Bookouture Blog Tour for The Paris Maid by Ella Carey

About The Book

Paris, 1944. “Traitor!” yells the crowd as they push me down onto a stool. “Nazi collaborator.” Tears blur my vision as the razor grazes my scalp, waves of blonde hair falling to the ground. As men paint a swastika across my face, I hold onto one small glimmer of hope. They have no idea who I am.

Louise Basset works as a housemaid at The Ritz Hotel, home to the most powerful Nazis in France. As she changes silk sheets and scrubs sumptuous marble bathtubs, she listens and watches, reporting all she can to the Resistance. The only secret she never tells is her own.

Everything changes for Louise on the day a young Allied pilot, hunted by the Nazis, is smuggled into the hotel. As he and Louise share a small carafe of red wine hidden amongst her cleaning bottles, she feels her heart begin to open. But if Louise trusts someone with the truth, what will happen?

Years later, her granddaughter Nicole looks up at the ornate façade of the infamous Paris hotel. She is reeling from her recent discovery: a black-and-white photograph of her grandmother as a young woman, head shaved, branded a traitor. Devastated by her new legacy and about to start a family of her own, Nicole searches for answers.

When a French historian calls Louise by a different name, Nicole realizes there must be more to her grandmother’s story. Was the woman who taught Nicole so much about family and loyalty a resistance fighter, or will her granddaughter have to live with the knowledge that she is descended from a traitor? And will Nicole be able to finally move forward with her life if she can uncover the truth?

An utterly heart-shattering and gripping novel about love, betrayal and how one courageous young woman paid a terrible price to save those she loved. From top-ten bestseller Ella Carey, fans of Fiona Valpy, The Nightingale and Rhys Bowen will never forget The Paris Maid.

My Thoughts

I just love Ella Carey’s historical fiction books.
The author writes with such passion you can tell how well researched the book is as well. Based on some actual people and events and I love how realistic this makes the books she writes.
This is a dual timeline book taking place in Paris 1944 and modern times.
Modern times, Nicole a young woman ready to start her own family is a happy woman. A shocking discovery about a woman she thought she knew so well has her taken aback.
A young woman stares back at her from a black and white photo, the face so familiar, the features so like her own. It’s her grandmother, head shaved, tears in her eyes and branded a traitor. Nicole is shocked and saddened.
With the help of a French historian Nicole makes discoveries about her grandmothers’ life when she was younger.
As a young woman she is a housemaid at the fancy Ritz Hotel, home to the most powerful Nazis in France. Right under their noses in their hotel a young Allied pilot, that the Nazis are searching for is someone Louise can open up to. As he’s hidden Louise feels just may be able to trust him with a secret. If this trust is misplaced it could mean her life though.
Absolutely heartbreaking! This story is just amazing and kept me in its grips. I couldn’t put it down.

Even in her grief, Harriet is determined to give her Grandpa and his neighbours a Christmas to remember. But her world is turned upside down when she sees Mack for the first time, and he begs her to give him a second chance…

Can Harriet forgive Mack and let him mend her broken heart? Or should she return to the safe life she came from?

Everyone LOVES Christmas by the Coast!

My Thoughts

Ready for a fun heartwarming story? Then may I suggest Christmas by the Coast? A fun feel good holiday read, perfect for anytime reading. Perfect for an afternoon escape read.

Just imagine the sandy beaches of Montauk, Long Island, the view, the crashing of the waves.
If only her old boyfriend, ex-soldier Mack Wyatt wasn’t there and more determined than ever to win her back.

Her priority while in the Hamptons is her grandfather and comforting him as he’s grieving the passing of her grandmother.
Harriet Cookson and Mack Wyatt were pen pals when he was off fighting in Afghanistan, but things moved on and Mack had a hard time adjusting to things that happened to him.

Fun, entertaining and emotional. This book has well-crafted characters, and I will be on the lookout for more by her.

A haunting legend. An ominous curse. A search for a secret buried deep within the castle walls. The Vanishing at Castle Moreau By Jamie Jo Wright

384 pages Bethany House publisher April 4, 2023 publish date

About The Book

In 1870, orphaned Daisy François takes a position as housemaid at a Wisconsin castle to escape the horrors of her past life. There she finds a reclusive and eccentric Gothic authoress who hides tales more harrowing than the ones in her novels. As women disappear from the area and the eerie circumstances seem to parallel a local legend, Daisy is thrust into a web that could ultimately steal her sanity, if not her life.

