1940, Bletchley Park: As I stand alone outside the imposing gates in the darkness of the night, I have no idea what lies ahead. All I have with me is a suitcase of clothes and a handful of letters from my fiancé. But I’m determined to fight in whatever way I can for freedom and for love…

Inspired by the unforgettable true story of the women of Bletchley Park, this utterly gripping novel of secrets, love and courage shines a light on the incredible wartime work that changed the course of history.

When Stefania Carmichael steps into the mysterious world of Bletchley Park, she immediately finds herself signing the Official Secrets Act. In whispers, she is told that she’s been recruited because of her talent for languages. Before the war ripped Europe apart, Stefania was living in Rome, charming everyone she met with her quick wit and sharp mind, and engaged to the man of her dreams, handsome and brave Matteo. And now everything has changed.

With secrets swirling around the building, Stefania finds it hard to know who to trust, until she forms a close bond with two other new recruits. Ailsa is a gifted radio operator and Fran a logistics genius, and the two women help Stefania navigate her new world of codebreaking. But even though Stefania’s skills are crucial to the war effort, her position is put in jeopardy when Italy joins the opposite side of the battle – and her beloved fiancé becomes the enemy.

Her heart belongs to Matteo, but she knows she must do whatever it takes to help England win the war. So when she is asked to go on a classified mission, she jumps at the chance. But it soon becomes clear there’s a traitor in their midst, and all eyes turn to her…

With her life at stake, can she prove herself innocent and save the man she loves? Or will Stefania lose everything?

An absolutely addictive World War Two novel of friendship, betrayal and heartbreak. Perfect for fans of The Rose Code, The Alice Network and The Nightingale.

My Review

A must read, one of my favorite historical reads this year. I found it fascinating that this story is based on a heartbreaking true story. Taking place partly in Malta, which I have never seen a WW11 book taking place in we get a real feel for the area . I read it almost in one sitting, just couldn’t put it down. Full of courageous women who though they may have had daunting events happen they smartly climb their way to the top again. They will not be kept down. I admire these characters.
I haven’t read any history about Bletchley Park before and will be doing some more personal research on this. This book is absolutely fascinating and I highly recommend it . It will stay with me for a long time.

About The Author

Anna Stuart lives in Derbyshire with her campervan-mad husband, two hungry teenagers and a slightly loopy dog. She was hooked on books from the moment she first opened one in her cot so is thrilled to now have several of her own to her name. Having studied English literature at Cambridge university, she took an enjoyable temporary trip into the ‘real world’ as a factory planner, before returning to her first love and becoming an author. History has also always fascinated her. Living in an old house with a stone fireplace, she often wonders who sat around it before her and is intrigued by how actively the past is woven into the present, something she likes to explore in her novels. Anna loves the way that writing lets her ‘try on’ so many different lives, but her favourite part of the job is undoubtedly hearing from readers.

Bookouture Blog Tour for Lily’s Secret Inheritance by Kristin Harper

Book Description:

Turning off the winding coastal road and seeing the old farmhouse surrounded by cranberry vines ahead, Lily’s breath catches in her throat. It’s just how she remembers it. But pushing open the wooden front door for the first time in decades, it’s clear everything has changed…

When her estranged aunt Dahlia dies, single mother Lily Lindgren is surprised to inherit the family home and cranberry farm. Returning to Dune Island for the first time since Dahlia admitted to a terrible betrayal that shattered Lily’s trust in her family, she’s ready to sell up and finally create a stable future for her little boy. But her high-school crush and farm manager Jake Benson is determined to stop Lily’s plan…

After helping Dahlia turn part of the house into a local produce store, Jake shared her dream of making the cranberry farm a community hub for the island. His stories about Dahlia, and how much she had missed Lily all these years, make Lily question if she was wrong to never forgive her aunt. And when Jake joins her long walks over the sand dunes, there’s an undeniable spark… could a move to Dune Island be the key to her and her son’s happiness?

But then, clearing out Dahlia’s bedroom, Lily finds an old picture of Dahlia that stops her in her tracks. Just when she was making peace with Dahlia’s memory and learning to trust again, Lily’s heart is shattered to find she was keeping another secret. Can Lily trust Jake to tell her the painful truth—or will she run from Dune Island again for good?

An utterly beautiful beach read about family secrets, finding yourself, and learning the true meaning of home. Perfect for fans of Carolyn Brown, Barbara O’Neal and Mary Alice Monroe.

