I do apologize for barely posting recently and not interacting with your blog posts if I’m following you. Saturday my cat Iris, 10 years 6 months became sick, she ate Saturday morning and was running around playing as usual. Sunday night she threw up once and still didn’t eat. Didn’t think much of it as they all throw up once in awhile. Sunday she threw up three times and dry heaved and still hadn’t eaten . Monday threw up again and still wasn’t eating so I knew it was time to take her to the vet. Called my vet and they couldn’t fit her in so I had to take her to the emergency vet. Walk in fee for an exam is $170 without doing anything. We got blood work, an x-ray, fluid infusion for dehydration and they gave us take home meds including a tube of cream for appetite stimulant to put in her ear, anti nausea pills and probiotic powder to sprinkle on her food. None worked, though she was drinking water she still wasn’t eating. This was Tuesday. I called the emergency vet again Tuesday and said she hasn’t eaten since Saturday morning when should I bring her back in, keep in mind she’s a tiny girl, only 6 pounds. They said give it a few hours and bring her back in if nothing’s changed. I tried heating her canned food in the microwave like they suggested, I tried tuna water from tuna with water by the way if you eat tuna with oil please don’t give your cat the oil from the tuna, it’s too high in sodium and can make your cat sick . So I brought her back in yesterday and because she wouldn’t eat they kept her for observation, ran more blood tests and X-rays , said her blood sugar is a bit low but they think it’s because of her not eating. Somehow they got her to eat today, praise God. They’ll call at 7 pm. and give us an update but if she’s still eating we can bring her home and care for her at home with medicine and a special diet. She was a very sick girl and we hope it’s turned around now. I will give you an update tomorrow.
Here’s a few pictures of Iris, she’s the tiger stripe girl.

Thank you Thomas. I’m looking at the eating as a good positive and going from there.

So sorry you’re having to deal with this. It’s hard when pets get sick. They can’t tell you what’s wrong. And they really are family. Hope she’s feeling better quickly. She’s a cutie!

Thank.you for your kind words, Cindy. So far all seems well since we’ve brought her home. 3 meds for tomorrow morning and more later in the day. She’s worth it though.

I hope Iris is on the mend. Maybe something she ate that she shouldn’t have when you weren’t looking? It’s always anxious times when pets are sick because they can’t tell you what’s wrong!

Thank you for your concern. The vet did an x-ray, blood work and ultrasound and said she was dehydrated and had gas but were not sure why. She’s slowly improving and has another appointment in a few days. She is now using the litter box and eating and drinking as well, just a bit tired still but things are looking up

yes they do. it’d be so much easier if they’d just learn to talk and all the videos in the world about dogs and their body language just confuses me more.

I agree. My vet said the same thing, he said “I absolutely love animals but if I could just sit down with them for ten minutes and they could tell me what hurts and how they feel my job would be so much easier. ” Too bad they can’t.
