Where The Road Bends by Rachel Fordham-Review

My Review

What an absolutely incredibly eye opening book.
I am loving that it takes place in Iowa as well. (My daughter lives there.)
This book is about hope, dreams, forgiveness, strength, compassion, understanding and faith.
We seem to all start out with dreams and so many times things don’t go as we plan and we give up.
Dreams here go astray as well and our main characters, whom I just love by the way are flexible and change with their dreams. Their relationship is strong, nurtured by faith, love, compassion, strength and really listening to what each other as to say and adjusting the relationship with this.
Dreams change and need to be nurtured. What was important at one time may no longer as important but we give love and respect to new dreams coming in.
I absolutely loved seeing the child in this book going from a street urchin to a well behaved, secure in his surroundings, part of a family person.
The growth we see in the characters is fantastic. Heartwarming book. I do believe this is my favorite the author has written. It’s a very strong story.

GoodReads Synopsis

As Norah King surveys her family land in Iowa in 1880, she is acutely aware that it is all she has left, and she will do everything in her power to save it–even if that means marrying a man she hardly knows. Days before her wedding, Norah discovers an injured man on her property. Her sense of duty compels her to take him in and nurse him back to health. Little does she realize just how much this act of kindness will complicate her life and threaten the future she’s planned.

Norah’s care does more than aid Quincy Barnes’s recovery–it awakens his heart to possibilities. Penniless and homeless, he knows the most honorable thing he can do is head on down the road and leave Norah to marry her intended. But walking away from the first person to believe in him proves much harder than he imagined.

Rachel Fordham invites you to experience the strength and beauty of love forged in the crucible of hardship in this heartwarming story.

About The Author

Rachel Fordham has long been fascinated by all things historical or in the words of her children “old stuff”. Often the historical trivia she discovers is woven into her children’s bedtime tales. Despite her love for good stories she didn’t attempt writing a novel until her husband challenged her to do so (and now she’s so glad he did). Since that time she’s often been found typing or researching while her youngest child naps or frantically writing plot twists while she waits in the school pick-up line. In addition to her passion for storytelling she enjoys reading, being outdoors and seeing new places. Rachel lives with her husband and children on an island in Washington state.

The Beach Trap by Ali Brady-Review

This is so much more than just a Summer beach read!

My Review

Based on the cover I was expecting a light, summer beach read with a little romance thrown in and I was okay with that. You know, one of those books that’s good while you’re reading it but so easily forgotten.
What I got was a whole lot more.
Oh my, this book is so heartwarming and full of emotion.
As preteens two girls go to the same summer camp and become best friends,do everything together and promise to stay best friends for life. While at the camp the girls come to realize they have the same father so they’re half-sisters. Feeling betrayed, hurt and confused they break off all contact with each other and these feelings have years to fester.
Years later they learn their father has left his beach house to both of them.
Now these two sisters couldn’t be more different, one is a star influencer, polished, highly fashionable, always on and ready to take that filtered photo for her adoring fans. The other is down to earth, sensible and ready to get the job done, whatever job that may be.
The stipulation is the girls can not just sell the beach house but how can they possibly get along to make the decisions concerning the fixing up of the beach house when they can’t even carry on a normal conversation without screaming at each other?
From one fiasco to the next from guy trouble to fashion mishaps and home improvement flops can the sisters learn how to be civil to each other?
I enjoyed seeing the relationship between the sisters growing and changing.
There is so much family heartache and misunderstanding and blame that finally comes to light.
Through an olive branch being extended and many talks and tears there is light ahead.
Very heartwarming. I’ll be reading this one again!

GoodReads Synopsis

Two best friends torn apart by a life-altering secret. They have one summer to set the record straight.

When twelve-year-olds Kat Steiner and Blake O’Neill meet at Camp Chickawah, they have an instant connection. But everything falls apart when they learn they’re not just best friends—they’re also half-sisters. Confused and betrayed, their friendship instantly crumbles.

Fifteen years later when their father dies suddenly, Kat and Blake discover he’s left them a joint inheritance: the family beach house in Destin, Florida. The two sisters are instantly at odds. Blake, who has recently been demoted from regular nanny to dog nanny, wants to sell the house, while social media influencer Kat is desperate to keep the place where she had so many happy childhood memories.

Kat and Blake reluctantly join forces to renovate the dilapidated house with the understanding that Kat will try to buy Blake out at the end of the summer. The women clash as Blake’s renovation plans conflict with Kat’s creative vision, and each sister finds herself drawn into a summer romance. As the weeks pass, the two women realize the most difficult project they face this summer will be coming to grips with their shared past, and learning how to become sisters.

Written On The Wind (The Blackstone Legacy #2) Book Review

My Review

Though this is the second book in a series it can very easily be read as a stand alone.
I have read all of the author’s books, I won’t miss one but this book takes historical fiction to a whole new level.
I love her books for how well researched they are and give me as many details as possible please.
There are historical books that are great that are similar to many others out there. This author’s books shine in their own way because they have original story lines not the same ones many other authors use.
How about topics of Trans-Siberian Railway, the launching of prerecorded wax discs, and a woman who is the lead analyst for her father’s New York banking empire and manages their investment in the Trans-Siberian Railway. Now you have to remember this is during the early 1900’s when women were not easily accepted in these fields and expected to stay home and let the men take care of it all.
Very strong character development. I enjoyed reading history about Russia and about their culture.
Very interesting book. I look forward to the next book as this one is incredible!

