My Review

I am questioning myself why this is the first book I’ve read by this author and why I’ve just been introduced to the Twilight, Texas series.
This book is an emotional overload and I LOVED it!
I have a lot of catching up to do as this is the twelfth book in the series and I want to read them all.
If you haven’t read an author before I believe reading a Christmas book by them is a great way to try them out as I believe author’s make their Christmas books a little more special.
We start out at Christmastime in Twilight,Texas. It’s a beautiful time,cold,twinkling lights,everyone in a festive mood. Care takers of the living manger, friends Joel and Jana make a shocking discovery in the manger. A days old baby with a note from his mother saying she’ll return when she’s able to.
As we get to know Joel and Jana we discover some baggage Jana has that’s she’s kept hidden all her life. As the couple take care of the baby jointly they make discoveries not only about each other but about themselves and how letting go and learning to trust can be accomplished.
Who is the mother of the baby though and why has she abandoned her baby? Will she return to claim her baby? This is an emotional book with the responsibility of the baby along with Joel having such a profound effect on Jana, bringing to the surface memories she thought she had tucked away for good. If you read no other Christmas books this year I suggest you read this one!

My Review

This is a collection of three novella length Christmas stories in one book.
I really enjoy the writing style of this author so these were a true delight to read.
The stories had a common theme of second chance romances. The couples all had a past history but due to some hurts and misunderstandings they went their separate ways.
Being that it’s Christmas time with joy being in the air it seems like the perfect time for a second chance at the possibility of love working out this time.
Some of these couples meeting up again was by mere coincidence but the outcome had the couples talking out the past and putting it behind them.
You can’t always forget what happened in the past but you can forgive what happened.
I recommend these sweet holiday romances.

There is so much going on in this historical novel it’s really hard to know where to start.
Young Emma Swan becomes a sculptress during WW1 in a male dominated field.
The author has written with an authenticity in all of his historical novels and continues the tradition with this one as well.
Emma is a character who is hard to get a handle on, she has relationships with men and she either doesn’t care about them or they don’t care about her. The one man she loved didn’t give her the love and respect she needed so she has soured on men.
Despite how much she has going for her I don’t think she is a truly happy person.
Emma settles into making masks for disfigured soldiers returning from war so they can have a somewhat normal life after the ravages of war.
There is so much betrayal taking place here, from a friend,from men,she herself doing it.
I enjoy reading about flawed characters but I want to see how they have spiritual and mental awareness and growth and it was not shown in this book.
There are also some hard to read about subjects here.
Overall I did enjoy the book.

Excellent,excellent Southern historical fiction.
The 1930’s is not an easy time for anyone but especially the colored folks in Parsons, Georgia.
It’s an unbearably hot summer and folks are just trying to make it through the best they can especially Opal Pruitt, a young black woman working as a housekeeper, coming of age during a very turbulent time.
She lives with her granny , a very religious woman who keeps her in line. I loved granny’s character the most . She is an incredibly strong willed and religious woman that everyone has a tremendous amount of respect for.
The book is so heartwarming yet heartbreaking at the same time.
The black family unit in this book is so strong, very protective of each other. Very religious.
Change is coming though, the Klan is moving in and these innocent people are right in their path though they’ve minded their own business and done nothing to provoke it.
It’s sad to see how many years have passed in time and how the unjust behavior continues to this day, and we call ourselves progressive?
Though this book takes place in the 1930’s these subjects are still relevant today.
It’s a haunting read with it’s tragedies but very realistic . When will we realize this behavior benefits no one and needs to change?
Excellent book I recommend to you!

Barbour has an amazing series of books out called Heroines of WW11, of which this is one.
These are brave women who risk it all for a very important cause during the time period of WW11.
The author writes with a passion for her work rarely seen now a days.
Immaculately researched we find a photojournalist who is bored with her assignments in London as she photographs mothers standing in ration lines. Wanting more and to make a difference she jumps at the chance to go to France.
We can feel the tension in the story as the Nazis are here and they are determined to wipe out every “insignificant person”.
Determined to get to the front line photojournalist, Nellie enlists Jean-Paul Breslau of the French underground but there are many detrimental happenings in the pathway including finding a sweet, hidden special needs child.
Nellie will do everything in her power including giving her life to keep the children safe from the advancing Nazis.
Absolutely amazing book. I have read many WW11 books but none quite like this. This story will stay with me!
I also enjoyed reading the author notes at the back of the book telling which part of the story was based on truth. Fascinating, I’ve learned a lot reading this book.

I absolutely love the American Wonders series by Regina Scott. I have read all of them and I really hope there will be more to come.
The series is centered around amazing American sites set during a historical time period.
The way she describes these sites you can vividly see it in your mind and definitely feel as though you are there with the characters.
With each book I have read in this series I have learned a lot, this time it was about Mount Rainier National Park and the majestic climb to the summit.
This is an adventurous tale and I really enjoyed it.
There is an informational note from the author in the back of the book that I found interesting as well.
Do yourself a favor and read this whole series, it is great!

My Review

I am not sure what I was expecting in this book but it wasn’t this. It is mysterious, with a Victorian era gothic feel to it. I really knew nothing about ballet before reading this now I feel enriched for having read it. You travel in a place while reading in where you are asking yourself if this is realistic or you are in a dream world. Very atmospheric the book has a dark gothic feel to it as though you know something is just around the corner waiting to happen. There are bits of it I just don’t understand, like the red ballet slippers. They are such an important connection ,then when they are stolen they are no longer important? My Review

First of all this is one of the most beautiful covers I have seen in some time. It greatly reminds me of my time spent living in Yuma,Arizona.
What I love about this author’s work is she brings to the forefront people from history we may have never heard of or have been long forgotten.
This story is remarkable and based on the true story of Natalie Curtis.
This is a very intelligent woman, a woman who is classically trained singer and pianist . The joy goes out of her life though when she has a breakdown before she can fulfill a life’s dream.
Travelling with her brother seeking healing she discovers the Native Americans and their haunting melodies, rhythms, and stories.
As she realizes the unjust restrictions on these American indigenous people from singing, dancing, or speaking their own languages all in the name of assimilation.
She appeals to President Roosevelt, he is the only one with the authority to repeal this unjust law. Will he have the interest in this matter or just brush her off?
Fascinating subject matter!

My Review

If you haven’t read your first Christmas book yet this year and even if you have may I recommend this book to you?
This book is a trio of Christmas historical romance novellas which equals so much fun!
Not only is this an author I always look forward to reading and absolutely LOVE her books, they are not to miss but this collection includes hope through devotion,the author’s special holiday recipes and fun facts sprinkled in about nineteenth-century Christmas celebrations.
I know you are an Archer fan, right?
In “An Archer Family Christmas” you’ll get to catch up with the Archer family in a story that once you start it you just won’t be able to stop until you’re done.
Those hunky Archer brothers are so swoon worthy and oh so protective of their women.
Every story in this collection is a true gem and sure to be a Christmas delight to add to your book collection.