In the present day, Cleo Clemmons is hired by the grandson of an American aristocratic family to help his grandmother face her hoarding in the dilapidated Castle Moreau. But when Cleo uncovers more than just the woman’s stash of collectibles, a century-old mystery and the dust of the old castle’s curse threaten to rise again . . . this time to leave no one alive to tell the sordid tale.

Award-winning author Jaime Jo Wright seamlessly weaves a dual-time tale of two women who must do all they can to seek the light amid the darkness shrouding Castle Moreau.

My Thoughts

This book kept me glued to it all afternoon. I wasn’t even aware of time passing and read it in one day! Incredibly atmospheric and creepy. The author definitely knows how to set up the story and keep your attention the whole way through. You keep reading and won’t want to miss a single word.
There are several time frames here, they have similar stories, the women, but yet different.
The women live in Castle Moreau. There are dreadful rumors, mysterious events that they must try to figure out. They feel as though they are losing their sanity as they start to doubt themselves and what they know. What secrets will be uncovered within the dust and despair of Castle Monteau? I was totally captivated and could not put this down.

To Capture His Heart (Proper Romance Victorian) Matchmakers #2 by Nancy Allen

288 pages Shadow Mountain Publishing October 28,2022 publication date

About The Book

Seaside, England 1886

Eva Caldwell is an accomplished and well-known photographer who often works with the local constabulary to assist in documenting crime scenes, which means she also often works alongside the handsome and charming Detective Nathan Winston. She appreciates his intellect and how he treats her like an equal, but Eva’s heart is still healing from a past relationship, so, for now, she decides to keep her feelings for Nathan a secret.

One evening, Nathan arrives on her doorstep asking for a personal favor. Would Eva be available to photograph his mother’s legendary, week-long dinner party and matchmaking event? The catch is that Eva would also have to pretend they are courting in order for Nathan to avoid the many single women seeking his attention.

Though wary of the charade, Eva agrees. Spending a week with the two things she loves most―her detective and her camera―sounds simple enough. And if she wants to imagine that Nathan’s pretend courtship of her is real, well, what’s the harm in that?

But when a criminal from Nathan’s past threatens revenge on the detective, Nathan must be extra vigilant to keep his mother and the rest of the partygoers safe. He confides in Eva, and as the two work together to solve the mystery and apprehend the criminal, they find that they might capture more than they expected―each other’s heart.

My Thoughts

I just love this series, and this is Matchmakers #2.
You can’t go wrong with the combination of historical mystery and romantic suspense.
Having worked professionally with Nathan Winston who is a detective, Eva Caldwell has worked with him and the constable documenting crime scenes with her photography.
When his mother decides to have a weeklong dinner party and matchmaking session, she needs a photographer and he knows just who to get for the job, if she’ll agree to it. Yes, you guessed it, Eva. It’ll be easy he says, she just has to pretend he is courting her so the matchmaking ladies at the event won’t look his way because he’ll be “taken.”
And for Eva when the pretend courting starts to feel all too real, well is she really to blame when he has the most charming personality and is so handsome?
When danger from Nathan’s past creeps up he and Eva have to be extra vigilant to keep themselves and the other guests safe all the while solving a mystery and perhaps falling in love.
I love how the author weaves intriguing mystery and history with a well told and fast paced story.

Another book in the Lighthouse Library series by Eva Gates, Deadly Ever After

298 pages Crooked Lane Books Publisher May 11, 2021 publish date

About The Book

Librarian Lucy’s wedding is at stake when a murder interrupts her engagement celebrations. To make it down the aisle, she’ll have to find the killer to save the date in the 8th book in the Lighthouse Library mysteries.

They’re getting married! Lucy Richardson and Connor McNeil have announced their engagement. Their friends throw a party for the couple at Coquina Beach, close to Lucy’s beloved Bodie Island Lighthouse Library.

As they’re packing up the presents and the (few) leftovers from Josie’s Cozy Bakery, who should arrive, but Richard Eric Lewiston III, Lucy’s former almost-fiancé and his overbearing mother Evangeline. Push comes to love when Evangeline makes no secret of why she’s here: to get Lucy and Ricky back together.

Lucy isn’t temped in the least, and Ricky is nothing but embarrassed at his mother’s desperate ploy. Before returning to Boston Evangeline throws a dinner party at Jake’s Seafood Bar for a reluctant Lucy and her family. Lucy hopes to get the dinner over with and see Evangeline and Ricky returning to Boson. But when a body is found at the restaurant’s kitchen door, Lucy is again forced to unwillingly put on her detective’s hat and do what she can to save her family and her engagement. Meanwhile, the classic novel reading club is reading The Hound of the Baskervilles, and open war breaks out in the Lighthouse Library when Lucy agrees to temporarily take care of a dog named Fluffy, but Charles the library cat has other ideas.

