First Line Friday

Happy Friday & welcome to the First Line Friday hosted by Reading Is My Superpower! It’s time to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first lines. Today, I’m featuring the first lines of The Mozart Code by Rachel McMillan

The first lines are………..

Simon Barre had left his best revolver back at his family estate near Wilmington, Sussex, along with the Barrington surname. He didn’t miss the surname, but he did miss the expensive steel of his Webley MkVI and the smooth curve of the handle.

About the Book

No matter how you might try to hide in a war to escape your past, it is always close at hand.

Lady Sophia Huntington Villiers is no stranger to intrigue, as her work with Alan Turing’s Bombe Machines at Bletchley Park during the war attests. Now, as part of Simon Barre’s covert team in post-war Vienna, she uses her inimitable charm and code name Starling to infiltrate the world of relics: uncovering vital information that could tilt the stakes of the mounting Cold War. When several influential men charge her with finding the death mask of Mozart, Sophie wonders if there is more than the composer’s legacy at stake and finds herself drawn to potential answers in Prague.

Simon Barrington, the illegitimate heir of one of Sussex’s oldest estates, used the previous war to hide his insecurities about his past. Now, he uses his high breeding to gain access to all four allied quarters of the ruined city in an attempt to slow the fall of the Iron Curtain. He has been in love with Sophie Villiers since the moment he met her, and a marriage of convenience to save Simon’s estate has always kept her close. Until now, when Sophie’s mysterious client in Prague forces him to wonder if her allegiance to him—and their cause—is in question. Torn between his loyalty to his cause and his heart, Simon seeks answers about Sophie only to learn that everything he thought he knew about his involvement in both wars is based on a lie.

Wasn’t Mozart Code stunning?

My first line comes from Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard:
Southeast Alaska. August
Autumn Long had no plans to give up without a fight, even though it might be killing her a little every day.

I’ve had this one my list for too long and need to get to it. Personally, I don’t approve of guns. I think we’d be a lot better off without them. My son is an officer though so I can see his stance on guns for safety but sadly they all too frequently turn up in the wrong hands.

Thank you for a great review.

About the first line, it is the same book as last time, “Before the Big Bang”. I need to move it. Last time I copied the very first line, but it wasn’t part of the content of the book. This time I am copying the first line from the actual content of the book:

“Albania, the land of my birth, is a beautiful country along the coast of the Adriatic with the kindest people but the cruelest past.”

I want to read this book. I love the cover so much.

I’m currently reading Husband Auditions by Angela Ruth Strong. It’s fun!
“We pay the day-use fee and get the indoor pool to ourselves for the moment.”
I hope you have a great weekend! 😀❤️📚

I still need to read it too. It sounds so good. I love the idea of having the pool all to yourself. That hardly ever happens. It would be nice to have the privacy. This does sound like a fun book. Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
