So today after doing my morning chores I figured I’d relax in bed a bit and read. I have a bed pillow with arms and it’s very comfortable, I lean it against my headboard and sit up and read. My cat Iris jumps up and lays on top of the headboard. Today she did so while I was reading and she’s up there jumping around and I’m wondering what the heck is going on but I didn’t look because I was too engrossed in my book. So she jumps/falls down off the headboard scratching my neck and tried to go behind the bookcase in my room but doesn’t fit. I pull her out to see what’s going on and she has a mouse in her mouth. I’m thinking this mouse climbed up a cord I have next to the bed that goes from the ceiling to the floor. It has fairy lights on it. She runs off with said mouse in her mouth let’s it go and plays with it a bit then it comes to its senses and scampers off across my barefoot and into my walk-in closet. Less than an hour later I’m in my walk-in closet to get clothes for the day and I see a bird on the window sill inside my walk-in closet. I have my walk-in closet window open slightly for air and it was enough for said bird to land on the outside window sill and get inside. My cat Charlie was having a ball chasing the bird around my bedroom and walk-in closet so he was put in the bathroom so he wouldn’t hurt the poor little bird. I finally caught the bird and released it outside unharmed. We’ve had a snake in our house twice as well. Thank goodness not in the bedroom though. By the way did I tell.you I lived in the country? π

This is the type of bird that was in the house, a Wren.

I live in a city, Dallas, in Texas, but we still have quite a bit of nature including squirrels, mice, rats, rabbits, various birds, owls, pelicans, lizzards, snakes, and coyotes. Lots of coyotes. Our dog Rollo has killed two rabbits but I’ve saved the life of countless rabbits by screaming “drop Rollo” whenever I’ve seen him carry a rabbit in his mouth (two times it was too late). I’ve also seen neighborhood cats carrying mice and rabbits. We had a rat snake in our bathroom. So even cities have wildlife.

People take up so much space that I’m not surprised to hear there are so many types of animals in your city. We also had coyotes when we lived in Yuma, Arizona. Pelicans, now that’s a surprise to hear. Glad to hear you were able to save so many of the rabbits Rollo encountered and I’d say he’s just doing what’s instinctive to him.

Yes you are right, it is just his instinct, but it was sad when I did not make it on time. On several occasions I heard the rabbit scream, and I ran out in the backyard and screamed “drop Rollo”, he did, and the rabbit ran away. But I was not quick enough twice. I agree about the Pelicans but we see them quite a bit. Dallas is far from the ocean, but we have some lakes nearby.

I hear you. For the most part I really enjoy living in the country. I forgot to mention the part where we’ve had bats in the attic multiple times as well. π¦

Aren’t they the greatest though? Now my kids have me getting them for them as well. Ah, but you can’t beat comfort. Of course, living in the country, we have the fabulous smell of manure wafting down to us multiple times a year as well.

I was a farm girl once, and I feel ya’. LOL My grandma always called it “fresh air.” LOL

The older generation loved their “fresh air” sleeping with the window cracked even in the winter.

I’ve had a mouse in the house, but that’s it. Lucky cat, he must have been thrilled.

Our cat was quite happy. It’s been at least a year since we’ve had one. Though it’s hot it probably came in because it’s getting cooler in the evenings.
