What place in the world do you never want to visit? Why?
I do not want to go anywhere that’s not allies with the US.

I went to the Soviet Union when I was a teenager/high schooler. We tried to bring in unwanted literature and printing press equipment for the underground movement. This was 1980. Bresjnev was in charge. We were stopped and interrogated at the Finland Station in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). The soldiers lined us up towards the wall at gunpoint and interrogated us one by one in the train wagon rooms/roomettes. They allowed us in, but with a guide from the KGB. You are right. We were from Sweden, but travelling to a country that is not a US ally carries a risk for westerners, well anybody really.
I am sure this experience will stay in your memory bank forever. That is absolutely not a risk I am willing to take.
Yes it was a memorable experience. I was not very afraid though because I had a feeling they did not want the diplomatic problems that would come from doing something serious to Swedish tourists, not considering the Olympics in Moscow were coming up. Unlike, for example, North Korea or Iran they were somewhat rational. But I would not do it again.
I would say North Korea. We lived in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s when it was still under Communist rule. We smuggled in copies of books by Aleksander Solzhenitsyn under a false bottom of my carry-on. I was searched at the airport but luckily the guard became fascinated with my hair dryer and never went any deeper into the bag.
My heart would have been in my throat during that search. The hair dryer to the rescue, what a diversion.
Yup, that little adventure set my heart racing!
Nice disscustion
