The Blog Tag

I was tagged by Mybookworld24 for this blog tag. I’ve never been tagged before though I’ve certainly seen them around but not as often as before. Thanks for the tag, I think it’s pretty cool.

How did you come up with your blog name?

When I created my blog, I wanted a blog name representing me and what I am about. At the time I was a vegan and loved reading books. Though I am no longer a vegan, I am a vegetarian now and I certainly love books.

If your blog was a person (fiction or real), who would it be?

I can’t think of an actual person, but it would have to be someone representing me and my beliefs. It would be an animal lover, a vegetarian, someone who cared about their health and exercise, a lover of fun and good times but who also had a serious side, someone who puts a priority on family and who certainly can’t pass up a fabulous book and the opportunity to review it.

What helps you create new content if you feel like you need some inspiration?

I enjoy browsing through other’s blogs, especially other book blogs.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?

I’ve had multiple offers of people wanting to collaborate with me on my blog. While I very much enjoy reading other blogs, I also enjoy being a one-person team on my blog.

Is there anything more you wish you had or would like to learn as a blogger?

I would love to have more time for blogging so I could post more. I am still busy raising a family and all that entails so I often don’t get time to post until evening. I’d love to have time to do more memes and read more so I could post more book reviews, but my family is my priority.

Do you have a specific style of blogging?

I would like to mainly post book related items, but I do enjoy posting encouraging words and answering daily prompt questions which share a bit about my thoughts.

If I tag you, it means I’d love to see the answer to these questions on your blog. But only if you’d like to, please don’t feel pressured to do so. `

Blog Tour for Winter Magic on Railway Lane by Alison Sherlock

ABOUT THE BOOK

Winter Magic on Railway Lane

Join the residents of Railway Lane for one last magical adventure…

Globetrotting Libby Jacobs has lost her job but is looking forward to spending more time in her home village of Cranfield.

She dreams of turning her chocolate making hobby into something more permanent. There’s only one problem – Ethan Connolly.

Despite being soul mates growing up, Libby hasn’t been close to Ethan since their disastrous date at the school prom. But now he’s back and he has just what Libby needs… a large kitchen! But can they even bear to be in the same room together?

Ethan never stays in Cranfield too long as it reminds him of his parents’ terrible marriage. But when disaster strikes, he’s forced to stay and help realise his grandad’s dream of a Christmas train. Can the whole village help Ethan create a seasonal spectacular in time?

Can Libby confront her secrets and realise her dreams?

And can Ethan ever stop running from his past and trust his heart?

Perhaps the magic of winter on Railway Lane might just give Libby and Ethan a second chance after all.

MY THOUGHTS

I enjoy holiday books, and this one takes us through Halloween and Christmas. Having read one of the other books in the series I was familiar with some of the characters but always look forward to meeting new ones too.

I love the location this takes place in, so charming and how exciting to once again return to Railway Lane and its charming cottages. Being made redundant at work has Libby Jacobs with her feet firmly planted on the ground as she was an airline flight attendant and now, she’s not.

Returning home doesn’t leave her with a lot of down time as she had thought it would. She decides to pursue her dreams of becoming a chocolatier. Her former childhood friend and past love Ethan is also home again, and he has just what she needs, a large kitchen to pursue her dreams of chocolate making.

As memories surface from times past can this second chance at love really work or will it drift away like those first snowflakes? Reading about the steam engine and its resurrection was so much fun and it really makes me want to take a train trip.

We see a depth to the characters as they weigh their options and don’t just jump into getting back together again. The romance was sweet. I enjoyed the holiday descriptions. Though this is the last book in the series I look forward to seeing what the author will come out with next.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