My Review

I absolutely love this author’s books and have read every one of them. They are the kind of book you’ll read for relaxation, automatic reads for me.
We visit a past and present time line. Family is important in this story. So charming, I loved the setting, characters and fast pace.
I enjoyed reading about the cranberry farm. A return home that she hasn’t been to since she was a teen has our main character looking at things in a new light. Things that seemed secretive are explained and forgiveness is key. Second chances makes for a fully satisfying book you won’t be able to put down until it’s over . Emotional read that reminds you not to jump to conclusions and make assumptions. Warm and relatable book that I highly recommend.

Bookouture Blog Tour for Second Chances at Brambleberry Creek

About The Book

Sometimes you need to fall to learn how to fly…

A totally addictive, heart-melting novel about the magic of friendship, family and making every day count, even when life takes an unexpected twist. Fans of RaeAnne Thayne, Elin Hilderbrand and Susan Mallery will love this page-turning story.

Amber Lee Taylor has lived in the close-knit town of Brambleberry Creek, Kentucky her whole life. And she thought she had everything figured out. But when Amber discovers her long-term fiancée, Grant, has been cheating, her perfect future shatters into tiny pieces…

Heartbroken, Amber retreats to her family’s crumbling farmhouse in the stunning countryside outside her little town. It’s her favourite place in the world. She loves the old oak beams and the smell of the fire crackling in the grate. But her family say the farm isn’t making enough money and they need to do something to save it…

Determined to forget Grant and save her family home, Amber throws herself into launching a new wine business with her cousins, and stumbles across one of her grandfather’s old notebooks.

Just as she realizes the size of her project, she discovers a family mystery weaving through her grandfather’s writing, and everything suddenly seems more complicated. But then, she hasn’t thought about Grant in days, and when she bumps into handsome, charming Callum on Main Street, Amber starts to wonder if breaking up with Grant could be the best thing that’s happened to her in years.

It feels good to spend time with a guy with such a kind and genuine heart, and as he helps her untangle the notebook’s secrets, she wonders if the key to the mystery might just be the key to saving her beloved farmhouse too.

But will Amber find the strength to make the most of her second chance? Or will crossing paths with Grant change everything again?

My Thoughts

This is the second book in the Brambleberry Creek trio. It was a total joy to be back amongst the friends I’ve met in Brambleberry Creek, Kentucky while reading, Home to Brambelberry Creek, the first book in this series.
The book is such a pure delight, so grab your hot coffee or sweet tea because once you start reading you won’t want to stop until you’re done.
Now Brambleberry has it’s ups and downs but these same folks will have your back any time you have a problem. This book has taken me on an emotional roller coaster. It has it’s share of drama and secrets, plenty of secrets and a big cliff hanger but it’s love, romance, understanding, caring, friendships, and down home cooking. The perfect get away read you need in your life right now. I absolutely will be reading the last book in the series as soon as I can.

Bookouture Blog Tour for Home to Brambleberry Creek by Elizabeth Bromke

I am so excited to tell you today about the book, Home to Brambleberry Creek. This is my first read by this author and once I picked it up, that was it, I simply couldn’t put it down. I now need to read the rest of the books by this author!

About The Book

Home to Brambleberry Creek: An absolutely gorgeous page-turner, filled with family secrets

Everyone has one moment that will change their life forever…

A completely heart-warming, emotional page-turner about finding your place in the world, the importance of family and the joy of discovering love when you least expect it. Perfect for fans of RaeAnne Thayne, Elin Hilderbrand and Susan Mallery.

Morgan Jo Coyle has been trying to escape her past for the last five years. She’s built a successful career for herself in the city but she still longs for the open fields and beautiful skies of Brambleberry Creek, the small town in Kentucky where she grew up. So when she receives a heart-breaking call from her mother, telling her that her Memaw Essie is on her deathbed, Morgan drops everything to go home and face her family—before it’s too late.

Stepping through the door of her memaw’s charming old farmhouse, Morgan is reminded of all the happy times she spent baking with Essie. And it’s not long before her childhood sweetheart, Emmett Dawson, with his sparkling blue eyes and teasing smile, comes to find her. It almost starts to feel like old times as Morgan and Emmett spend long summer evenings together eating berries by the water. But a lot has happened since they last saw each other. Can their relationship really be reignited after all this time?

The sprawling Kentucky countryside also brings memories of the fateful accident that Essie was responsible for: the day that changed Morgan’s world forever and drove her away from her family, Emmett and everything she loved…

With Essie in the hospital, Morgan tries to forgive her. It’s only when she discovers an ink-stained letter written in her memaw’s distinctive hand that she finally starts to understand the truth behind the moment that tore the two women apart.

Will the unraveling of a shocking family secret help Morgan to reunite her family and find a future with Emmett in Brambleberry Creek? Or will she leave the rolling hills of Kentucky for good?

