Christmas in July Reads, Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy (Star Valley Book 1) by Sara Richardson

336 pages October 11, 2022 publish date Forever publisher

About The Book

This city girl could use a dose of good old-fashioned cowboy Christmas cheer in this charming holiday romance for fans of Jennifer Ryan and Maisey Yates!

Pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler is finally going to realize her dream. She’s got a job lined up at the most prestigious children’s hospital in London. There’s only one little snag—first she has to sell the Wyoming town she’s just inherited from her estranged father. After a little fixing up, the place should easily attract a buyer. Hopefully she’ll be celebrating the sale by New Year’s.

Ex-Navy SEAL Aiden Steele couldn’t save his brother-in-law on the battlefield, but he can save his sister’s ranch and give his nieces the life they deserve in the town they love. He’s not about to let some outsider make a mint selling to a ruthless developer. Operation Save Star Valley is foolproof: show Kyra the sights, let the Christmas spirit work its magic, and bam! She’ll decide not to sell, and he can ensure his family is taken care of. Except as he tries to make Kyra fall in love with the town, Aiden starts falling for her.

My Thoughts

This is another Christmas in July read for me.
Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy is the first book in the Star Valley series.
You always have to read the Christmas book in the series because it’s a little extra.
Pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler is thrilled, her dreams have finally come true. All her years of hard work and devotion have finally paid off, it’s been noticed, and she’s finally landed her dream job at the prestigious children’s hospital in London.

She can leave all the memories behind and start over again after she moves out of the country. Ther’s a slight snag though, first she must sell the Wyoming town she’s just inherited from her estranged father. After visiting the proper authorities, it seems as though there’s more to this selling than she’s realized.

Ex-Navy SEAL Aiden Steele couldn’t save his brother-in-law on the battlefield and it’s haunting his waking hours. He’s determined not to allow Miss Big Bucks to step in and create a topsy turvey turn of events in the town his precious nieces are growing up in, he only wants the best for these sweet little girls.

Aiden is determined to show Kyra how charming Star Valley is and have her want to stay and not sell off the town to one of those big developers. A spirit of Christmas magic is wrapped around the lovely plot. Will Kyra doing some Christmas baking with the cute little girls that have become wrapped around her fingers and Aiden taking her to visit the town’s sights work it’s Christmas magic on her? Holiday good cheer and memories were made for the characters as the season happily wraps up.

Christmas in July Reads,A Cosy Christmas at Bridget’s Bicycle Bakery: (The Carrington’s Bicycle Bakery, Book 1) by Alex Brown

348 pages October 14,2021 publish date One More Chapter publisher

About The Book

The brand new romantic Christmas read from Alex Brown –the Queen of Feel Good Fiction and #1 bestseller!

Bridget smiled to herself, certain she could see one of the stars twinkling extra brightly in that moment as if to acknowledge her wish and convince her that, yes, Mulberry-On-Sea was just the place they all needed to be. Surrounded by those happy memories of holidays and special times where nothing bad ever happened…

Finding yourself without a home in the weeks before Christmas would break most people, but for Bridget Carrington it’s a chance to start again. Mulberry-On-Sea has always been her happy place and she’s hoping it can work its magic this festive season and heal her family after a difficult year.

Now, as the community wraps Bridget and her children in its warm embrace, she starts to feel like herself again. With a new business, kids who are starting to smile, and the promise of a second chance at love, Bridget’s holiday season might just be a happy ever after…

Today

My Thoughts

This book just has Christmas written all over it. I can’t think of a thing I didn’t enjoy about the book. From the books charming cover to it descriptions of Christmas baking, the wintery scenery to meeting the neighbors with the possibility of a new romance I was there for it and enjoying it all. The past year has been so hard for Bridget and her children, they are grieving the loss of their husband/father and money is running so low.

With her mother’s encouragement she moves her family back to her happy place, Mulberry-On-Sea . Its full of happy memories and peaceful times. Bridget is more than a fair baker and so why not, she’ll open a shop selling her scrumptious breads and mince pies along with the best of holiday treats. To advertise she takes her baked goods on her bicycle and gives them away to neighbors as samples.

