Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.
My favorite shoes are still my Converse . I have many pairs in many colors, low tops and high tops and even a pair of wine colored velvet high top ones. They’ve taken me to casual places , for walks, to appointments, the library and everywhere in between.

I have an old pair of Brooks running shoes that I bought in Maine one year when I’d left my previous pair behind at a hotel. I wore them and wore them – when one got a hole in the toe I tried sewing it but my daughter had some rubber stuff and I have a nice rubber heart over the hole. I still wear them but alternate with a now equally battered pair. My next big expenditure will be some new Brooks.

I hear you there, I actually have an old pair myself, that I wear walking. There’s just something about an old pair of broken in shoes that make them so hard to just pitch. That’s great she was able to extend the life of the shoes for you. I don’t blame you for wanting another pair when the time comes. I want all the comfort I can get for my feet as well.

I remember being really into the black converse low-tops. Funny to think that there was a time where I actually cared about fashion, whereas nowadays I just throw myself into whatever is functional. I think this has to do with me not being as concerned about status. Not that fashion is reserved for people who chase status but for me personally as soon as my self-esteem grew I really stopped caring about following fashion trends.

I’m all for comfort. My style has evolved as well over the years. We seem to care less about trying to impress others and take comfort in the knowledge it’s okay to just be happy with ourself the way we are. And it’s perfectly fine.