My Review

This book is a sure fire winner. I read it in a few hours. Captivating, I had a hard time putting it down. The characters are so well written and realistic, Brambleberry Creek, Kentucky is so warm and comforting you’re going to want to move here. A perfect relaxation , all your troubles will melt away as you read this.
While reading you’ll swear you’re on a vacation with a cool breeze flowing over you with the scent of fresh flowers and your favorite drink in hand.
Full of friendships, romance, family secrets, trust, love, guidance a little bit of drama and a whole lot of fun.
Now I NEED to read the rest of the books in this amazing series and I can’t wait to read the next one in this series. I loved this book. I haven’t felt this good after reading a book in a long time.

Bookouture Blog Tour for A Home At Cornflower Cottage By Tilly Tennant

This is such a feel good, happy book. I think we can all use a little lift right about now.

About The Book

Escape to the flower-filled fields and hedgerows of the Cotswold countryside, to a tiny cottage and a summer that could change everything….

Amelie will never give up Cornflower Cottage, marooned in its island of wild fields and thick woodland. She did her homework at the scrubbed kitchen table and helped her mother hang washing on the line from the old oak tree. And when her beloved parents died, Cornflower Cottage became Amelie’s armour against the world.

The trouble is that it’s falling apart, and she’s struggling to make ends meet. The garden is a jungle of weeds, the roof leaks, the boiler is broken. Determined to keep hold of the home that is her last link to her parents, Amelie decides it’s time to take action.

Extra shifts at a local hotel, favours called in from old friends, and, reluctantly, a lodger. Could rude, hilarious, brown-eyed Xander be the answer to her problems? Or is he just going to come in and start changing things?

Just as Amelie manages to save the cottage from total collapse, and she starts getting used to the sound of laughter in her cosy farmhouse kitchen, a face from Xander’s past appears and Amelie’s future in the home she loves is shaken once again.

Can Amelie find a way to save her home and protect her heart? Can she trust Xander, or was the spark between them just in her imagination?

A completely beautiful romantic comedy about being brave, following your heart and moving on. Fans of Holly Martin, Jessica Redland and Nicola May will be swept away by A Home at Cornflower Cottage.

My Review

I have read many books by Tilly Tennant. They are the perfect light read for when you just want to put your feet up,kick back and relax with your tea and biscuits kind of books.
As I was reading this I was completely immersed in this feel good story.
The setting is so cozy, with it’s picturesque countryside filled with flowers and the memory filled Cornflower Cottage Amelie has lived in her whole life with her parents. Life was ideal and she really didn’t have a care in the world and wasn’t planning on changing anything soon. Life sometimes has a way of abruptly changing things though and this happened when her parents died.
Now her beloved Cornflower Cottage still holds these precious memories for her but she is seeing things in a different light. Repairs are costly as one thing after another goes on the blink in her cottage and her finances aren’t really being helped by her job where the boss is working her harder than anyone but sure not paying her more.
Bring her boyfriend into the picture, now this guy is a character in the book that I didn’t particularly make a connection with. He is pretty much a for himself kind of guy and pretty clingy in the relationship. I can’t see how he enriches the story at all. Her rabbit, Salad was an adorable addition to the story. I enjoyed reading about him. Probably because we have 2 lop eared rabbits.
Amelie comes up with a plan to get an additional income and I like how she went about it.
I enjoyed reading about Xander’s character he brings light and sunshine back into Amelie’s life.
Such a warm and entertaining read. I’ll always recommend this author’s books.

Boldwood Books Blog Tour for The Memory Keeper of Kyiv by Erin Litteken

Today I am happy to bring you my blog stop for The Memory Keeper of Kyiv by debut author Erin Litteken

In the 1930s, Stalin’s activists marched through the Soviet Union, espousing the greatness of collective farming. It was the first step in creating a man-made famine that, in Ukraine, stole almost 4 million lives. Inspired by the history the world forgot, and the Russian government denies, Erin Litteken reimagines their story.

In 1929, Katya is 16 years old, surrounded by family and in love with the boy next door. When Stalin’s activists arrive in her village, it’s just a few, a little pressure to join the collective. But soon neighbors disappear, those who speak out are never seen again and every new day is uncertain.

Resistance has a price, and as desperate hunger grips the countryside, survival seems more a dream than a possibility. But, even in the darkest times, love beckons.

Seventy years later, a young widow discovers her grandmother’s journal, one that will reveal the long-buried secrets of her family’s haunted past.

This is a story of the resilience of the human spirit, the love that sees us through our darkest hours and the true horror of what happened during the Holodomor.

May we never forget, lest history repeat itself.

