Batter Off Dead (A Country Store Mystery Book 10)
Published February 22,2022
First Chapter
“This kind of weather could make anybody commit murder.” “Abe don’t say that.” I twisted my head to stare at my husband of six weeks, seated in the camp chair next to mine in Juniper Park, waiting for the weekly Friday night South Lick fireworks.
Synopsis
In South Lick, Indiana, fine foods and classic cookware can be found at Robbie Jordan’s Pans ’N Pancakes. Unfortunately, her country store also seems to stock up on murder . . .
Robbie and her new husband Abe O’Neill are enjoying a summer evening in the park with fellow townsfolk excited for some Friday night fireworks. In attendance are senior residents from Jupiter Springs Assisted Living including Roy Bird, father to South Lick’s very own Police Lieutenant Buck Bird. Despite his blindness, Roy is a member of his group home’s knitting circle, spending quality time with some lovely ladies.
But when the lightshow ends, one of the knitters who sat with Roy is found dead, a puncture wound in her neck. The poor woman’s death echoes that of Buck’s mother and Roy’s wife—an unsolved homicide. To help find the killer, Robbie’s going to have to untangle the knotty relationships deep in the victim’s past . . .

What I read last week
When Delaney Broward finds her best friend stabbed to death a decade after her brother suffered the same fate, she must confront her painful past in order unmask a killer who isn’t done yet.
How can this be happening again?
Delaney Broward has spent the last ten years rebuilding her life after finding her brother brutally stabbed to death in his art studio, leaving her without a single living family member. His death even took away her boyfriend, Hunter Nash, who was convicted of the murder. Convinced it’s too dangerous to trust her heart to anyone again, Delaney lives alone. She pours herself into her frame shop in the historic art district in San Antonio. She doesn’t have the husband and children she once dreamed of, but her heart is safe.
Until she walks into her best friend Ellie’s shop and finds she has suffered the same fate. Once again Delaney’s life is shattered by violence, tragedy, and loss.
Hunter Nash leaves prison a free man that same day. He’s determined to prove his innocence, win Delaney back, and restore her faith in God.
Delaney’s mission is to bring Ellie’s murder to justice while protecting her heart. They forge an uneasy alliance, both certain the truth will win out. Both are willing to accept the outcome—if they survive.
This sweeping novel from the New York Times bestselling author of A Long Petal of the Sea tells the epic story of Violeta del Valle, a woman whose life spans one hundred years and bears witness to the greatest upheavals of the twentieth century.
Violeta comes into the world on a stormy day in 1920, the first girl in a family of five boisterous sons. From the start, her life will be marked by extraordinary events, for the ripples of the Great War are still being felt, even as the Spanish flu arrives on the shores of her South American homeland almost at the moment of her birth.
Through her father’s prescience, the family will come through that crisis unscathed, only to face a new one as the Great Depression transforms the genteel city life she has known. Her family loses all and is forced to retreat to a wild and beautiful but remote part of the country. There, she will come of age, and her first suitor will come calling. . . .
She tells her story in the form of a letter to someone she loves above all others, recounting devastating heartbreak and passionate affairs, times of both poverty and wealth, terrible loss and immense joy. Her life will be shaped by some of the most important events of history: the fight for women’s rights, the rise and fall of tyrants, and, ultimately, not one but two pandemics.
Told through the eyes of a woman whose unforgettable passion, determination, and sense of humor will carry her through a lifetime of upheaval, Isabel Allende once more brings us an epic that is both fiercely inspiring and deeply emotional.
She came in search of the family she’d always wanted—and found the kind of love she’d never dared to imagine.
When Katelyn Loveland’s car veered off a winding Appalachian Mountain road, she thought she was done for. That is until Cooper Robinson, local sheriff’s deputy, came to her rescue. And though Katie narrowly escaped her brush with death, she still fell. Hard.
She wasn’t the only one. But soon Cooper learns that the woman he’s more attracted to than any he’s ever met is his brother’s new girlfriend—and therefore unquestionably off limits. Yet, despite his best efforts, Cooper and Katie can’t seem to avoid running into each other. Or ignore the undeniable chemistry between them.
As they grow closer, Katie shares the secrets of her past and the real reason she moved to their small North Carolina town. She also wins over Cooper’s welcoming and bighearted family. But they don’t know that her feelings for Cooper keep growing—all while she’s dating his brother. Soon the stakes of their emotional connection become higher than either of them could have imagined. Katie stands to lose the first family she’s ever had, and a scandal could doom Cooper’s campaign for sheriff’s office. Suddenly they find themselves on the edge of another precipice—and they’re forced to make a decision that could change their lives forever.
Melanie Travis and her pedigree poodles are back on the case in an adorably giftable, Easter-themed hardcover by award-winning author Laurien Berenson!
Melanie Travis is gifted at raising prize-winning Standard Poodles, not standing in as the Easter Bunny. But when March in Connecticut brings daffodils and dead bodies, she’ll need to hop into action–and fast…
Aunt Rose already has a strike against her for not being too fond of dogs–or Aunt Peg. But Melanie still agrees to organize Easter festivities at Gallagher House, the new women’s shelter opened by the stern former nun, even if it takes all the jellybeans in Greenwich to sweeten the arrangement. No sooner does Melanie arrive to dye multicolor eggs and stuff baskets, than she learns devastating news about Beatrice Gallagher, the respected benefactor of the estate. Beatrice has fallen to her death, and the circumstances are shocking.
No one can say why or how charitable Beatrice got pushed into an early grave. Yet for a supposedly warm and generous philanthropist, rumors have her pinned as an overbearing manipulator who used money to control the unfortunate few trapped in her inner circle. Facing an uncertain future as danger lurks around Gallagher House, Melanie and Aunt Rose must tolerate each other’s company long enough to discover the truth about Beatrice’s true nature and identify a vengeful killer–before another person’s idyllic spring break becomes a serious nightmare…
When her dreams of young love were cruelly shattered, Nerissa Morgan found it hard to move on. Now, at forty-three, everyone around her is enjoying life while she’s just going through the motions. With her boss retiring and rumours of a new doctor coming in to take over the practice she manages, change is coming, whether she’s ready for it or not.
Following the death of his beloved wife, Tom Nelson buried himself in work at his busy inner-London GP practice. When his teenage children find themselves in trouble at school, he realises he’s completely lost touch with them. Desperate to reconnect before it’s too late, he whisks his family away to the pretty seaside village of Mermaids Point determined to make a fresh start.
But all is not as idyllic as it seems. With his predecessor reluctant to let go of the reins and the children as distant as ever, the last thing Tom needs is an undeniable attraction to the woman he unexpectedly finds himself sharing a roof with…