The people are so happy to see her. I really loved the idea of this because she visited shut ins and other lonely people who needed someone especially around the holidays. Smart move on her part as business is now booming. Her children are happily enjoying their new Christmas toys and settling in. Santa just may just be filling her stocking with a chance at love this Christmas season. Such a heartwarming story, the perfect pick me up. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Christmas in July Reads, How Snowball Stole Christmas (Snowball #3) by Kristen McKanagh

272 pages September 27, 2022 publish date Kensington publisher

About The Book

It’s Christmas time at the Weber Haus mountainside inn, where the official greeter, watcher, and matchmaker of the hotel’s resident humans is an adorably mischievous bundle of feline fluff named Snowball. Snowball takes her job very seriously –even if it means being a little more naughty than nice –and she’s ready to celebrate her third holiday season by making the purrrrfect match.

Most cats have nine lives, but Snowball is one of the very few with two jobs. Officially, she’s the Weber Haus inn’s greeter. Unofficially, she’s the town matchmaker. Her track record is the cat’s pajamas—until she meets her owner’s grinchy brother, Peter Diemer. Peter hopes to move the family bookstore to a busy location downtown—but someone else has outbid him for the last storefront.

Christmas is the ideal season for Lara Wolfe to fulfill her dream of expanding her home business into a real shop. Too bad someone is posting negative comments on the town forum. What kind of Grinch objects to a toy store?

Snowball is sure these two are a perfect match. They already have so much in common—books are a kind of toy, right? Now all they need to add to the mix is love, and Snowball has just the shenanigans up her furry sleeve to deliver a sweet romance in time to make the season merry and bright . . .

Purrresistibly heartwarming.”
Modern Cat on The Twelve Days of Snowball

My Thoughts

Snowball is back once again in this third book in the series. She is an adorable, beautiful white kitten. She is adorable , sassy, brilliant and used to getting her way.
Snowball lives at the Weber Haus mountainside inn she’s also the official greeter, who could resist this bundle of fluff and the inn’s unofficial matchmaker.

She has her eyes set on matching her owner and a newcomer in town.
When her owner’s grouchy brother and the new woman in town are both going for the same empty storefront there just may be trouble and more than a few cross words said. One is trying to move the family’s bookstore to this larger location the other trying to open a toy store. Who could go wrong with a toy store at Christmas time.

As Snowball sees a romance brewing for her owner and the woman will things turn sour when she finds out grump is her potential romantic interest’s brother? It’s Christmas time, I’m sure some type of compromise can be reached, right? The Snowball books are a fun addition to the Christmas books I’ve read especially when it’s told from a cats’ point of view.

Christmas in July Reads, One Last Gift by Emily Stone

379 pages October 11,2022 publication date Random House publisher

About The Book

When a young woman finds herself lost and at a crossroads, one last gift from her brother just might give her another chance at life and at love in this epic holiday romance from the author of Always, in December

“Heartbreaking, romantic and full of warmth . . . waterproof mascara recommended!”—Sarah Morgan, author of The Christmas Sisters

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: PopSugar

Sometimes the best gifts in life are the ones you don’t expect.

Cassie and Tom lost their parents at a young age and relied on each other—as well as a community of friends—to cope. They were especially close with Tom’s best friend, Sam, who always made sure that Tom and Cassie were surrounded with love. But, twenty years later, Cassie has lost Tom as well. And in a way, she’s also lost Sam; over the years they’d drifted apart, and now the man she always had a crush on is someone she doesn’t even recognize anymore.

She’s never felt more alone.

Then Cassie finds an envelope with her name on it, written in Tom’s terrible handwriting, and she knows immediately what it is. It’s the first clue in the Christmas scavenger hunt that Tom made for her every year; he’d promised her for months that this year’s would be the grandest one yet. At first, she’s too scared to open the envelope—what if she can’t figure out the clues without his help? Or what if she does figure them all out and her last connection to Tom is gone?