My Thoughts

I will have to admit really enjoying reading the Lighthouse Library series.
I did read them out of order though reading more current ones in the series before this one but now I have answers on a few things and how they happened from more current books.
One thing that really makes it in this book is it taking place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. For those of you who've visited there you know what I'm talking about. It's such a beautiful, relaxing area. A lighthouse with offices, a living area and a library? Yes please! I actually visited the lighthouse portrayed in this story and it's still in operation though sad to say it's not large enough to house all the extras. It was worth climbing the over 200 stairs for the view though. In this one Lucy and Connor announce their engagement and get shown a house on the Outer Banks that they decide to buy. If you'll remember in a more current book I reviewed, they discover this house is haunted and the body of an unknown to them man is found in it.
After a celebratory night at a Seafood Bar a body is found at the restaurants' kitchen door. Lucy once again dons her sleuthing hat and gets to work. There are many references to The Hounds of Baskerville as this is what the classic book club is reading. When Lucy decides to temporarily watch a little yappy dog, well let's just say Charles the library cat makes a quick disappearance.
The dog does play an important role in the story though, it would probably surprise you how it does. The outcome surprised me. Quick paced, I read this in an afternoon, and I'll be looking forward to the upcoming release.

In this uplifting inspirational romance series, award-winning author Amy Lillard unites a “Widows Club” of women who share solace, friendship, faith—and mouthwatering Whoopie Pies—in the Amish community of Paradise Valley, Missouri. Will appeal to fans of Charlotte Hubbard, Molly Jebber, Susan Lantz Simpson, and Kelly Long.

At the heart of a Missouri Amish community, a circle of caring friends—the Widows’ Club of Paradise Valley—sees each other through life’s storms, in this uplifting series from award-winning author Amy Lillard . . .

Joy Lehman has pressed on faithfully since losing her husband, raising their children and running a thriving bakery alone. Until then, a meeting of the Widows’ Club at her home makes it clear that Joy must consider some costly renovations. Her brother-in-law, Uriah, is happy to provide the lumber and the labor—if Joy will accept his help.

Uriah understands family challenges—he’s a widower himself, and father to four daughters. As Uriah’s daughters begin helping in the bakery, and Joy and Uriah’s bond grows deeper, a new possibility glows bright—the unexpected happiness that lies in embracing one strong, united family, filled with support and love . . .

“Readers will delight in this sweet love story and stay hungry for the next installment.”
Publishers Weekly on Marry Me, Millie

My Thoughts

I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book.
It was such a powerful and uplifting that I felt so good while I was reading it and even afterwards.
In this third book in the Paradise Valley series the “Whoopie Pie Widow’s Club,” a group of widowed women whom Joy is a part of help each other and others in need in the community in their time of need. In Joy's case she has a wheelchair bound son who is bitterly disappointed when doctors tell him he'll never walk again.
I just loved Joy's character, after her husband's death she has to support her children and she works long, exhausting hours in her home bakery, with very little help.
Widower Uriah, who happens to be her brother-in-law is contacted by the Widowers club to help with some home improvements at Joy's home to accommodate her son's wheelchair.
Joy and Uriah both being widowed with children have challenges in their daily lives but do have a positive outlook on life. I loved seeing the children from each family become more involved with the other family in trying to bring their parents together. I very much enjoyed meeting Johnny, Joy's wheelchair bound son and hope we'll see an update on him in a future book.
There is support from each family member as the relationship between Joy and Uriah progresses and I think they know how the relationship will turn out before the couple does.
Such a positive and uplifting book that I was happy to have read.

The Author

Amy loves nothing more than a good book. Except for her family...and maybe homemade tacos...and nail polish. But reading and writing are definitely high on the list.

Born and bred in Mississippi, Amy is a transplanted Southern Belle who now lives in Oklahoma with her deputy husband, their genius son, two spoiled cats, and one very lazy beagle. Oh, and don't forget the stray kitty that has taken up residence on her front porch. ^..^

When she's not creating quirky characters and happy endings, she's chauffeuring her prodigy to guitar lessons, orchestra concerts and baseball practice. She has a variety of hobbies, but her favorite is whatever gets her out of housework.

Amy also writes contemporary romances under the pen name Amie Louellen.

An award-winning author, Amy is a member of RWA and ACFW. She loves to hear from readers. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram, Google+, Twitter, Goodreads, and Pinterest. For links to the various sites, check her website: www.amylillardbooks.com.