I have been reading the author’s books right from the start and always look forward to reading every one of her books. This suspense, as many of her books takes place where Kelly knows the area the best. Texas. Texas has a lot going on and makes for action filled reading. Delany Broward’s brother was murdered a decade ago and her boyfriend Hunter Nash was blamed and jailed for this despite his plea of not guilty. Hunter finally walks out of jail a free man, very soon after this her best friend is found dead in the same manner as her brother. Coincidence? Proof of guilt? What would you think? Delaney is broken, she’s lost a lot. Her parents, her grandparents, her brother, her best friend. How much more can a person take. Through her tragedies she’s lost her belief in God and lives with bitterness. Hunter comes out of jail still claiming his innocence and with a strong conviction. He’s found God in prison, he believes now and will do everything in his power to make Delaney a believer again. He’s working so hard at getting his life back on track and showing Delaney he is a worthwhile person, he has never stopped loving her. He never counted on being blindsided by being a murder suspect again. Slow burn romantic suspense done right. It will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat to an ending you won’t see coming. #TrustMe #NetGalley

Having wanted to visit Alaska for quite a while this book just made my desire to go there even stronger. The descriptions in Sunrise are absolutely scrumptious, from the extreme cold and deep snow to the danger and protecting yourself from the elements. The wildlife would be amazing to see providing you don’t put yourself in any danger doing so. It’s a harsh unforgiving area, you can not have a misstep. So much intrigued me about this book as I was reading. There is lots of adventure, holding your breath wondering what’s going to happen next times. This is Christian fiction that has captivated me and I can’t wait to see what’s next because we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger here.Wonderful plot and well thought out characters.