A share of proceeds will be donated to DEC’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

My Review

This book is absolutely incredible. If you enjoy reading dual time spans and learning from what you read may I suggest this to you?
The book is fictional though the subject matter is about past events taking place in Ukraine.
The story follows an Ukrainian family and their struggle for survival as the country is forced to go through Holodomor. I had never heard of this or learned about this in school . Holodomor is a forced starvation from 1932 to 1933 killing up to 5 million people. It was carried out by the Soviet Regime.
The characters in the present day story are linked to the characters in the past by a discovered journal telling of the hardships suffered in the past.
The thing really impressing me was the resilience and strength the characters show through adversity.
This is a very interesting book that shows strong courage and unwavering hope. We are assured there is light after the darkness.
Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed this book. I hope you get a chance to read it as well. I know you’ll love it!

Just Look at that gorgeous cover!

My Review

Once I started It Started With A Kiss I just could not stop. The characters are so charming, so likable,so realistic you can’t help but want the best for them!
Fin and Star don’t have a lot of self-confidence but what they have when they start talking and getting to know each other can’t be beat. They bring out the best and brightest in each other and their happiness will now shine.
This is my first book by this author and I really have enjoyed reading her writing style, it makes it very easy to understand the story and the pacing was perfect.
With such different personalities and backgrounds the characters have you would have thought the characters wouldn’t get on but they have an understanding and compassion for each other’s situations and get on fabulously.

Blog Tour For The Painter’s Girl By Helen Fripp

Today I am so excited to be a part of the blog tour for The Painter’s Girl by Helen Fripp.

My Review

The Painter’s Girl is set in Paris, 1860. Mimi Bisset grew up in the slums with an alcoholic mother.
She vows to never take that path for herself doing whatever job she can find to support herself, even though life has never been easy for her. A mother’s heart never forgets. Giving up her daughter has been the hardest thing she has ever done in her life though at the time she thought she was doing the right thing so her daughter will have a chance at a better life. Mimi is the darling of the circus life where she preforms but an unfortunate injury puts a stop to that. Always having had an interest in painting she’s pulled into the world of impressionist artists and the glamour that goes with it.
Life is rosy and bright with what looks to be a sure thing romance blooming but once again the sky darkens for her. When she discovers a secret has been kept from her she is outraged and can concentrate on nothing else. Her main objective is to have her daughter back with her and if this can’t happen nothing else matters in life.
The story is fast paced and I enjoyed the descriptions of the art world. I felt like I had gone on a little trip to Paris.
The book kept my attention and was hard to put down. I recommend this historical fiction.

Snyopsis

The Painter’s Girl: Absolutely heartbreaking historical romance set in Paris by Helen Fripp

‘I want to paint you,’ he whispers. In his high-ceilinged studio filled with golden light she takes in the canvases propped against every wall, the paints like jewels. She thinks of the pictures she longs to paint, of her lost little girl playing in sunlit gardens. Will she ever see her daughter again?

Paris, 1860s. For Mimi Bisset, survival is everything on the cobbled streets of the Paris slums. She tries to forget the pain of losing her daughter Colette: born out of wedlock and forcibly given away to a rich family. But Mimi’s world turns upside down after a chance encounter with handsome artist Édouard Manet. Boldly posing for portraits on Manet’s chaise longue, Mimi feels a wild freedom – and as Manet teaches her how to layer the vivid paints on canvas herself, a passion grows between them that breaks all the rules…

At Manet’s side, Mimi is caught up in his world. They dance all night at Paris’s new can-can clubs and drink absinthe at masked balls. But one day, strolling by the Seine on her lover’s arm, Mimi catches a glimpse of familiar green eyes… it’s Colette, with a family who Manet knew all along.

Although she’s reeling that the man she loved kept such a secret from her, Mimi is filled with hope she’ll finally get her daughter back. But when a terrible rumour begins to circulate about Mimi, the only place she has to go is back to the slums. Destitute, hungry and alone, can Mimi clear her name? Or will her heart shatter all over again when she loses her daughter for a second, final time?

A completely gripping and heartbreaking read that will whisk you away to 19th-century Paris. Perfect for anyone who loves Marie Benedict, Chocolat and Dinah Jefferies.

About The Author

I love delving into the past and uncovering new stories, and in my writing, the tiniest historical detail can spark an idea for a whole chapter. My female characters rail against the social constraints to which they are subject and often achieve great success, but they are of course flawed and human, like the rest of us. It’s the motivations, flaws, loves and every-day lives of my characters that I love to bring life, against sweeping historical backdrops – and I will find any excuse to take off and research a captivating location or person for my next story.

My first novel is set in the Champagne region in France, and I’m currently working on my next one, set in late eighteenth century Paris. I spent a lot of time in France as a child, have lived in Paris and spent a year with my family in a fishing village in South West France, so that’s where my books have ended up being set so far. Who knows where next!
