ABOUT THE BOOK

’TIS THE SEASON FOR FUDGE—AND SLEUTHING

Carol is looking forward to finishing plans for the Mackinac Island Senior Center Christmas Ball. But when she arrives at the center, she finds the door jimmied open and a dead man inside. The victim is a local senior who seems to have been sleeping in the center at night—but why? Although she promises Officer Rex Manning not to involve her book club in solving the mystery, Carol finds a way to fudge around that. Rallying her troop of silver-haired sleuths—and with some support from Ally in between her batches of Christmas fudge — Carol sets out to discover which grinch tried to steal this Christmas. All she wants from Santa is to get this case wrapped up with a bow!

MY THOUGHTS

This is a novella length book. It’s not the delicious fudge keeping our attention in this edition of the Candy-Coated Mystery series, though mentioned a few times, It’s the break in at the senior center with one of the seniors being found deceased.

Mackinac Island has the snow flying and the snowmobiles screeching around as we see senior Carol Tunisian’s point of view coming to life instead of fudge shop and hotel owner Allie McMurphy.

When Carol finds a body in the senior community center all she wants is to reopen the center for the holiday festivities, but the police say no go because it’s a crime scene. With the police being too slow for her taste she takes matters into her own hands to get this crime solved. Carol rousts up the other seniors on the island, but they may just be putting themselves in harm’s way to get this thing solved.

Get ready for an adventure of threatening late night threatening phone calls and hushed warnings. Will Carol be able to solve the crime before any more harm comes to her or her friends? A great addition to the series that had me guessing until the end.

ABOUT THE BOOK

After a summer celebration on Michigan’s Mackinac Island ends in murder, hotel and fudge shop owner Allie McMurphy puts on her sleuthing hat . . .

THERE’S NO SUGARCOATING A KILLER’S SCHEME

During the Midsummer Night’s Festival, Allie decides to take her bichonpoo, Mal, home to spare her furry little ears from the sounds of fireworks. But on her way back, Allie spots a body in the lake. Just minutes ago, Winona Higer was crowning the event’s Queen—could the competition have really been that deadly?

While she ponders the mystery the next morning, Allie prepares her favorite dark chocolate cherry fudge recipe. But she’s soon recruited to sub for the late Winona and serve as parade float judge, among other duties. As she hears rumors and gossip, and learns of mean pranks and threatening notes, her instincts kick in—despite her boyfriend the cop’s disapproval. Now, between managing a new hire and keeping the tourists filled with fudge, she’s dealing with a case that’s boiling over . . .

MY THOUGHTS

Mackinac Island is famous for its fudge and the tourists in the summer make it a little hard for the locals to get around.

Hotel and fudge shop owner Allie McMurphy is always busy doing fudge demonstrations and giving out chunks of that fudge to drum up business. That July evening, when she was set on watching the Midsummer Night’s Festival, she had to take her little dog home first to protect his ears from the fireworks.

A relaxing evening was not to be had by this amateur sleuth though as she sees a body floating in the water. There’s the local crowning of the queen and a parade with floats but not everyone is in agreement of who should have been the queen. Could some sour grapes have entered into this deadly competition?

A cozy mystery with animals and a bakery or fudge shop? I’m all in. Despite keeping the tourists distracted by the sticky sweet fudge she’s making Allie and her boyfriend the cop is working the case from every angle.

This charming cozy has a fudge or baked goods recipe after every chapter. This is another cozy series that I’ve read some but not all of the books in it and will be needing a catch up.

There are so many delicious cozy mysteries awaiting my reading, now to find the time. I enjoy the recipes in them too. I’ve never tried dark chocolate cherry fudge but I’ll get it’s delicious. I do enjoy cherry ice cream. 🍨🍒🍒