Tom’s present sets Cassie on a heart-wrenching and beautiful journey that will change her life—if she lets it. And as she travels from London to the Welsh mountains to the French countryside, she reconnects with old friends, rekindles a lost love, and, most important, rediscovers herself. But once she’s solved the final clue, will she be brave enough to accept the gift her brother has given her—and the love it’s led her to?

My Thoughts

One Last Gift is Cassie’s story, but it is also Tom’s story. Cassie and Tom are siblings with Tom being the oldest. Sadly, they lose their parents at a very young age and are sent to live with an aunt. Being that Cassie is younger she doesn’t want her aunt but her mother, which is of course understandable.

Tom is Cassie’s buffer, her so to speak protector in life, comforting her during sad times when he himself is going through turmoil but he doesn’t show it. As you could imagine the siblings are close in their relationship. For quite some time Tom and Sam have been best friends, nothing they wouldn’t do for each other. You know what they say about wanting to date your brother’s best friend, but Cassie doesn’t heed this and makes her feelings known to Sam during a skiing trip. Sam seems to reciprocate these feelings, but he brushes off her feelings and she is really hurt.

With how nice of a guy Tom is you really become attached to him and then to find out he passes away in an accident is devastating. Understandably Sam is beside himself with grief with his best friend gone and Cassie blames him for not being able to help him and that just piles on the guilt. I enjoyed seeing the witty banner between Sam and Cassie when they aren’t at each other’s throats.

The one really neat thing is each year at Christmas time Tom sets up a treasure hunt for Cassie to solve and the clues get harder each year. It was such an emotional time reading as she goes through the clues and solves them. The clues take her to places outgoing Tom knew she would have never gone on her own and they have her doing things she wouldn’t have had the courage to do.

The book is very encouraging but yet very emotional. In a way it’s as though Tom is still here in a small way giving Cassie the encouragement and pick me up, she needs. Such a fabulous book. I recommend this to everyone needing a quiet moment of reflection and a dose of encouragement.

About The Author

Hello, I’m Emily! If you’ve found this page then welcome, and thanks so much for showing an interest in my writing.

I have written three books now, which feels surreal! My latest novel is Love, Holly in the US and The Christmas Letter in the UK. My books always revolve around the Christmas period, but span the course of a whole year and more. They also deal with love – and grief, in one way or another. I think I put a part of me in every book – as I’m sure every author does – and my newest book is no exception. The main character – Holly – often does the wrong thing for the right reasons, and that is a situation I’ve found myself in! And with three sisters myself, writing about the sister love – and difficulties – in this book felt personal at times!

My other two novels are One Last Gift – a story of finding yourself when you feel that’s impossible, and of the love between siblings – and Always, in December. As my debut novel, it will always be one close to my heart. Whilst very different from me, the protagonist, Josie is suffering with a grief that I know all too well – losing a parent/parents at a young age, and having to carry that grief into adulthood, long after it’s supposedly ‘gone away’. I lost my mum when I was seven, and I still think about her even now, in my thirties – and that’s something that Josie and I share. Max, too, is suffering his own kind of grief, and that’s something that he has to learn to deal with. But whilst the novel is about grief, and learning to live with that, it’s also about falling in love, and about learning to be brave, even when your life doesn’t feel quite right yet – even if it feels like it will never quite be right!

I wrote my first two novels in a glorious house in Chepstow, living with my sister and my two nieces. My third book I wrote on the English coastline in Cornwall – so I consider myself very lucky!

If you read any of my novels then thank you, and I really hope you enjoy! If you want to get in touch then I’d love to hear from you – I’m on Twitter and Instagram under @EmStoneWrites!

Have a wonderful day. Thanks for your visit today.

Christmas in July Reads, Cozy Mystery-Murder at the Christmas Cookie Bake-Off by Darci Hannah (Beacon Bakeshop #2)

352 pages October 5,2021 publish date Kensington publisher

About The Book

Tucked away inside an old lighthouse in Beacon Harbor, Michigan, bakeshop café owner Lindsey Bakewell is ready to make her first Christmas in town shine bright. But her merry plans crumble fast when murder appears under the mistletoe…

With the spirit of the holidays wafting through the Beacon Bakeshop, Lindsey thinks she has the recipe for the sweetest Christmas ever—winning the town-wide cookie bake-off. Unfortunately, striving for a picture-perfect December in Beacon Harbor is a lot like biting into stale shortbread. Low on staff and bombarded by visits from family, Lindsey can barely meet demands at work, let alone summon the confidence to face fierce competition…

Self-appointed Christmas know-it-all Felicity Stewart is determined to take the top spot in the bake‑off, and she’s not afraid to dump a little coal in everyone’s stocking to do it. Just as the competition heats up, everything falls apart when the judge is found dead—and covered in crumbs from Lindsey’s signature cookie!

