Daily Prompt 23 Saturday March

What is your favorite type of weather?

I don’t have a favorite type of weather. I enjoy the emergence of Spring when it starts to warm up again and the cold is behind us. Summer brings a guarantee of warm sunny days. I like waking up in the morning and it being warm, it energized me. That being said I don’t like humidity or bright glaring sun. I enjoy laying in bed and listening to and watching a strong storm flashing across the sky. Rain is so soothing to hear. Fall is a great time as it gets cooler and we get a break from the heat of the summer. I don’t like winter , the cold wind and snow are not my favorites at all. I try to stay cuddled up in a blanket with books and tea. Unfortunately I still do need to go outside in winter ☃️ ❄️

A few years ago a tornado ravaged our neighborhood and destroyed several of our neighbor’s houses. Our house stood but we had a lot of damage, a ruined roof, a smashed chimney, a broken fence and garage door, ruined piping and wiring in the attic, my grill flew away, and a few more minor things. It cost $50,000.00 but luckily the insurance paid. As the tornado hit the neighborhood and the sirens were blaring I was drinking my favorite SMASH IPA (Single Malt and Single Hops) called Yellow Rose. After that experience Yellow Rose became my bad weather beer. This way bad weather can actually be good weather.

I’m sorry that you had to experience that. Having never experienced a tornado it sounds like it would be really scary. Is it comparable to a hurricane I wonder, a lower grade one maybe? That’s a lot of damage to sustain and quite the hefty bill. Thank goodness insurance took care of it. That’s right you’ll always associate that type of beer with the bad weather but not in a bad way.

Hurricanes and tornadoes are different phenomenon and dangerous in different ways. Hurricanes are geographically large, like a state, and they last longer. A tornado is much smaller, but it typically has more intense winds. The EF3 tornado passing through our neighborhood destroyed the neighborhood in seconds. It was short.

Hurricanes are cyclones coming from the oceans. Tornadoes are formed by severe thunderstorms (super cells). A medium tornado (EF3) can make cars and buses fly around in the air like birds, which hurricanes typically cannot do. However, hurricanes cover much larger areas and cause floods. The floods are the big killers with hurricanes. Both hurricanes and tornadoes can kill hundreds of people. The town (Joplin, Missouri) of a friend of mine was hit by a tornado in 2011 and 158 people died, and more than a thousand were injured. However, she survived.

I’m so glad to hear that. Thank you for explaining this to me Thomas. Different types of weather are so fascinating, but I wouldn’t want to experience either of these up close and personal.

Northern Iowa we’re to get snow tonight and tomorrow I don’t know if it’s started yet but hopefully it will not last. rain comes too fast doesn’t absorb in the ground snow takes longer to melt and it’s more absorbent. in Iowa we’re under a drought so we need as much as we can so the farmers don’t hurt in the summer.

Wow, this is a really awesome post and as I expected, it’s sparked some really awesome comments. I really loved how many examples you shared to really drive your point home. In addition, the formula of “greeting, compliment, value and promise” is super valuable. That formula alone makes it worth reading. You really can’t go wrong doing it that way.

I love sunny, warm days with a nice breeze. I am not a fan of humidity, nor temperatures over 82 ish. I like snow at Christmas time, then it can go away. I go south in the winter because of the gray, dismal days that we get most of the time. This is a tricky question.

Yes it is. Snow is beautiful to look at . I live in PA and so of course we get snow, not as much as we used to but as you said it can go away for me too. Christmas snow is fine. After I fell I’m not a fan now 🙂 I don’t like humidity or extreme bright sunny days where the sun just beats down on you. You’ve got the right idea vacationing in the winter. I used to live in Yuma, Arizona and they called the winter visitors “snow birds.” Thought that was funny.
