Description

Can their hearts overcome the darkness of the mountains?

To escape a forced marriage, Cora Taylor travels from England to the Blue Ridge Mountains in search of her brother, who is working as a teacher in a mission school. She hopes to find a place where her nursing skills and independent ideas will be accepted and appreciated, but nothing prepares her for the wild mixture of isolation, community, brokenness, and hope within these mountains…or in the person of Jeb McAdams.

Returning from the devastation of World War 1 emotionally damaged, Jeb McAdams struggles against the rampant mountain alcoholism to soothe his nightmares. It’s easy to hide within the mountains, or it was, before Cora Taylor arrived. Now, she seems to show up at every turn, bringing her modern ideas, curiosity, and beautiful eyes with her.

Bound by their shared war history, the pair develop an unlikely friendship, which unexpectedly hints to something more. But when Cora’s desire to help the women of the mountains crosses an unspoken line, will Jeb be able to protect this feisty flatlander from the wrath of the mountain men or will he end up losing much more than his heart?

When The Meadow Blooms By Ann H. Gabhart Book Review

My Review

This book is absolutely incredible!
I’ve always loved this author’s books and this one is my new favorite.
Her storytelling is fabulous, her imagination more than impressive. It would be interesting talking with her and finding out what inspires her stories.
A sanitarium would be a depressing place to be ,wondering if you would ever be able to leave, so would an orphanage. But this is where Rose and her two daughters are in the mid-nineteen twenties when Rose is struck with tuberculous and she has no one to care for her children. She promises she’ll be out quickly so they can be together again.
Her daughters are young, the older protecting the younger. The time slowly passes, the mother is sad and lonely despairing of never seeing her daughters again. The girls starting to forget what mother looks like but never forgetting her love for them.
Able to finally get out it seems as though it’s a dream to be able to stay at her brother-in laws farm, Meadowland with her daughters.
The girls help their mother and the youngest has a special affinity with nature and animals.
Her brother in-law is a sad man grieving his past, not wanting to talk about it and keeping his heart shut tightly to any possibility of love.
The girls at his farm start to make a big change in his heart as he’s able to let love in again. I enjoyed seeing a spiritual growth in him. It’s amazing what a crow and the man’s visitors can do to start his healing process for his heart. We don’t have to keep everything bottled up inside, healing is available if we just embrace it.
So full of emotions, you will love this book and want to read it more than once. I know this book will stay with me for a long time.

The Master Craftsman by Kelli Stuart Book Review

My Review

This is my first read by this author and I have been really anticipating this book as it sounded so interesting.
I love books that are based on people’s lives and the author sprinkles in a little magic and makes it their own. I learn a lot from books like this.
The majority of this takes place in Russia, it is so much fun to read books from other areas and learn about their customs.
I of course had heard of Faberge eggs but didn’t have much knowledge of them or their creator.
Alternating between the late 1910’s to early 1920’s and modern times I found the two time periods easy to follow. I at first wasn’t sure what the connection between the time periods was but it quickly came into clear view.
I found the descriptions of the opulent Faberge eggs and their production fascinating.
I had no idea one of the greatest secrets in Russian history involved an unknown Faberge egg and the trouble it would cause in both past and present times. This book will keep you on your toes, many unexpected happenings with a real surprise near the end.
Excellent!

Fabergé egg (Russian: яйцо Фаберже́, yaytso Faberzhe) is a jewelled egg created by the jewellery firm House of Fabergé, in Saint PetersburgRussian Empire. Possibly as many as 69 were created, of which 57 survive today. Virtually all were manufactured under the supervision of Peter Carl Fabergé between 1885 and 1917.[1][2] The most famous are his 52 “Imperial” eggs, 46 of which survive, made for the Russian Tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II as Easter gifts for their wives and mothers.[3]

GoodReads Synopsis

In 1917, Alma Pihl, a master craftsman in The House of FabergZ, was charged to protect one of the greatest secrets in Russian history–an unknown FabergZ Egg that Peter Karl FabergZ secretly created to honor his divided allegiance to both the people of Russia and the Imperial Czar’s family. When Alma and her husband escaped Russia for their native Finland in 1921, she took the secret with her, guarding her past connection to the Romanov family.

Three generations later, world-renowned treasure hunter Nick Laine is sick and fears the secret of the missing egg will die with him. With time running out, he entrusts the mission of retrieving the egg to his estranged daughter, Ava, who has little idea of the dangers she is about to face. As the stakes are raised, Ava is forced to declare her own allegiance–and the consequences are greater than she could have imagined.

This modern-day treasure hunt from award-winning author Kelli Stuart transports you into the opulent and treacherous world of the Russian Revolution to unearth mysteries long buried.

When Norah arrives in Venice for a ten-week internship she is surprised to discover that her guide for her work trips around the lagoon is the undeniably gorgeous and kind Gianluca. She can’t help thinking he might be too good to be true, with his endless fascinating local stories, and his infectious laugh.

Norah is still bitter after an accident left her with a serious injury and also meant the end of her long-term relationship. And besides, she’s serious about her career and that means leaving Venice at the end of the summer.

Gianluca has had a summer fling before that led to heartache for him and he won’t do it again. He enjoys the long hours out on the lagoon with Norah, but after a storm strands them on a picture-perfect island for a night, they agree they should just be good friends for the summer.