Solving a murder was never on Lindsey’s wish list. But with her reputation on the line during the happiest time of the year, she’ll need to bring her best talents to the table in order to sift out the true Christmas Cookie culprit.

My Thoughts

Beacon Harbor, Michigan, idyllic because of its new bakeshop cafe inside the lighthouse with the most delicious variety of Christmas cookies around. Bakeshop owner Lindsey Bakewell is doing everything right and has an outstanding customer base but is she also hiding something when her cookie is the one found in the hand of the murder victim?
With business booming a few days before Christmas and supplies in the display cases running out daily, she simply can’t keep up even though she is known as the best baker around.
When she gets word of a Christmas cookie bake off competition, she knows she must join in. After all what cook/baker doesn’t want to prove they’re the best at their craft?
Boy was the competition judge a slimeball! He flirted and more with the ladies in the competition and they thought they’d win because of it. This competition really pits the competitors against one another, and they take it very seriously.

Now when the judge is found dead under the mistletoe with a note on him and Lindsey’s competition cookie in his hand it seems pretty obvious who his killer is. There are a lot of suspects and Lindsey is out to super sleuth her way out of this one, she can’t have her reputation going down the drain. This kept me guessing as there were so many who would have had a reason to do this to the judge I found out as I was reading.

While this was a cozy mystery that I really enjoyed, I also enjoyed reading about all the Christmas baking as well. The many, many varieties of sugary delicious treats kept me reading and imagining myself making some of these for holiday treats. I enjoyed this book a lot and will read the next in the series soon.

About The Book

The crisp fragrance of pine trees and the warm spice of fresh cookies aren’t the only blessings that Christmas brings, and no one knows more about happy homecomings than three couples who are celebrating the greatest gift of all . . .

BUGGIES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES * Shelley Shepard Gray
Called home by family, John Miller and Ellie Coblentz are each looking for a way north from Pinecraft, Florida. With few options, they decide sharing the burden of travel must be the Lord’s plan for them. But can this bumpy, bad-weather journey home help them find their way into each other’s hearts, too?

STAR OF WONDER * Charlotte Hubbard
When Raymond Overholt comes to Promise Lodge, hoping to sell the barnboard signs he’s painted with stars and Christmas messages, spirited young Mennonite Lizzie Zehr is intrigued. But any courtship between them will face fierce opposition from the bishop of Raymond’s Old Order community—unless someone can convince him that at the heart of faith lies love . . .

STARLIGHT EVERLASTING * Rosalind Lauer
Newlyweds Rachel and Luke Coblentz can’t wait to celebrate their first Christmas together after years of courtship. But when Luke’s factory job threatens to keep them apart—from each other and their dream of a family—it will take faith to believe in the gift of a truly joyful ending . . .

My Thoughts

Such beautiful writing here. Seasonal stories covering Thanksgiving and Christmas. The common theme in each story is a star, whether it may be a decoration, Christmas star cookies, stars in the sky or a lit-up star in a Christmas play. I have read books by all of the authors and enjoyed them.

Charlotte Hubbard’s collection piece is part of the Promise Lodge series which I enjoy very much. Each story has Amish couples going through some troubles but in the end it’s sorted. These couples are trying to go home for the holidays, but we end up seeing home is wherever you are with family and friends.

Filled with hope, love, faith and encouragement, the perfect book for whenever you need a pick me up no matter the time of year.

Best friends try fake dating, how will it turn out? Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison

Previously published Nov 10, 2021 republished by Berkley June 6, 2023

Who would have thought I would be reading my first new Christmas book of the year in April but when you’re a member of Netgalley I guess you just never know.