To Tame A Cowboy (Colorado Cowboys #3)by Jody Hedlund-Book Review

My Review

The author writes in many genres and excels at all of them.
I have read all of the books in this series, all wonderful but this one is my favorite.
Brody is a broken man from his time spent in the Civil War and what he blames himself for being unable to do.
Spending time with his little niece relaxes him and makes him feel whole again.
Though he may not show it outwardly he has a tender heart , especially when it comes to the wild horses in the area who are being killed by local ranchers when their cattle don’t have enough of the lush grass for grazing.
Despite no formal training Savannah Marshall has vet smarts after working with a trained veterinarian for many years.
Wanting to please her father she agrees to marry a man of his choosing but decides against it at the last minute and runs away.
Not having a destination in mind she gets to town and sees a horse being terribly mistreated and rushes to treat it. Two tender hearts meet then, Brody with his love of animals and Savannah with her doctoring knowledge and her love of animals.
Savannah is on the run and her family wants her back but will love be able to run wild and free like the horses when she is found or will her heart be caged?
We also get a glimpse of Brody’s sister in this story, she will not be held back. She is free spirited and I love her personality.
I’ll bet there will be a book telling her story soon and I can’t wait to read it.
I loved this book!

It Started With A Kiss by Lisa Hobman-Blog Tour

I really enjoyed this book. I hope you get a chance to read it as well. I know you’ll love it!

Just Look at that gorgeous cover!

My Review

Once I started It Started With A Kiss I just could not stop. The characters are so charming, so likable,so realistic you can’t help but want the best for them!
Fin and Star don’t have a lot of self-confidence but what they have when they start talking and getting to know each other can’t be beat. They bring out the best and brightest in each other and their happiness will now shine.
This is my first book by this author and I really have enjoyed reading her writing style, it makes it very easy to understand the story and the pacing was perfect.
With such different personalities and backgrounds the characters have you would have thought the characters wouldn’t get on but they have an understanding and compassion for each other’s situations and get on fabulously.
Brilliantly written, I can’t wait to see what else this author has out!

The Lights of Sugarberry Cove by Heather Webber-Review

My Review

This is the first book I have read by Heather Webber and now I am wondering why I’ve waited so long.
You could say Sugarberry Cove is a place of magic, a place of new beginnings.second chance relationships. Sisters, Sadie Way Cross and Leala Clare do not have the best relationship with their mother, she raised them as a single parent while running a bed and breakfast on the shores of the lake. After almost drowning there years ago Sadie moves away wanting no reminders of her time there.
The story will give you all the feels as you read about Sadie coming back to Sugarberry when her mother has a heart attack. She may not even admit it to herself but Sadie actually missed Sugarberry and reminisces about good times there.
Leala never left Sugarberry, instead staying there, marrying and having a child.
Sadie assumes she is happy there and all is well, but is it?
Dealing with mending relationships and they really talk , this mother and daughters based book is brimming with love, compassion and truths revealed you won’t want to miss, The Lights of Sugarberry Cove.

The Lights of Sugarberry Cove is a charming, delightful story of family, healing, love, and small town Southern charm by USA Today bestselling author Heather Webber.

Sadie Way Scott has been avoiding her family and hometown of Sugarberry Cove, Alabama, since she nearly drowned in the lake just outside her mother’s B&B. Eight years later, Sadie is the host of a much-loved show about southern cooking and family, but despite her success, she wonders why she was saved. What is she supposed to do?

Sadie’s sister, Leala Clare, is still haunted by the guilt she feels over the night her sister almost died. Now, at a crossroads in her marriage, Leala has everything she ever thought she wanted—so why is she so unhappy?

The Watchmaker’s Daughter BY Dianne Haley- Blog Tour

Today I am excited to bring you my stop for The Watchmaker’s Daughter Blog Tour. A completely gripping and heart-wrenching novel about love and bravery in a time of terrible danger. Fans of The Alice Network, The Nightingale and We Were the Lucky Ones will be swept away by The Watchmaker’s Daughter.

My Review

Debut author Dianne Haley has written a superb book.
There have been many WWII books written and they are good but one that has a different topic covered such as this one really catches your attention.
What keeps your attention is the page after page reading of danger, heart wrenching heartbreak the characters face though not of their own causing. Such injustice done to children just trying to escape to a better life.
You get very invested in the character’s lives, holding your breath as you read the risks they are taking through espionage and secret communications.
France has fallen to the Nazi’s and Switzerland’s people know they could be next but a long time jeweler needs the business with the Germans to survive. As his daughter does bike deliveries for him she, unknown to her father ,smuggles messages for the French Resistance, hidden among his watch deliveries.
It is a huge risk she is taking but she does it while thinking of Philippe, her childhood sweetheart who is a soldier based in secret military fortresses in the mountains.
When unexpected danger strikes will she stay safe, will her father?
Highly recommended!

Good Reads Synopsis

I have to help them,’ Valérie says, her eyes filling with tears at the thought of the frightened children shivering in the rain and hiding from the Nazis. ‘I know you do,’ Philippe replies as he pulls her tight, ‘And I love you so much for that. But will you promise to be careful? Remember how precious your life is too?’

1942: Gazing out of her shuttered bedroom window towards the snow-covered Alps, Valérie Hallez feels like a traitor to her beautiful country. France has fallen to the Nazis, and everyone knows that Switzerland could be invaded next. But her father Albert is a local watchmaker who relies on German trade.