But life doesn’t always go to plan, and when it’s time for Norah to go, they have to decide whether what they have between them is really just a friendship, and not something more…

Written On The Wind (The Blackstone Legacy #2) Book Review

My Review

Though this is the second book in a series it can very easily be read as a stand alone.
I have read all of the author’s books, I won’t miss one but this book takes historical fiction to a whole new level.
I love her books for how well researched they are and give me as many details as possible please.
There are historical books that are great that are similar to many others out there. This author’s books shine in their own way because they have original story lines not the same ones many other authors use.
How about topics of Trans-Siberian Railway, the launching of prerecorded wax discs, and a woman who is the lead analyst for her father’s New York banking empire and manages their investment in the Trans-Siberian Railway. Now you have to remember this is during the early 1900’s when women were not easily accepted in these fields and expected to stay home and let the men take care of it all.
Very strong character development. I enjoyed reading history about Russia and about their culture.
Very interesting book. I look forward to the next book as this one is incredible!

The True Love Bookshop (Somerset Lake #3)

My Review

This is so heartwarming, it’s her absolute best book ever!
Her books are so realistic, you could see you friends and neighbors in these situations.
I love that this is a series and we get to meet characters from previous books again and also meet a new cast of characters.
I must say I was glad to see Somerset Lake’s gossip blogger,Reva back at it again. She knows everybody’s business and you wouldn’t want her for a neighbor but she has a fun and outgoing personality and she won’t hesitate to tell you what you need to know about someone.
The book is so emotional, it may bring you to tears and you’ll find yourself in a range of emotions as you read this.
Tess Lane owns Lakeside Books, it’s her calm space to go to after the death of her husband,Jared that occurred three years ago. She had so many dreams of how life would be for them but it was all snatched away by a car accident.
River was her husband’s best friend before their wedding until he objected to their wedding, now she and his family don’t like him because of the objection.
When he shows up on her doorstep questions rush in.
As she starts spending more time with River she sees he’s not the bad guy she thought he was, this former Marine has changed and has her best welfare at heart.
He’s a PI now and the more he uncovers about her husband the more she feels as though her life is crumbling all over again.
Will a journey of self-worth and self-discovery for River and Tess both set them on a path of despair or easing of pain and knowing forgiveness is the way to reopen the heart again?
Family is not always blood but who you make it when you let others into your heart.
Loved this book and look forward to many more by this author!

To Tame A Cowboy (Colorado Cowboys #3)by Jody Hedlund-Book Review

My Review

The author writes in many genres and excels at all of them.
I have read all of the books in this series, all wonderful but this one is my favorite.
Brody is a broken man from his time spent in the Civil War and what he blames himself for being unable to do.
Spending time with his little niece relaxes him and makes him feel whole again.
Though he may not show it outwardly he has a tender heart , especially when it comes to the wild horses in the area who are being killed by local ranchers when their cattle don’t have enough of the lush grass for grazing.
Despite no formal training Savannah Marshall has vet smarts after working with a trained veterinarian for many years.
Wanting to please her father she agrees to marry a man of his choosing but decides against it at the last minute and runs away.
Not having a destination in mind she gets to town and sees a horse being terribly mistreated and rushes to treat it. Two tender hearts meet then, Brody with his love of animals and Savannah with her doctoring knowledge and her love of animals.
Savannah is on the run and her family wants her back but will love be able to run wild and free like the horses when she is found or will her heart be caged?
We also get a glimpse of Brody’s sister in this story, she will not be held back. She is free spirited and I love her personality.
I’ll bet there will be a book telling her story soon and I can’t wait to read it.
I loved this book!

When The Day Comes (Timeless #1) by Gabrielle Meyer-Book Review

My Review

This book is incredibly unique. Not many authors can write different genres as well as this one does. But she writes books that are done equally well in each genre she writes.
This book has a unique look at time traveling. When our main character goes to sleep in one time period she’ll wake up in another time period without any time having passed.
She splits her time between 1774 Colonial Williamsburg and the other in 1914 Gilded Age New York City. There are positives and negatives in each time period and she lives a very different life in each one. I enjoyed reading the rich historical details about each time period.
There comes a time when she must make a very important decision about which time period she will stay in as she will not be able to return to the other.
I never thought I would enjoy time travel books but the author draws you into the story and makes it so fascinating that you can’t help but love it!

It Started With A Kiss by Lisa Hobman-Blog Tour

I really enjoyed this book. I hope you get a chance to read it as well. I know you’ll love it!

Just Look at that gorgeous cover!

My Review

Once I started It Started With A Kiss I just could not stop. The characters are so charming, so likable,so realistic you can’t help but want the best for them!
Fin and Star don’t have a lot of self-confidence but what they have when they start talking and getting to know each other can’t be beat. They bring out the best and brightest in each other and their happiness will now shine.
This is my first book by this author and I really have enjoyed reading her writing style, it makes it very easy to understand the story and the pacing was perfect.
With such different personalities and backgrounds the characters have you would have thought the characters wouldn’t get on but they have an understanding and compassion for each other’s situations and get on fabulously.
Brilliantly written, I can’t wait to see what else this author has out!