You know you live in the country when…

So today after doing my morning chores I figured I’d relax in bed a bit and read. I have a bed pillow with arms and it’s very comfortable, I lean it against my headboard and sit up and read. My cat Iris jumps up and lays on top of the headboard. Today she did so while I was reading and she’s up there jumping around and I’m wondering what the heck is going on but I didn’t look because I was too engrossed in my book. So she jumps/falls down off the headboard scratching my neck and tried to go behind the bookcase in my room but doesn’t fit. I pull her out to see what’s going on and she has a mouse in her mouth. I’m thinking this mouse climbed up a cord I have next to the bed that goes from the ceiling to the floor. It has fairy lights on it. She runs off with said mouse in her mouth let’s it go and plays with it a bit then it comes to its senses and scampers off across my barefoot and into my walk-in closet. Less than an hour later I’m in my walk-in closet to get clothes for the day and I see a bird on the window sill inside my walk-in closet. I have my walk-in closet window open slightly for air and it was enough for said bird to land on the outside window sill and get inside. My cat Charlie was having a ball chasing the bird around my bedroom and walk-in closet so he was put in the bathroom so he wouldn’t hurt the poor little bird. I finally caught the bird and released it outside unharmed. We’ve had a snake in our house twice as well. Thank goodness not in the bedroom though. By the way did I tell.you I lived in the country? 😂

This is the type of bird that was in the house, a Wren.

Daily Prompt? Googling?

What was the last thing you searched for online? Why were you looking for it?

The last thing I looked up online was researching Buick Lacrosse transmission and engine problems. Well….. The car was making loud noises when acceleration was over 30 or 40 mph but then I was told it was because the car was driven in overdrive.

Hating the Cinnamon Roll CEO: A Sweet Enemies to Lovers Romcom

188 pages September 10, 2024 publication date ARC provided by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op

ABOUT THE BOOK

Is it rational to hate my billionaire boss because he’s too nice?

Maybe not.

However, it’s definitely rational to apply to become a billionaire stranger’s housewife so I can quit being a personal assistant.

When—in a shocking turn of events—I encounter billionaire scarcity and learn I’ve signed up to become my boss’s wife before Christmas, I backpedal so hard I’m liable to pull something.

Shame indeed my too nice boss picks this moment to blackmail me.

The agreement is simple: I date him; he pays off my crippling debt; I have until the end of November to decide whether or not I’m saying “I do.”

It’s one measly autumn, and then I’m free.

There’s no way I’ll fall in love before this contract’s up…

Even if Finnegan Marsh proves to be so much more than nice.

Hating the Cinnamon Roll CEO is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy with cozy autumn vibes, office romance, and plenty of closed-door sizzle.

~

Enjoy the other full-length books in the Cinnamon Rolls and Pumpkin Spice series, which can be read in any order:

Coffee Break with the Billionaire by Holly Kerr

The Friendly Fall by Kristine W Joy

MY THOUGHTS

Hating the Cinnamon Roll CEO is part of an Autumn themed rom com series consisting of eight books. So far, I’ve only read the first book. These are closed door romances.

This one is a billionaire romance, my first read of this type and I enjoyed the characters.
This is a bit of a twist around the mmc is usually the grump and the fmc is usually sunshiny. Our female main character, Marcella is an introverted grump and the (Cinnamon Roll) CEO, Finnegan is sunshiny.

The problem is Marcella finds Finn too outgoing, too sunshiny and too friendly. As the story progresses, we see both are strong characters and I enjoyed seeing their interactions.
Lovely autumn feeling with mentions of pumpkins, yummy desserts and oh so tantalizing autumn drinks.

I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.

THE AUTHOR

Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.

Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.

Love Begins at Golden Sands Bay: The perfect feel-good romantic read from Georgina Troy (The Golden Sands Bay Series Book 2)

251 pages Boldwood Books publisher March 2, 2023 publication date

ABOUT THE BOOK

Bella is happiest running her tiny antique business from the front room of her cottage on the Boardwalk.

To ensure she has enough income coming in, she also rents out two of her bedrooms to paying lodgers.

But she didn’t count on having a secret crush on Jack Collins, one of her lodgers and her best friend’s brother…

As if life wasn’t complicated enough, her world-travelling mother appears on her doorstep on the same evening that Jack’s ex-fiancée arrives on the Boardwalk determined to win him back.

Bella has a lot of thinking to do and soon discovers that not all gems sparkle.

So charming, what is not to love when you live in a brilliant cottage on the boardwalk overlooking the breathtaking sea. Going out your front door the sea spray cools you and the view is amongst the best you’ve ever seen.

Bella seems to be living the charmed life, a little antique business she runs out of the front room of her cottage and renting out a couple of rooms to boarders for supplemental income.
Life is great, she’s wonderful friends, since childhood with Jack, her best friends’ brother.

Would it be weird to start to have romantic feelings for him? Would he think it was weird? Would she lose her friendship with her best friend? Ugh, so much to think about, should she try to take that first step?