About The Book

Two best friends fake date to reach their holiday happily ever after in this first romantic comedy in the Lovelight series.

A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom’s dreams.

In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she’s loved since she was a kid, Stella enters a contest with Instagram-famous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, Stella might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There’s just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on her application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only…there is no boyfriend.

Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just stopped by for some hot chocolate and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process. But fake dating his best friend might be the best Christmas present he’s ever received.

My Thoughts

Lovelight Farms, Stella and her mom used to go there when she was a child. She remembered it as a magical winter wonderland. A place to pick out the perfect Christmas tree, drink hot chocolate and skate on the pond.
Wanting to recreate this happiness after her mother passes, she buys the farm not knowing anything about running a Christmas tree farm. When things on the farm start being sabotaged, dying trees, deliveries not coming in, etc. She doesn’t understand. As the debt mounts, well she doesn’t even want to think about that.
When an opportunity comes around for her Christmas tree farm to get a lot of attention if a popular influencer comes to the farm and puts in a good word she grabs onto this idea and won’t let go.
On the application she turns in she puts she owns the farm with her boyfriend, except she doesn’t have one. This is where Luka comes in, they have been besties since childhood, and it shouldn’t be too hard to take this best friend thing to the next level. a fake romance. What happens when your bestie what’s to take it to the level of no return and turn this fake relationship into the real thing?
Tender, slow burn romance, friends to lovers. Charming romance with all the holiday joy you need.
Can’t wait to get started on the rest of the series now. For a debut author this is exceptionally good!

About The Book

The sleepy Somerset village of Roseford is the temporary home for the cast and crew of the latest Christmas movie, and there’s excitement in the air. When Lucy Cameron, the owner of Roseford Café, is asked to fulfil a last-minute catering order on set, she can’t believe her luck.

Lucy’s erstwhile teenage crush, Finn Sanderson, is the star of the film, alongside his glamorous co-star, Montana de Santo, with whom he has been linked on and off the screen, and their sprinkle of stardust around the village is intoxicating.

With Christmas approaching and the snow starting to fall, Lucy’s path keeps crossing with Finn’s, and she starts to get to know the man behind the movie star. As her feelings grow, so too do Lucy’s reservations about even considering becoming involved with someone so well-known. And when Lucy finds herself at the centre of a social media storm, her fears seem to be justified.

Are happy-ever-afters just the preserve of Christmas movies, or could Lucy and Finn star in their very own festive love story…

My Thoughts

Winter Kisses at Roseford Café is book 2 of 3 in the Roseford series.
I love this author’s writing; her rom coms are so much fun to read. A perfectly festive book for a relaxing escapist read day. Fans of happy endings and feel-good books will love it.
Lucy is a cafe owner and while on location actor Finn meets Lucy and a romance starts.
I enjoyed Lucy’s character she seemed friendly enough. Christmas wishes must come true as a catering order causes her to meet up with Finn. Amidists the sparkling falling snow and the falling temperatures things are heating up with Lucy and Finn as a once in a lifetime chance at a romance with her teen heartthrob. I also liked Finn’s character, he did seem sincere in wanting to date Lucy and not just pass his time while on set. There was a bit of angst in the book and I thought they may break up from it but it got squared away. The Rosewood Cafe sounds like a very lovely place to go, I do believe I’d enjoy it. Relaxing stories of romance, friendship, and family that you’re going to love!

About The Author

Hello!

Thanks for taking the time to look at one of my books, and welcome to my Somerset world. Please do come in, look around and feel free to take a seat. Inside the covers of my books, you’ll find stories of romance, friendship, and family, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Somerset. I really hope you’ll lose yourself among the rolling hills and quirky towns and villages of this gorgeous county, and find new friends who will share their lives and experiences with you. Good food, good company and a healthy smattering of passion can all be found within the pages of my novels – so be prepared to feel your heart thumping! While I write books that are linked by the places I write about, they work well as standalone novels as well as part of a series. You might find that a few familiar faces pop up across the stories, though, so keep your eyes peeled…

Thank you so much for looking – I hope you’re tempted to come and spend some time in the West Country!