I thought I was hiding the truth to protect us. But now as I lie in this hospital ward, my life hanging in the balance, blinking in the bright white lights, all I can think about is how that man, your dad, could be your only hope… but how can I save us when it already seems too late? My Thoughts

A Child’s Goodbye is emotional and heart wrenching. Keep the tissues at the ready!
The author delves into questions we are afraid to ask ourselves, who will take care of our child if we are unable to?
A shy child lives with his single mother, he doesn’t have many friends, is teased at school but is starting to show some independence from his mother. Depending on his mother to pick him up at the school gates 5 days a week, when she doesn’t one day his stress is evident as he waits in the school office for word on what to do. Receiving word his mother has been in an accident on her way to pick him up causes a change not only in his life but his mother’s as well.
His mother is hiding a secret, she won’t say who her son’s father is and it has caused her to be estranged from her own mother.
Being in the hospital has given her plenty of time to think back on the past and about her son. She loves him desperately and only wants the best for him.
She comes to the realization that visiting the past and setting things straight will cause her to progress in the future.
Well-developed characters that blossom and grow as the story progresses.

About The Author

Ali decided she wanted to be a writer early on and wrote her first novel when she was at primary school. She did an English degree and spent her early twenties working in various jobs in journalism, including as a reporter for the showbusiness newspaper The Stage. She started writing fiction in earnest after getting married, moving out of London to the Oxfordshire market town of Abingdon and starting a family. She has two children, a daughter and a son who is autistic and was diagnosed when he was four years old.

Ali is fascinated by families, their myths and secrets, and the forces that hold them together, split them up and (sometimes) bring them back together again. She always travels with tissues and a book and has been known to cry over a good story, but is also a big fan of the hopeful ending.

Bookouture Blog Tour for My Grandmother’s Inn by Kristin Harper

About The Book

My Grandmother’s Inn: A totally gorgeous and gripping page-turner by Kristin Harper

Periwinkle-blue flowers spill over the picket fence, framing the simple wooden sign that reads Hydrangea House. But Molly’s eyes fill with tears. Her grandmother Beverley used to stand right there in the doorway, ready to welcome guests. Now Beverley is gone, will the inn close forever?

Grieving and newly single Molly Anderson begs the wealthy Frost family, owners of Hydrangea House, to allow her to run the inn for one last summer before they shut it down. She vows to give the final guests a summer to remember by the sea. It’s what Beverly—who worked uncomplainingly for the Frosts her whole life—would have wanted.

But when an elderly woman checks in claiming to know a secret about Beverly’s true connection to the Frost family, everything Molly knows about her beloved grandmother is called into question. The woman says that a message in a bottle hidden somewhere at Hydrangea House, will not only reveal the truth, but could stop the Frosts’ plan in its tracks.

Desperate to do whatever she can to save Hydrangea House, Molly combs the inn from attic to basement, helped by visiting oceanographer Matt. She could never get involved with a guest, but Matt’s kindness as he listens to her worries, and the way his deep brown eyes keep locking with hers are hard to ignore…

But as they fill their summer with searching, rumors and bad reviews about Molly start to spread. By delving into the mystery of the past, has she shattered any chance of the inn’s future? Can Matt be trusted, or is he more closely linked to the Frost family than she thought? And when she finally unlocks the secret about her grandmother, will it bring Molly peace—or tear her apart?

An absolutely gorgeous read about learning to trust, the meaning of home, and the importance of family. Fans of Debbie Macomber, Carolyn Brown and Mary Alice Monroe will be captivated.

Buy link: https://geni.us/B0BRY6CPWRsocial

My Thoughts

Once again, we are back on Dune Island where the ocean view is breathtaking, and the scent of flowers relaxes the mind. For many years innkeeper Beverley’s gentle and kind spirit has welcomed and made guests feel right at home at Hydrangea House, owned by the wealthy Frost family.

Devastated by her grandmother’s death Molly begs the family for one last summer to have that connection with her grandmother and run the inn.
When an elderly woman who is a guest claims to have known Beverly her entire life and the family since her childhood reveals a secret it brings into question everything Molly thinks she knows about her family leading to a DNA test.

The Frost family plans on closing the inn after the current season which leaves Molly devastated.
Can an old bottle with a message in it written many years ago stop this plan if it’s actually found?

As much as she wants to keep her grandmother’s spirit alive through running the inn she’s not really much of an innkeeper and the bad reviews filter in. The characters, I absolutely adored them and was rooting for them.

This book had me hooked, I simply couldn’t put it down. A summer spent searching for a missing bottle has Molly wondering if she can trust inn guest Matt whom she feels a connection with. Family connections, learning to trust and a totally intriguing read that’ll pull you right in. I absolutely loved this book.