When something unexpected happens in her family will she embrace the changes, or will it be a hinderance to all she has accomplished so far?
A heartwarming rom com about the choices you make not only affecting yourself but those closest to you.

Warmth, family, choices, personal growth and friendships all blossom in the gorgeous book.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

My latest series set on a fictional farm on the island is my Hollyhock Farm series. Welcome to Hollyhock Farm came out in May 2024 and Second Chances at Hollyhock Farm will be out on 16 November, with a third book following in 2025.

Stand by Me: A Sweet and Wholesome Christian Romance (Family Is Forever Book 3)

255 pages Sourcebooks publisher Publication dateNovember 2, 2021

ABOUT THE BOOK

Acclaimed inspirational African American romance author Pat Simmons brings you a love story filled to the brim with everything you’re looking for:

  • Emotional, poignant fiction that explores what it means to take care of family
  • Christian romance that delves into the connection between two people
  • An uplifting story about embracing love and giving others—and yourself—one more chance

When it comes to being a caregiver, Kym Knicely has been there and done that. Then she meets Charles “Chaz” Banks and soon learns that every caregiving situation is different. Chaz takes care of his seven-year-old autistic granddaughter, Chauncy. Although Kym’s attraction to Chaz is strong, she has to decide whether a romantic relationship can survive and thrive between two people at different stages in life. It’s a journey with a different set of rules that Kym has to play by if she and Chaz are to have their happily ever after and the faith and family they envision.

MY THOUGHTS

A wonderful story, filled with the goodness of faith, family and acceptance.
An older gentleman is the caregiver of his granddaughter, who is autistic. Many grandparents are not done raising children as they’re doing it all over again with their grandchildren.

Kym is a career woman, childless and at a very different stage in her life than Charles. Meeting each other as they start spending more time together, they wander if a relationship could become a possibility with how different they are.

A clean, Christian romance that I enjoyed. The cover is so appealing to me as well especially with Fall right around the corner.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.

Blog Tour for The Forgotten Italian Restaurant by Barbara Josselsohn Books On Tour.

ABOUT THE BOOK

taly, 1943. The girl rushes down the winding streets, tucking the handwritten menu into the wicker basket and thinking only of the code hidden on the delicate paper. Will anyone forgive her for what she’s about to do to save the man she loves?

Present day. Arriving in sun-drenched Caccipulia, Callie grips the faded restaurant menu in trembling hands. Found hidden in her family home, she is certain it will lead her to the truth about her grandmother’s life in Italy during World War Two. Why did her Nonna run away from this beautiful small town, never to return? Lost and alone in the world, could it help Callie understand who she is?

Local café owner Oliver’s dark brown eyes light up when he sees the menu. During the war, one brave family secretly fed desperate Jewish families hidden in safe houses through the village. Callie’s heart soars at the thought that her own dear grandmother was involved.

Diving into the town’s history during long walks down cobbled streets, Callie begins to feel at home under Oliver’s soft gaze. She wonders if she could build a life here with him. Until they push aside magenta flowers on a monument at the heart of the village, and uncover a secret that changes everything…

A grave mistake was made one dark night as the Nazis stalked the village, putting the whole town in terrible danger. When Callie finds out what her grandmother did, will it change the way Oliver feels about her? Will she stay and right the wrongs of the past, or be forced to leave Italy too, just like her Nonna?

A heartbreaking love story that will sweep you away to sun-drenched Italian vineyards to watch hope and bravery prevail in the darkest days of war. For fans of Kristin Hannah, Victoria Hislop and Fiona Valpy.

MY THOUGHTS

Having read the other two books in the series I was looking forward to the youngest sister’s story and this one did not disappoint. So well researched I feel as though I was walking amongst the characters experiencing what they have. This poignant dual timeline will have you not able to put it down while experiencing many emotions as you read. The ending was superb, the light shines through in such a beautiful way! I loved this book! Recommended for all historical fiction readers.

Daily Prompt: Names are important

Where did your name come from?

A name is an important thing that we have to live with day in and day our. It’s something we’re kind of stuck with and not many of us legally change. Though my parents divorced when I was just a few months old and I never knew my dad I was named Aprul after his birth month of April. Note the changed spelling my mom gave it. Can’t say I’m too fond of it and I go by my middle name Deanne.