Lots of love, Fay xx

Hello and welcome to my author page!

I’m so delighted to share my stories with you, which are all set in the beautiful county of Somerset, in the UK, where I’m lucky enough to live. I’ve written two trilogies of novels so far, all of which have heart-thumpingly romantic settings (some based in reality!) and characters you just want to see gain their happily ever after! My third series of novels is about to start, with the release of ‘New Beginnings At Roseford Hall’, releasing on 10th March 2022, so if you want to join me in the beautiful village of Roseford, please do preorder the first book now!

I’ve been working with Boldwood Books to bring you feelgood stories of romance and family life, set against the stunning backdrop of the Somerset countryside. When I’m not writing fiction, I’m a secondary school English teacher, a wife, a mother of two daughters and the keeper of a large, demanding Weimaraner dog called Bertie. I can often be found on the Strawberry Line, being dragged from pillar to post by either dog or children, and I’m only now coming to terms with the fact that some of my students, current and former, occasionally read my novels.

I’m proud to be a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association. If you’d like to keep up to date with my writing and find out a little more about me (or my dog!), please subscribe to my newsletter here: http://bit.ly/FayKeenanNewsletter

A Bookshop Christmas, a bookish holiday read by Rachel Burton

416 pages Aria publisher Pub Date: 02 Sep 2021 original publish date September 2, 2018

About The Book

A snowstorm. A stranger. A spark. And it’s Christmas! It should be the perfect start to the perfect love story.

But real life is far messier and more complicated than in the pages of the books in Megan Taylor’s family bookshop – the last few years have left this young widow in no doubt of that. Moving back home to York should have been a fresh start, but all it did was allow her to retreat from the world.

When prize-winning author Xander Stone rams his supermarket trolley into her ankles and then trashes her taste in books, Megan is abruptly awoken from her self-imposed hibernation. It’s time to start living again, and she’s going to start by putting this arrogant, superior – admittedly sexy – stranger in his place. Just as she is beginning to enjoy life again, the worst happens, and Megan begins to wonder if she should have stayed hidden away.

Because it turns out that falling in love again is about more than just meeting under the mistletoe…

My Thoughts

This really was a lovely book.
Megan’s family is running a bookshop and after her husband’s death she moves back to York to help them out with it. It’s been in her family since before her birth and because it’s now failing, she is sad to see an old standby will be going away when her parents sell it.
A Regency Christmas party is being planned along with Regency costumes, whatever types of foods they ate in the time period and lots of Jane Austen talks. Sounds like the place to be.
Popular author, Xander Stone is planning a book launch at her bookshop. His assistant is so overbearing. I’ll confess she is the only character I didn’t like. She needs to be the center of attention, talks loudly and knows everyone’s business. Grabbing snacks at the grocers the night before the book launch, she is run into with a trolly by a rude and grumpy guy. Heaven forbids, it turns out this is the famous author that shows up for the book launch. Makes you kind of gulp and laugh at the same time. After their rocky meeting things do settle down a bit and they get to talking. He’s lost his mother; she’s lost a spouse and he’s also divorced.
Neither quite ready to jump out of their sorrow they’re feeling for themselves yet, they do find out they have a lot in common. She was an assistant to author’s but gave it up to care for her ailing husband. She hasn’t realized how much she’s missed it until now when she starts working with Xander. In this enemies to lover’s trope, I enjoyed seeing how they encourage each other to come alive after grief. With a bit of drama added, because after all no relationship is smooth sailing with no misunderstandings. I devoured this book in one day and loved following along with Xander and Megan’s relationship.

Rachel Burton has been making up stories for as long as she can remember and always dreamed of being a writer until life somehow got in the way. After reading for a degree in Classics and another in English Literature she accidentally fell into a career in law, but eventually managed to write her first book on her lunch breaks. She loves words, Shakespeare, tea, The Beatles, dresses with pockets and very tall romantic heroes (not necessarily in that order) and lives with her husband and two cats in Yorkshire. A Bookshop Christmas was a finalist in the RNA Romantic Novel Awards 2022.
