Tricia Miles and her sister, Angelica, are the co-presidents of the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce. Things are changing in the booktown, and some merchants would say not for the better. Of course, the members with other businesses, like the latest, The Bee’s Knees, are fine with other businesses moving in. No matter what side of the argument they’re on, all the business owners agree on one thing: Tricia and Angelica are to blame. 
 
Still, it’s a pretty typical day in the life of a small-town Chamber of Commerce until one of the disgruntled bookstore owners is killed—Eli Meier from The Inner Light Bookstore, the most vocal of the Chamber complainers. He sold religious and other spiritual books, but also stocked books on wild conspiracy theories and sold incense, crystals, etc. Eli had never been a member of the Chamber until Angelica recently convinced him to join. He hit on her and she, having good taste, turned him down. He hounded (but not stalked) her, and some might think that was a motive for murder. 
 
Stoneham’s new police chief is an old friend of Tricia’s, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to go easy on her sister. One might even say that he’s going to throw the book at her.

My Thoughts

Clause of Death is the sixteenth book in the Clause of Death series.
Having read several books in the series I was looking forward to this book.
What I thought was pretty neat is because this is Booktown, most of the bookstores and restaurants along with shops have a book related name. I want to visit this bookish town.
I am familiar with our main characters, Tricia Miles and her sister, Angelica, who are the co-presidents of the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce.
At the town meetings and around town some of the residents make it known they are very unhappy with non-bookish shops coming into town and taking prime spots on Main Street.
When a disgruntled bookshop employee is found dead Stoneham’s new police chief has no problem trying to throw the book at one of the sisters.
There were some very surprising going On’s and it had a sad ending that I was hoping would have had a different outcome.
I’m looking forward to many more books in this series.

My Thoughts

Though this book's suggested age audience is seven to nine years old, I enjoyed it myself and so did my daughter.
Minx is a beautiful white cat, a pampered pet we shall call him who lives with his human parents and a chicken. Yes, a show chicken who spends a lot of time in the house being groomed for shows. Minx thinks this chicken is annoying, but shhhhhhh, don't tell the chicken this.
Minx is so proud of his collar; it opens his cat flap leading to the outside for whenever he wants to nip out for a bit without bothering his parents.
Wandering around one day outside he sees Spanner, a ginger-haired cat, a male.
After visiting a bit with each other with Minx in the lead they go towards Minx's house and see a huge delivery truck delivering cat food . The most delicious treats are falling out of the back of the truck and being the curious cats, they are they both jump into the back of the truck to investigate.
Unluckily for them, they've both just gotten catnapped as the back of the truck shuts with a slam.
Scared as they are thrown into a cage, they wonder if they'll ever escape. Barking dogs scare them. Cats are good at hiding, scratching and jumping. Will they be able to come up with a plan?
These cats are acquaintances but not friends. Will they learn to trust each other and make a plan? Will they find their way back to their people?
Cute children's story about the relationship between two cats and what happens when they get catnapped!

Themes of friendship, courage and adventure.
Highly recommended for families! We will be reading this again and again.

My Thoughts

We are treated to a contemporary fiction book with four novella length stories in it. This author usually writes historical fiction, but she has presented us with contemporary fiction which I was just as happy to read. The stories take place in Kansas, the author's home state and each one involves a storm which the state is known for, along with hurricane preparedness.
Each of the stories takes place in one of the seasons so we get a nice mix of seasonal summer, spring, fall and winter and the activities the revolve around them.
The stories though not dated for a time period, to my way of thinking seem to take place in the eighties when people were kinder, more understanding and not quite the hurry, hurry attitude we have today no matter the cost to anyone else.
Feel good book that left me smiling! Recommended!

My Thoughts

I absolutely love the uniqueness of the author’s stories. Her stories are so well researched and filled with detail which is what I love. She mixes fact and fiction so marvelously and it turns into an unputdownable story.
This is the third book in the Blackstone Legacy series. I have been waiting for Liam’s story and this is it.
Growing up in Pittsburgh with the steel mills I found many things in the book familiar, like the factory conditions being unsafe.
I have to say I really admired our two main character, Maggie and Liam. Similar in many ways, yet different.
Maggie Molinaro worked with her uncle on the rough and dangerous streets of Manhattan, from the time she was a young teen building from the ground up an ice cream factory. Her uncle was an immigrant and she helped him realize his dream, which also became her dream. It started out with pushcarts selling ice cream around the neighborhood from morning til night. Barely able to pay their debts. Maggie despite all her struggles doesn’t give up. She and her uncle slowly build their inventory from ice cream pushcarts to opening their own factory and supplying delicious ice creams to other businesses.
Liam Blackstone may have been born into wealth but not he’s too good for the average person. He has empathy for the working man and their trials and situations.
Standing in the way of their successes is a man determined to have it all no matter which way he needs to get it. Will he succeed with his evil corruption, lies, and pay offs. It certainly appears to all be going in his favor and no one can stop him.
Maggie and Liam are determined to stop him with the help of others but is it too late?
Excellent! I have read this author’s books right from the start of her writing career and they continue to amaze me. I love how she brings to the forefront little known history and creates stories from it.