This book holds a special place in my heart. You see, an ancestor of mine sailed from Galway when she was sixteen years old without her family. I don’t know the circumstances of the traveling . By the time I had thought of asking my grandmother about our Irish ancestry she had passed, an opportunity passed never to be retrieved. I absolutely loved reading about this book taking place in Galway. The book has such an authenticity to it. I have such an understanding of it now and truly feel as though I visited Ireland in the 1920’s. The spoken Irish language, the descriptions of the foods, the places they went, the day to day life, the flooding. It all made the book come alive for me. It was so interesting reading the legend of the Claddagh ring and how the jewelry shop has been in the same family for so many generations. I need one of these gorgeous rings. Thank you to the author for writing such a charming book. I very much enjoyed it! #TheLadyofGalwayManor #NetGalley.

GoodReads Synopsis
In 1920, Annabeth De Lacy’s father is appointed landlord of Galway Parish in Ireland. Bored without all the trappings of the British Court, Annabeth convinces her father to arrange an apprenticeship for her with the Jennings family–descendants of the creator of the famed Claddagh Ring.
Stephen Jennings longs to do anything other than run his family’s jewelry shop. Having had his heart broken, he no longer believes in love and is weary of peddling the ÒliesÓ the Claddagh Ring promises.
Meanwhile, as the war for Irish independence gains strength, many locals resent the De Lacys and decide to take things into their own hands to display their displeasure. As events take a dangerous turn for Annabeth and her family, she and Stephen begin to see that perhaps the “other side” isn’t quite as barbaric and uncultured as they’d been led to believe–and that the bonds of friendship, love, and loyalty are only made stronger when put through the refiner’s fire.
Travel to the Emerald Isle for another poignant and romantic story from the enchanted pen of Jennifer Deibel.
The Claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring which represents love, loyalty, and friendship (the hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty). The design and customs associated with it originated in the Irish fishing village of the same name in Galway. The ring, as currently known, was first produced in the 17th century. en.wikipedia.org

Does this publish in April? Yes! Did I wait to read it? NO WAY! Oh my!!!!!!! You’ve read Jamie Jo Wright books before but absolutely nothing like this! This is a book taking place in the 1930’s and in modern times and how they relate to each other is slowly revealed to us. The author has simply topped herself in this one! From when I first read the synopsis of this one I knew it was the book for me. I simply couldn’t wait to read it, devoured it when I did and talked about it to EVERYONE, telling them they MUST read it when it releases! They’ll probably hide when they see me coming as I can’t stop talking about it. This book is so atmospheric and has a gothic feel to it. I felt shivers go through me as I was reading it. Not to give anything away but imagine eerie whispers in the dark,a broken porcelain doll’s face, feeling a presence in the woods and an unsolved murder. Do you want to read this yet? #TheSoulsofLostLake #NetGalley.

Endless Mercy is the second book in the Treasures of Nome series. I am really enjoying this series. The authors separately write wonderful books and together they are just dynamic! Life is hard in Nome,Alaska for three red-headed sisters whose mother has died recently, believe their father has died and live with a grandfather who has health problems. They have one thing going for them, their musical talent which they have received from their beautiful mother. Playing and singing a few nights a week brings them money to survive. This is the youngest sister Madysen’s story. She does seem a bit naive for 21 but she is a sweetheart, don’t let that fool you though. All of the Powell sisters have the gumption and fierceness that goes along with being a red-head and family first and foremost always wins out. Madysen loves her family, her music, her Lord and her sheep. Raising them isn’t easy and it can get down right messy but it brings in some much needed cash with the cheese and milk from these animals. Will her head be turned by a make it big producer who promises her marriage and wealth from her singing if she’ll just leave Nome? Will she be able to leave her family behind and the attentions from someone she sees as genuine after her affections? The book is so aptly named. Wonderful life lessons in this book. Though it’s not always easy to do we should give endless mercy as we ask for the same. Love this series. I recommend you read it in order.
