island for a night, they agree they should just be good friends for the summer.

But life doesn’t always go to plan, and when it’s time for Norah to go, they have to decide whether what they have between them is really just a friendship, and not something more…