We are back at Halesmere House in beautiful Cumbria with its beautiful gardens, the best hiking trails and unforgettable scenery for your photographs.

My Thoughts

This is the first book in the Love in the Lakes series.
Halesmere sounds like such a beautiful place to visit, with its scenic gardens, lovely walking trails and the best climbing areas.
I know I’d love to walk there and relax in its floral gardens.
The author’s books are so heartwarming, they really draw you in.
Main character Ella Grant arrives to Halesmere House in Cumbria to take charge of re-opening the house.
Ella and Max are both suffering from losses which adds some emotional parts to the story.
Max’s children fall hard and fast for Ella. The children are both very young and impressionable and the author gets it right in her portrayal of the children. They are fun to be around and really enjoy their time with Ella; I think they miss a mother figure.
Having lost his wife Max is hesitant to allow his children to get too attached to Ella as she’s only going to be there for her job for a limited amount of time and then where would that leave the children after she leaves?
Max is borderline rude to Ella when we first meet them, but I think he’s scared to let himself relax and love again. It’s such a gradual change we see in Max’s behavior its almost not even noticeable, slow and steady we see a warming. He trusts Ella with his children and Max and Ella’s relationship takes a warming turn.
Warm welcoming story with the characters moving on from grief and once again finding happiness.

My Thoughts

Death by Beach Read is the ninth book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series.
I enjoy reading books about places I’ve visited, and this takes place on the Out Banks of North Carolina, Nags Head and Bodie Island Light House. Such a beautiful area. While the lighthouse in the story houses a library, living quarters and offices from visiting I know there is no room for this but its fiction so allowable it is.
Having read and enjoyed others in this series I am familiar with the characters Lucy, a transplant from Boston and Connor, the very busy mayor. They have moved into a newly renovated beach house and are settling in with her library cat Charley.
Her first night alone in the house provides to be too spooky with sounds coming from the closed off upstairs area and footprints in the dust.
When a body of a man the homeowners don’t even know turns up in their house it’s time to take into account the old rumors about the house being haunted.
Will the cat’s nosing around turn up anything but mice in the empty and dusty areas of the home?
Action, suspense, wedding planning, a library, a cat, sleuthing this book has all you need to be satisfied with a great cozy mystery.
I am enjoying this series and a lot of the same characters in each book. Wonderful, easy to follow plot. Some cozies can confuse you with too much going on, not so with this one. Recommended!

My Thoughts

As a cat owner this book just resonated with me.
Her daughter wanted a cat after their other one passed away, she did as well but just not the one her daughter chose. At the time of coming into their lives, the cat and woman do their best to avoid each other. After all cats have personalities too and we can’t expect cats to warm up to us as soon as they meet us.
From a broken-down romantic relationship to finding true happiness her cat is with her the whole way. Starting out with the cat and the author not liking each other to tolerating each other to not wanting to be without each other we see such progression in the relationship.
Each chapter is short and easy to get through but yet there is a simple truth to the life lessons the cat teaches along the way. Cats are very good judges of character.
I very much enjoyed taking this journey with the cat owner and her cat. It is a heartwarming and enjoyable read. I recommend this nonfiction book by this new to me author.

I was lucky enough to grow up in Rural Nebraska on a farm where I learned to love animals and the outdoors. I wrote my first book when I was about 10 years old and I have been writing ever since. I recently won a top award for some song lyrics I entered in an online contest on a whim. That was so exciting! I now live in New Mexico and get my ideas for new stories while hiking in the foothills.

Top Ten Tuesday-Books I Can’t Wait to Read publishing in the first 6 months of 2023

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

My Thoughts

3.5 rounded up to 4.
Let’s start off by saying I didn’t really connect with the main female character, she’s flighty, insecure and always has a sob story about not being able to keep a boyfriend.
Rom Coms are supposed to be light reads for when you want to read something light and not really have to think about it.
Not so in this one, there is a lot going on. Our mfc gets dumped right at the beginning of the book but he dumps his hedgehog on her too. The hedgehog is a positive in the book, he’s a cute addition.
She meets a new guy but has sworn off men for now she wants him to be her wingman and nothing more. With more than casual glances and witty and flirty banter it doesn’t stay casual for long.
I didn’t really connect with the mmc either he’s sort of a pushover and goes along with whatever she says. When the mfc checks her list of male qualifications for a boyfriend and thinks she may have hit it off with his brother and spends time with him he doesn’t step in to stop it or say she is his.
A cussing bird that has no problem insulting everyone adds flavor to the story.
I think the book has filler and could have done with about 100 pages less as parts of it do drag. I also thought we would spend a lot of time in the floral shop out mfc works in but barely anything.
