About The Book
Moira Green is perfectly content with her life. She has a rewarding career and plenty of wonderful friends, including the members of her weekly book club. Then everything in her life goes topsy-turvy when the town council plans to demolish the site of her mother’s beloved café to make room for much-needed parking. Moira is determined to save her mother’s business, so she swallows her pride and asks Gil Ryan for help.
Moira and Somerset Lake’s mayor were good friends once, the kind who could laugh at everything and nothing at all. Until one night changed everything between them. And now, with Gil supporting the council’s plans, Moira is forced to find another way to save Sweetie’s—and it involves campaigning against Gil. Eminent domain stuff can be awful. It sounds like intriguing book. As for my first line (book nearby) it happens to be French this time (French short stories for beginners) “C’est tous les ans la même chose. Maurice, le père, passe trois jours à préparer la voiture et vérifier que tout va bien, qu’elle est en bon état et que le véhicule ne tombera pas en panne le long de la route.”

No I am taking classes. I can read and write French and converse with difficulty but I am still learning. It takes a long time to learn a second language, at least for me. It took me a long time to learn English too, and it was the same thing. I could read complicated text books in English before I could converse with people.

I agree, it is difficult to learn another language especially as an adult. I lived in Arizona for a few years as a teenager was surrounded by Spanish speaking people and still failed it in school. I think English would be an extremely hard language to learn. For example, words being spelled the same but pronounced differently, where to put apostrophes. commas and how about different spellings of the same words, for example, two, to and too. It confuses us even at times. 🙂

Foreign languages was never my forte. I was good at math and science but not English and German, which I was taking in middle school and high school. I was especially bad in English. I had what corresponded to a C- or a D+ but I passed. It was the same thing as with French. I found speaking to be the hardest. That changed when I moved to the US. I have a noticeable accent (sometimes not noticeable) but otherwise my English is just fine. Being surrounded by a language all the time makes a big difference. When living abroad there is a big gotcha for native English speakers. English is spoken more or less everywhere today and let say you live in France, the temptation is to speak English, since everyone wants to practice their English on you. If you accept that you will never learn the second language.

Chapter One Daisy Francois April 1870
The castle cast its hypnotic pull over any passerby who happened along to find it, tucked derp in the woods in a place where no one would build a castle, let alone live in one.
